Blue Moon Beach Grill

There was a bit of a wait, which only speaks to the (well-​deserved) popularity of this spot. The owner & server more than made up for it with excellently accommodating service and the best food we’ve had on the OBX. We can’t recommend this place highly enough!

Good beach bar, right atmosphere and the food was great. I do wish the staff member had been a bit more attentive with are orders. Crab cake sandwich was the way to go!

My Moms idea to eat here. We had to get there right before it opened so we didn’t have to wait in line for long.
It’s gorgeous inside. A huge fully stocked bar with loads of seating. Easy beach U theme without the overload of beating you over the head that they are a seafood spot at the beach.
The hostesses were sweet and efficient and handled the crowd at the doors easily and kindly. The servers super helpful.
Great specials of the day. The standard menu is off the chain. My moms favorite is their crab cake. One of the best ever tasted. Loads of crabmeat and very little filler. We are crab cake snobs so this is saying a lot.
Everything we put in our mouths from the salads and soups to the main courses was eye roll into the back of your head fantastic. It’s the first time I’ve eaten here but it is far from my last time. I can’t wait to come back for another visit to Nags Head this is the first place I’m eating!

Service is always on point. The food is stellar and extremely well priced! The bar drinks are delicious ! I’ve never had a bad experience ever! Only disappointing statement I have is when I try to get in and they are full and the wait is super long. But that’s mega props to them! They have a good thing going and Im stoked for them. We were there about a week ago and the service food and everything was so awesome we bought a round of beers for the kitchen staff. I hope they enjoyed them because they deserved it. Kudos to all. I recommend the fish tacos I get them every time. Can’t go wrong with anything. But I suggest get there early or call ahead to see what the wait is like.

I recently came for lunch, although I’ve been here many times before when I used to live on the OBX. This time we got very lucky because there wasn’t much of a wait but we got the option to sit at the bar with no wait and we took it. Anna was serving at the bar and she was very friendly and attentive. My boyfriend got the pulled pork sandwich which was juicy and plentiful! I had the not a shrimp «burger» and it was awesome!!! They had some delicious beers on tap, which are always changing but I enjoyed the cucumber margarita special cocktail. It inspired me to go home & make my own. This place never lets you down.

First night here and just had to check it out after all the great reviews. We got here about 6 and there was a decent wait 50min but their estimate of 35−45min wasn’t far off. The teamwork amongst hostesses, wait staff, and managers was very apparent and awesome. We started with buffalo shrimp! They were the. Their selection of local brews were was also pretty impressive. I highly recommend checking this place out. We’d definitely come back for more.

Favorite meal of our beach vacation so far. Food was fresh and awesome. Service was friendly and fast. And definitely kid friendly for our lunch.

Best crab cakes I have ever had. Service was amazing as well. Emmy was our server and we will be requesting her when we go back later In the week.

Wonderful dining experience! Our server Amanda was extremely friendly and helpful when ordering. The hostess was also very friends and talkative. The braised portobello with goat cheese risotto was the best thing I’ve eaten in a long time! So much flavor for a vegetarian entrée. My husband ordered a sea food platter which he was thrilled with. We will be coming back before vacation is over to try the crab cakes which looked amazing!

This is one of the best meals we ate during our week long vacation. Had the crab cake sandwich and wife had the steak sub with house made cheese sauce. Could not of asked for it to be any better. Oh and $ 2.50 PBR pounders. Will be an every year stop for dinner without a doubt.

The bar was set high with the buffalo shrimp. It was exquisite! What followed was not amazing. We had the broccoli and crab chowder, it was good. We also had fish and chips… We were disappointed because the fish wasn’t very crispy. If it was it would have been amazing! We also had the crab cakes blackened. There was plenty of crab but just not great. Fries and slaw was served with both and were good as well. Don’t waste your money on the key lime pie– not good and too much vanilla. This is a place I would say «we’ve got to go back for the buffalo shrimp!»

Loved it! Don’t miss their baked oysters. it’s delicious! Everything we ordered was yummmm! Thank you! Coming back again for sure!

I dug Blue Moon. Seems like a place where the locals go. It’s in a shopping center but the ambiance is nice and the service at the bar was really really good.
I ordered the fish tacos which were fantastic but the beans and rice were not good. At all. That’s the only reason Blue Moon didn’t get 5 stars. Their beans tasted like a Christmas candle. It’s got to be allspice or something. But… The fish tacos had a lot of flavor. They weren’t bogged down by cheese and sauce and other condiments. The tortilla was kind of crispy too (my favorite).
Met some interesting characters at the bar. One lovely gentlemen who is retired from the military. I really liked him.
Nice beer selection! Tried a new beer. Founders session IPA. Followed by my old stand by, ballast point sculpin.
Did I say the bartenders were great? If you’re in town or a local trying Blue Moon for the first time, you’ll likely not be disappointed.

