Not BYOB any more, so disappointed! It has a casual, relaxed atmosphere. Sushi rolls were reasonably priced for Nantucket standards, but taste & quality was just average.

Another reviews mention WOW. I honestly don’t think you can get sushi any worst than what this place had to serve. The only restaurant came close is sushi café in Wicker close their door like 15 yrs ago. I can’t start to describe how awful this place is? Biggest ripoff. 1. Miso Soup have moldy taste like left outside for weeks. 2. i can’t even describe the taste of the gardens salads. 3 Nantacket ocean is just nasty. Stinking tuna, sake, YT. came warmer than the sushi rice. 4.Chicken teriyaki is closer to General Tao chicken.9 pieces of deep fired chicken nuggets with just sweet soy sauce. WTF is this nasty Sh-t for$ 20.00 5.Curry Chicken Katsu. Seriously did the moron ever taste any curry before? You need just 2 tea spoon/its so salty. The only way i can describe 2 chicken katsu Mc-chicken, Sadly– how any moron screw this up! 6.White more like rice cake. We should get sushi from three star Michelin for less money. Bill $ 110 for one Sushi roll, one salads and 2 entrees. The Island Stop and Shop have Sushi. I think they can make the sushi fresh. You get have halfway decent sushi for a third of the price.

The food was about average and nothing spectacular, but was solid, good tasting fare and the personnel was very accommodating and nice. This is byob establishment with no charge for pouring, etc whatsoever… Very nice. Even after we were finished eating, we were encouraged to sit and finish our adult beverages! Even nicer. Recommended, mainly because they really seem to appreciate your business. Try the goya,. It was when better than the sushi rolls.

Sushi by Yoshi is a cozy little place, a place where the bathroom doubles as a storage facility due to square footage being ultimate commodity in Nantucket’s historic downtown. The prices were fare and the location is prime, as it’s quite walkable to both the ferry and to the Whaling Museum.

Has gone way down. Mediocre bland sushi. Bad service. Save your money, go elsewhere.

I ordered take out from here, consisting of the gyoza and curry chicken. The service and friendliness of the staff was exceptionally good, especially for a take out order. I was in the mood to eat some filling portions while kicking back and watching«Back to The Future» on TV. Sushi by Yoshi helped me make that happen. The food was by no means amazing, but it was good. Also they had extra sauce ready to go in the take out bag without me even asking for it. The restaurant clearly has an efficient system, quality food and a friendly staff. I recommend it as a quality option.

They just redid their whole restaurant and it is amazing. The food is really good and its BYOB. Cheap sushi for Nantucket.

The sushi here is decently priced with good serving sizes, my main issue it that the rolls aren’t that good and it’s BYOB. I know it’s hard to obtain a liquor license in Nantucket but if that’s the case make sure your food is incredible. There just isn’t anything special about the sushi here. There are a lot of other places in Nantucket with better sushi. They get by with their cheap prices and definitely draw in a crowd that way. I wish it was better because the prices are truly unbeatable in comparison to anywhere else on island.

The go to place for sushi on Nantucket. Best to go during off eating hours because it is a tight fit. You can order & pick up which is also great. Before going remember its a BYOB. I’m craving more of Yoshi’s sushi as I write this…

Sushi by Yoshi has proved themselves as the hero’s of sushi for operating 21 years on Nantucket island. I’ve been coming to this island since I’ve been 15 and am 31 now so my summers here have been wonderful; and the sushi I’ve eaten over the years have been only getting better then the years before. The atmosphere has improved as well at the sushi; plus its year round so I know where I can eat healthy on island anytime of the year! Thank you sushi by Yoshi!

Sadly, After maintaining very high standards for 20 years, the chefs went to Lola and everything about the place went down hill immediately. Then the fire was the coup de gras. Unless the owner re commits to the quality the customers were used to there is no point to re opening. Great News! Now the chefs have moved to Café V in Vanessa Noël Hotel on Chestnut Street and Nantucketers have good sushi again.

It was a Thursday. We were dead tired for bicycling. I called in to do takeout, just because I figured we would have more time to relax before we took a flight out in the morning. We showed up after they told us 45 minutes to find two disgruntled men who basically did the same thing we did but were telling us they had been waiting almost two hours for their takeout. After they got theirs, we thought maybe it was an accident and maybe they don’t do that usually. Two hours later, we were furious. Don’t tell us 45 minutes if it’s not 45 minutes. I understand it’s a busy place, but I’ve worked in a 5 star place for two years and I’ve never made someone wait two hours.

Let me preface this by saying this is Nantucket. If you want ambiance spend more and shuffle down to Lo-La. We did the opposite and read the reviews on Yoshi and gave it a try. Take out should be ok in town. We eat sushi maybe once or twice per month so our compass is pretty accurate. Getting to the point I will rate the dishes 1 – 5. 1. The place is tiny, cramped with zero ambiance. Sitting at the sushi bar is sterile. 2. Since they didn’t offer Toro… I opted out of sashimi. I quick look around indicated that most were enjoying the rolls. We ate Gyoza(4) Edamame(3) spicy tuna rolls(2) but the soft shell crab and tempura shrimp rolls were indiscernible(1). They were not only served on top of each other but there were so many other ingredients you couldn’t taste the crab vs the shrimp. All filler. I should have taken a picture!!! Large portions overwhelmed the presentation. 10 pieces per order is overboard! I would rather enjoy more variety… and please less rice filler. 3. This place was being run by 4 and the service suffered. The staff consisted of one Sushi chef who never made eye contact at the sushi bar; one chef working the fryer and other food; and two waiters that were overwhelmed and unfriendly. My dead edamame shells sat for 20 minutes with other dirty dishes on the edge of the sushi bar as they walked by time after time. I finally asked for their removal. The place wasn’t even that busy. I can’t imagine what they encounter on a busy summer weekend. Our food did come out promptly! 4. BYOB means BYOB. By prepared to open your own wine and chill it if necessary. I tried to write a constructive review as I feel slamming places with 1 and 2 reviews really requires a horrible experience. Given the other dining options in town I would relegate Sushi by Yoshi to take out orders only. EB

