Great store, nice and friendly staff. They have some out of the ordinary books as well as best sellers, etc. I would like to see a bigger selection in Reiki books there but I was very happy with the yoga selection of books that they had.

Adorable. Charming. Well stocked. Friendly service. Free gift wrapping. Accepts credit cards. What’s not to love? We strolled in here and stayed for about 1.5 hours. They have a plethora of books and gift items, and the easy pace of no crowds, and relaxed attendants, truly make for a peaceful browsing experience. It’s a medium-sized bookstore in the heart of Mystic, and it’s just a great place to visit whether you’re a tourist or a local.

A great little bookshop has become a rarity these days. But luckily, Bank Square has managed to hold on. There is nothing like loosing yourself in the aisles of a bookstore(just not the same as clicking through Amazon). The shelves are well curated with a broad range of books, and the staff does a stellar job at getting books in front of your face that you may otherwise miss. The kids section is especially well stocked with all kinds of quirky titles. We drive an hour just so we can poke around in the shop a couple times a month. So show this independent bookstore some love and money! We need them to stick around.

Really excellent local bookstore with a huge selection. Minus 1 star because of the experience I had today. I’ve been a repeat customer of Bank Square Books for a few years now and have never experienced anything less than the best customer service. Today, after purchasing $ 100+ of books and journals, the woman at the cash register didn’t even bother to ask me if I found everything I was looking for, or even make any conversation. She arched her eyebrow at the total amount for my purchase and said«Wow, look at all the nice things YOU bought!». What am I, twelve? I’ll likely return but I feel like maybe the staff could be a little more friendly.

Definitely a great independent book store! It’s deceptively large & they have a great selection. Bank Square is neatly organized & has lots of local flavor books. I take my 3 year old here to check out their children’s selection & haven’t been disappointed. Plus they seem to always have some good books on sale. Staff are helpful & it’s great to know your purchase is helping the local economy instead of a large chain.

One of the few remaining locally owned independent bookstores with an excellent selection and very helpful staff.

A very bright, well-stocked independent bookstore gets our vote and thanks for fostering reading in Mystic. The store carries a supply of new books in all the usual categories including some nifty«staff picks» that showcase a diverse collection of tastes. This is not a discount store; the prices are retail for the most part, hardbacks and paperbacks. The staff is pleasant, and there’s room to move around easily. Wish it had a few more sitting areas, however, and the addition of some used books might bring in more customers. But that’s not what this bookstore is, so no points off. We liked it and think it’s an asset to this area.

Browsed, mainly. Nice quiet atmosphere. Welcome change from the overwhelming clutter of the big chains. Pleasant staff looks like they’ve actually read a book that wasn’t about angsty vampires or teen wizards.

I’ve never seen a bookstore with so many beautiful books! I love bookstores and I generally take quite a bit of time to pore over the shelves and find a book that looks good to me. I pick it up, see if it feels good in my hands, read a few lines, see if it draws me in, and only then do I consider buying it. Usually 98% of the books in a store don’t even make it past the first test, but in this amazing amazing bookstore, every book was so beautiful, I wanted to pick them all up and discover what was inside. Also, this bookstore is much bigger than you would think from the outside. Once you wind through the fiction section, there are plenty of fabulous secrets hidden around the corner. I spent the most time looking at the travel and cooking sections(no surprise) and almost bought a beautiful(but expensive) cookbook that was recommended to me but I haven’t seen anywhere else! The rack of journals near the window was delightful because I love journals. I had to tear myself away. I didn’t even dive into the several sections of beautiful greeting cards because I could have spent another hour or two looking at those which would have certainly annoyed my boyfriend(or anyone). One last thing– they have book signings. When we wandered in, there were about 5 different authors sitting behind a table full of their children’s books; A pleasant surprise. So basically, a beautiful array of things I love: books, journals, and cards in an independently owned store on a charming street.