I’ve been here for a few days and was very disappointed in what I’d experienced for meals. A lot of large, semi fast food, diner cuisine. This is truly a hidden gem! I am not a very adventurous eater though my daughter is. My burger and fries were out of this world. My daughters shrimp over grits were plated beautifully and absolutely delicious!
They have a great beer selection with many to choose from. A great bar with plenty of room to eat if you choose that over waiting for a table.
The service was fast, pleasant and attentive.
Go ahead and try dessert, I promise it won’t disappoint. We shared a lemon cheesecake! Yum!
If you are like me and love to see what’s going on in the kitchen get a seat in the back room so you can see all of the prep. It is a young crew back there including the expediter. They truly seemed to just hum along.
I am so happy we found this place! Five stars on all levels!

Was somewhat skeptical given it is located in a strip mall and has no view of anything but a parking lot, however the food is AMAZING.
We arrived right as they opened on Saturday and I’m glad we did because it gets packed quickly. The food is awesome. I had the Chick DeCluck which was out of this world. The grilled pineapple on top of the blackened chickened meshed perfectly with the cilantro citrus cream.
The staff was awesome which I really appreciated because it was so busy.

Had a very tantalizing portobello burger at this fine establishment on my drive back from the the Roanoke Lost Colony.
The sandwich, and the service, were excellent. They took my order right away got my meal to me in less than 10 minutes.
They also have a bar situated in the middle so if you want to grab a beer with some friends after work or on the weekend it looks like a happening spot to do so!
The parking situation is great, too. However, if you’re driving north on I 158 it can be a bit deceiving because the parking lot that looks to be Blue Moon’s is actually another business’s so you’ll have get back on the road and drive another block.

My favorite restaurant in the Outer Banks ! The burgers are great, the fries are INCREDIBLE, the crab cakes, though pricey, are probably 90% crab (!), and the buffalo shrimp is the best I’ve ever had ! Never had a bad meal there and I’ve been going for years and years…
The staff is very friendly, chatty, helpful when it comes to the menu, and can make suggestions and recommendations, which I gladly accept. Kim was our server on the last trip and she was FANTASTIC !
The place is very clean, including the bathrooms, it’s busy and crowded but not too loud, and the open layout gives you a glimpse into to the immaculate kitchen and funny/​chatty but still very professional chefs.
Can’t write a higher starred review, but wish I could give TEN stars !!!

Highly recommended this family friendly restaurant. Great food and lively atmosphere. Bar and wait staff are very friendly.

We tried this place for lunch and had a mixed dining experience.
First of all, they should change the name of it to «Sour Pusses». We walked in and the two sour pusses behind the cash register looked at us like we were bothering them. Our further observation was that the entire staff seemed miserable from the hostesses, to the waitstaff, to the cooking staff. SMILE!
OK, now to the food.
I ordered the fish and chips and my girlfriend ordered the Caesar salad with chicken. The Caesar salad was good with some unusual additions like cherry tomatoes and caramelized onions; the Caesar dressing was very good. My fish and chips were good but the fish needed to be trimmed better, there was too much dark meat (too close to the main bloodline) in the pieces of fish I was served. The fries were thin, hand-​cut; my preference with fish and chips is a thicker chip. The cabbage in the Cole slaw needed to be cut smaller and I thought the dressing was very bland.
I would give the food 4 stars and the atmosphere 2 stars for an overall 3 star rating. I did modify and upgrade my original review based on managements response. At least they cared enough to respond. Thank you for that.

I’ve had great experiences so far in OBX, but really a lot of it has to do with places like Blue Moon. We did have to wait about 1 ½ hours, but as you can see it still deserves 5 stars in my book.
The service was outstanding. Our server was a gem, so helpful and polite. And after my mother-​in-​law was missing a side of veggies, our server apologized in excess and brought out some on the house.
The food though. I got the Shrimp n Grits, and while I still plan to get the «real» thing in New Orleans sometime, it will be hard to beat Blue Moon’s. Was much milder in spice than I expected, which was perfect to me. So great in every way, and the shrimp was cooked to perfection. Those cooks really know what they’re doing, and as my family said, the whole staff runs like a well-​oiled machine.
Happy we found this place!
