My husband, sister-in-law and myself had dinner here on Christmas Day because our family went to Morro Bay that week to also celebrate our grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary. Obviously Christmas Day has limited choices, and this was one of the only open establishments. The service was alright, but the food wasn’t great. Ordinarily I don’t complain about food I don’t like because I don’t like to leave bad reviews, but due to the response my husband received, I feel like I had no choice(which I will get to later). I ordered the calamari strips, and I’m not going to lie, they looked like Costco calamari strips. They tasted alright, but definitely not worth the hefty price, and especially with it being Christmas day, the quality of the food should have been better. My husband ordered the scallops, which were deep fried(NOT how scallops are to be cooked), and they were not good quality scallops. We especially noticed that later on, since my husband ended up getting violently ill with food poisoning. So instead of looking back on this experience with fond memories, we now remember it as the place where Conner got sick. Thankfully, the manager was able to comp the meal for us, which would have been the end of it. My husband wrote a negative review on their Facebook page, and like I said, that would have been the end of this. Except, we JUST received a nasty response back from Off the Hook telling my husband how he is «the worst customer ever», «must do this to every restaurant» he goes to, and how he is «a grinch a-hole.» I wish I was kidding. I began looking through the other reviews on the Facebook page and realized that this RUDE, and INSULTING manner of responding to bad reviews is a very common occurrance with this establishment. Even if we had not had a bad food experience resulting in my husband being sick, which we did on CHRISTMASDAY, I wouldn’t come here again just because of the awful way they respond to bad reviews, rather than try to fix THEIRPROBLEMS.

I can not understand all the poor reviews. My family and I eat here often… pretty much any time we don’t feel like driving to SLO for sushi and/or we have family in tow who won’t eat sushi. Their sushi is EXCELLENT, fresh, and easily the best in Morro Bay(sorry, Haradas). I enjoy the extra touch of orchids placed upon the plates of some of their rolls, as well. As for their non sushi dinner items, their Crab Mac ‘n Cheese is crazy good. My mom always gets the Halibut with Potato Croquettes and raves about it. I also love their seared Ahi salad which has spears of mango. Their fish ‘n chips are quite good, but I wouldn’t say the best locally. Still, why would you go to a place like this for fish ‘n chips? The service is friendly and prompt. We have eaten here probably 15 times since we discovered it, and we’ve never been disappointed. If we had the means, I would eat here nightly! My only complaint is the price, but you do get what you pay for!

Our waitress was sweet, but not very informative and missing for most of the meal, except to deliver our meals, which were not good. My filet was over-cooked. The fried mashed potato side was bland. My husband ordered the special, which they failed to mention that it was deep fried(super crispy). My child’s mac & cheese was delish! We sat on the patio and the people next to us had 2 labs. My daughter bumped the chair slightly and one of the dogs flipped out. No one asked the people to leave nor did they move them to the other side of the patio. We will never eat there again. $ 118 wasted. I would give this a negative rating if I could.

Came into town for a golf tournament and my buddy was wanting some seafood. We just happened on this place which has a great location right on the water. We sat(alone on a Friday night) at the sushi bar. The tables along the window were full but several others empty. Anyway we had sashimi, sushi, crab cakes, halibut, and the Sriracha burger. Sushi was good, sashimi was good. Crab cakes were just ok, nothing special. Halibut was a little over cooked, and my burger was fantastic. Turn out the guy serving us at the bar is the head chef. I tried multiple time to engage him in conversation, but he was having none of it. Buddy, if patrons come into your place, order that much food for 2 people and want to chat a little, then you need to do it. I think he was more interested in his girlfriend or wife that looked half his age and their kid sitting at the end of the bar. All in all the food was decent. The sushi is very expensive, and I make way better crab cakes, but I would totally go back for the burger, and the beer battered fries were money.

Stopped here last night for dinner during our first visit it to Morro Bay. It was our last choice based on the reviews but the only place that could accommodate a party of 6 on a Saturday night. The gyoza was scrumptious. I had crab cakes which were also excellent. My husband’s seafood pasta was really tasteless though. The service was excellent and the location can’t be beat. My daughter Millie thought her mac n cheese was«too strong» — definitely had a sharp flavor for a kid’s dish(I liked it though!) Overall I think it is a little overpriced though for what you get. We will likely check out a different restaurant on our next visit to Morro Bay.