On a recent trip to Nantucket island in early October, my husband and I met up with two friends, whom are year-round residents. They suggested we eat dinner at Sushi by Yoshi, and we were delighted to check the restaurant out. Because the restaurant is very small and the dining area tiny with seating close together, we had to wait about 20 – 30 minutes for a table. Once we got in there though, the place seemed to clear out almost all at once, until our table ended up being the only one left! That was nice, though, because we no longer felt cramped. Now, despite the small accomodations(certainly not the proprietor’s fault), the service, value, quality and taste of the meals was extremely satisfying for all of us. My husband and I enjoyed some wonderful shumai and crab rangoons together and our friends snacked on a bowl of lightly salted, perfectly steamed edemame, while waiting for their sashimi and sushi platter to share. My husband & I ordered some maki shushi rolls: me a Dynamite and Spicy Tuna roll, and he the Scallop Tempura roll(on special). The crab rangoons were probably my least favorite, though. I’ve had better as I’ve ordered them in many different places, as well as making my own at home. We were all very delighted with the quality and taste of our meals. We were able to bring in two bottles of wine with us, as this small eatery is BYOB only. We really enjoyed our first dining experience here and will be sure to be back on our next visit off the mainland!

I’ve been here twice and both times the service was solid(polite, but not fawning — it’s a busy place) and the sushi fresh and delicious. Relative to most other things on Nantucket, it’s also inexpensive — there are a lot of maki roll options for the same price as a chipwich at the Juice Bar. Yes, there is often a wait, space is tight, and despite probably being the least-expensive sushi on Nantucket, it still isn’t cheap. However, in the context of being a restaurant on Nantucket, it’s solid and those negatives are consistent with the area. Plus, BYOB!

The sushi here is average, or slightly better, and on the pricey side. The BYOB aspect is a little problematic since there are only wine stores around so if you want sake or a Japanese beer — forget it. But my main issue with the place is it never seems to have any specials(or maybe you have to sit at the counter?) Each time I go I ask, and they say ‘just what’s on the menu.’ I’m not trying to tell the chef how to do his job: it’s his place and his system. But I’d like to go somewhere where the chef has an abiding interest in providing the freshest, seasonal, local fish. There’s plenty of fluke, black sea bass and striped bass around Nantucket during the summer, all of which makes great sashimi. Yet I’ve never seen it here… Why?

I just returned from a week in the Cape and out of all of the restaurants I dined in during my stay, Sushi by Yoshi was my favorite. The sushi was unbelievably fresh. I had the Salmon Nantucket Roll, the Dynamite Roll and a shrimp/avocado roll — all were delish. The spicy sauce in the Dynamite Roll was not the spicy sauce to which I am accustomed(spicy mayonaise), it was more of a tabasco sauce — different in a good way! The place is small, somewhat lacking in ambiance and it was BYOB but I was there for the fish and only the fish and the chef more than delivered. Highly recommend!

When I’m craving some great sushi or want to grab takeout for a quiet night at home, I head right for Sushi by Yoshi. I’ve never had occasion to dine in, so I can’t speak much to the wait staff, but the front desk people I order from have always been super nice. I like to try new things and they’re very good about making recommendations. The inside of the restaurant is small, but quaint and outside the bustle of the surrounding streets. The sushi is incredibly fresh and you can see them making it right in front of you. I would agree that it’s on the pricey side, but the fish is the highest quality and prepared by an expert, so I’ve never complained. I think the best thing on the menu is the Dynamite roll. They should really start bottling the spicy sauce they dribble on top because its so delicious I would put it on everything. I have also enjoyed some of their other rolls and sashimi. I think it would be hard to make a wrong choice. The only non-fish dish I’ve had is the pan-fried noodle. Surprisingly tasty for simple noodles with vegetables! If you love sushi, be sure to stop by.

Sushi restaurant on an island renowned for seafood; pretty close to a great match. Frequented by would-be beatniks and pseudo beach bums, a bit pricey, with a nice ambiance.

For some reason, whenever I’m near the water and amidst a sea(no pun intended) of lobster/mussel/oyster spots, I’ve never really stopped to consider sushi. Sushi by Yoshi is a nice, cozy restaurant near the docks, and their fish was fresh an generously cut. Specialty rolls weren’t really that creative compared to spots I frequent in NY, but I guess they’re going for the«purist» clientele. Seating is limited(expect a wait during peak season/times) and it’s BYOB, so if you’re drinking, put your name in and then grab some cold ones to bring back! Food was good, and this place is definitely worth your time if you’re in Nantucket and want a change of pace from all of the New England lobster bakes!