We had a really great experience during our first visit to this restaurant. My wife and I had just walked out of Harada due to poor service, a first ever for us, and were hoping to find some decent sushi here. The super friendly staff made us feel very welcome right from the start, and did a great job the entire time. My wife ordered spicy gyoza with a yummy Wasabi cream sauce and some sort of roll that had snow crab, salmon, and a thinly sliced lemon ring on top, both were really good. I had a sriracha burger because it looked good on the menu, and I wasn’t disappointed. Even the grilled cheese they brought for my son was good quality, and the beer battered fries were delicious. We will definitely be coming back here next time we’re in Morro Bay.

We popped in for a drink. After speaking with the sushi chef we ordered the chef’s assortment. The FRESH wasabi was a treat. We appreciated the special touch from Sushi Chef Jeff and assistant Derrick. Looking forward to our next visit.

Great view from the dining room and incredibly friendly staff. I’ve eaten here twice now and have been disappointed both times. The first experience was decent food, friendly service, but it took a hour and a half to get our food(food was just okay). I ordered albacore tataki and a shrimp louie salad to go. The tataki was fishy and didn’t taste fresh. I ended up throwing it away. The shrimp louie salad looked like something you could pick up a gas station. The menu stated that the shrimp louie salad would have lettuce, shrimp, avocado, hard boiled egg, onion, tomato, and a garlic crostini. What I actually got was brown lettuce, no avocado, no egg, no crostini. I ate the shrimp and threw away the rest. I will not be giving Off the Hook a third try.

OUTSTANDING! First time here for me and my husband. The owner is adorably sweet. The customer service is amazing. We came in for lunch and bloody marys. Everything was perfect! Husband had the wicked hawaii tuna roll. He said it’s the best he’s ever had. I highly recommend this place.

We visited the restaurant today, when we arrive we noticed the restaurant was quite warm. The restaurant manager was fixing two window shades that had broken. We moved to a table near the entrance, I continued to observe the manager who continued to work on the broken shades. The shades were located right next to a couple seated for dinner. I thought they could have done a better job by relocating them. That didn’t happen. I ordered a glass of wine, I was given ¼ of a cup for a 9.00 charge. The dinner rolls we ordered were very dry and we sent them back. My salad and my husbands Mac and cheese were just ok. I was disappointed when we left. We will not be coming back.

I used to like this restaurant, but it was years ago that their food was good. Walked in tonight to place an order to go for some clam chowder bread bowls for my husband and myself. Was thinking about adding another item and didn’t see any visible menus out. Was standing there for a couple minutes without any acknowledgment from the staff. A couple came in behind me and this blonde dude comes out of the kitchen and asks how many he can sit, totally ignoring me. He goes to seat them when a woman comes out from the kitchen and asks«here for an order to go?» I said yes and asked to look at a menu. With a hint of attitude she asks«a menu?» and hands it to me from the desk, as if she’s annoyed. The place hardly had any patrons, so I’m not sure what their staffs problem is. Their clam chowder(the only thing on the menu thats actually good) is my favorite in the area, but I set the menu on the desk and left after that(along with the couple that had come in after me. They probably left after seeing the ridiculous price they charge for their crap food) and went elsewhere as I didn’t feel like having my food made and served with attitude.

We ate here on Christmas day — one of the only restaurants open — and my food was a $ 23 plate of fried mess, because the only thing on the combo seafood plate listed as fried was the fish, and the fish tasted odd and had a «squeaky» mouth-feel to it. The fried Scallops were so wet and mushy with oil that it rendered them inedible. The battered fries were good. The fried shrimp was tasty although not what I expected, I only ended up eating the 2 shrimp and a handful of fries. My wife’s «Panko breaded calamari«looked and tasted like the Kirkland Signature one from Costco. Bad expensive food, $ 60 for two adults and a a kid who ate a side salad. At least the waitress was nice. My family will be avoiding this place on the future.

I was gonna give one star for this place but I’m a softy. To be honest, I thought it would be better even if the reviews showed that it wasn’t the fav restaurant for people around here. However, not only the food was cooked long time before we ever decided to have dinner out but also the service wasn’t too professional. If you are coming to morro bay either for leisure or work trust the reviews and go to places like the galley.

Another 5 start review for this place! By the time I was in my seat on the beautiful pet friendly patio the waitress brought out a bowl of water and a milk bone for my dog. They are by far the most pet friendly place I’ve eaten at ever. My meal started with a bowl of clam chowder, a must — it’s delicious! I enjoyed the special of Alaskan halibut fish and chips, it was perfection. Finished off with the chocolate chip cheese cake. My waitress was an amazing young lady(Tanisha) she was so sweet and really seemed like she enjoyed working at this restaurant. Even though this place is a bit on the expressive side it is a place I will visit ever time I am in this amazing little town.

We found ourselves in Morro Bay, very hungry, after a day of exploring at Montana de Oro State Park. We stumbled upon this place, which seemed like«our» kind of restaurant. The sushi chef had the night off, so I won’t be reviewing the sushi bar. We sat inside, at a booth with a nice view of Morro Rock. Hubby and I both had the Mixed Fish and Chips, a generous portion of tempura-battered goodness from the sea(fish, scallops, shrimp, oysters) atop a mound of belgian-style fries, served with lemon wedges, tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, and ketchup. We were both very happy with our fish and chips. We shared a crème brûlée for dessert, which was totally en pointe. The servers were very attentive and friendly, and we would certainly return here next time we are in Morro Bay. Hopefully then, the sushi bar will be open!

The view at this, and neighbouring restaurants is spectacular and ideal for a romantic dinner. The service was very good, all very friendly and helpful, even towards the end of their advertised hours(people were still arriving past that time). We had the Gyozas, Macadamia Halibut and the Red Snapper, with the Carrot Cake and crème brûlée for dessert. The gyozas were good, the salad with a satay dressing and the wasabi mayo made the dish the star of the meal. Neither of our main courses were spectacular. That’s not to say they weren’t nice, but the red snapper was perhaps a little over-cooked and a bit dry and tasteless, while the macadamia nuts could have been roasted further to bring out some more flavour. The carrot cake was huge, and very tasty. The butter cream icing was very nice too. The crème brûlée had probably been sitting around(or in the fridge) for a while, because the top, although ‘burnt’ was not crispy at all. It tasted nice but if they’d sprinkled some more sugar on top and burnt it again it would have been even nicer.

Well, the waitress was fine. She did her job well. She told us they had no sushi today. Bummer, but we are willing to eat other food. We should hAve walked out when we first smelled how insanely FISHY it was as soon as we entered. we started to wonder if we were going to eat fosh or if the fish was about to eat US with how gross it smelled. We ate there anyway because most of the other restaurants in town were closed early. Plus we were wanting some sushi but we said«oh well we will settle» once they said they were all out of sushi. My mate broke out red and in hives after he ordered the prawn cocktail and seafood pasta. He hasn’t had a hive reaction since 1996. Their seafood is not fresh despite being right on the bay with a great view of the big old Morro rock. Also, they had the overhead fan turned up full blast making your hair whip around and the dirty fishy air circulate heavily not to mention your hot food gets cold in seconds with that damned fan! We were not a fan of the fan! I hate complaining but man this place should be a joke restaurant where you only take annoying in laws or criminals who stile your prized bicycle. Only those you dislike should eat this fish flavored old sea trash! Their mascot should be a fat old mermaid who barks at you and crushes beer cans on her head because that would prepare you for Off The Hook’s dining experience. Check my clam chowder in a bread bowl pic from here… Gross but lots of it so you won’t go hungry just sick! Gordon Ramsay needs to visit this place or atleast the health department!

So, 4 stars is high but I plan on coming back to try more. For what limited experience I have here, every thing was great. The sushi was great. So fresh and it just dissolved in my mouth, especially the albacore. Also tried the Yellowtail which was just as good. Cousin got the clam chowder which I tasted and was really good(He also liked it). I will be back to review more.

We stumbled into this restaurant after trying to find the other highly recommended Unilocal restaurants. This place is so awesome. Something for everyone and everyone was very happy with their selection. I ordered the Blackened Salmon with lemon caper sauce special and was so pleased. The Salmon was buttery, the asparagus tasty and serving size just right. The ambiance is very nice and casual. Cool light fixtures and water and Morro rock view perfect.

Amazing sushi and great service! Chefs Nogi and Jeff took care of our crazy party of six at the bar and did us right! Maridee and her staff did an amazing job at making everyone feel comfortable and taking care of our group. My only complaint is that I didn’t have a bigger stomach :) Great job guys and we’ll definitely be back again soon!
