The Tavern

Ate there today. Had great service and very delicious clam strips! I just wanted to say thank you again to my very pleasant waitress who cleaned up my mess when I dumped my iced tea everywhere!

The food here is exorbitantly overpriced for the mediocre quality and décor. The tavern was recommended by a family member who frequents Nantucket, it was simply a bad suggestion. My finances salad was old and had rotten pieces of lettuce in it. I had a lobster roll which was ok but wayyyy overpriced at $ 20. We also both chose to drink white wines, what a mistake. The wines they are serving are god awful and also overpriced. All together our total came out to $ 70. Oh and did I mention service was terrible? I highly recommend you stay away.

We wanted a good place to sit outside and watch the tourists and locals go by. The Tavern was recommended to us. It is a little bit down from where the ferry lands.
Erin was our waitress and brought us our drinks. We had looked at the menu before going in. The lobster roll caught both of our eyes. It comes with chips but for a little more money you can get French fries and for a little bit more, some greens to go with it. We both stuck with the chips. I thought the lobster roll was a little pricey at $ 22.00. After all, we are in Nantucket. Aren’t the lobsters just right in the ocean?
The sandwich came and it was beautiful. The only way I can describe it is it was on kind of a hotdog bun. The best thing — the lobster just wasn’t sitting on the top. It went all the way through the bun. Absolutely outstanding.
Would I come back again? Yes, if I’m ever in Nantucket.

Expensive. Meh food. Small lobster roll. Service was friendly but not very good. Burger was adequate– small and over cooked.

The Tavern is great! The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. I had the half sandwich and soup which was a tuna melt and clam chowder. WOW. It was a very good lunch! I also tried the mozzarella sticks and the calamari. Everything was good, but the best thing was the customer service. It’s nice to walk into a place and feel that the staff are going to do what they can to put a smile on your face!

Wonderful food, great atmosphere, was able to seat the whole family together at the same table, didn’t have to wait long at all, waitress was very personable and quick to taking our order and always being tentative to filling drinks and making sure we were always set. Food came out and was just delicious best fish and chips I’ve had in a real long time you could tell they change their frying oil because you could really taste the freshness in the fish and it didn’t taste like oil! Not one person at the table had a complaint about their food! I loved the outdoor seating and the scenic view of the boats. Great experience at The Tavern!

My mom and I came here for dinner before taking the boat back to Hyannis. The ambiance is nice — there are several outdoor tables that face the docks. The wait wasn’t bad on a Monday night. It was around 15 minutes for our table at 730pm.
We decided to split the Fisherman’s platter and a caesar salad for dinner. The Fisherman’s platter is a mix of fried seafood, and it came with shrimp, scallops, cod, clam strips, calamari, and fries. The portion was generous and plenty for 2 people, and the seafood tasted fresh. We were satisfied. The caesar salad was also tasty. The lettuce was crisp and the tomatoes ripe. We opted to add fried oysters to our salad which made it much more delicious.
Service was great. We told our waitress we were pressed for time because we needed to make sure we got to our boat, and she made sure our food came out quickly. She was very friendly as well.

This was such a great dinner! Started off with calamari, shrimp cocktail and chicken wings. We then ordered our main entrees. I had fish and chips, which were so fresh, lightly battered and perfect. My man had the lobster mac n cheese and it was killer, and our other friend got the pappardelle pasta and he loved it. We all shared a bottle of Malbec from Argentina, and that was lovely as well.
We sat upstairs on the outdoor patio, but they also have a large outdoor patio downstairs. Such a sweet spot. Definitely I’ll go back.

Good food relaxed atmosphere and good staff. The wait staff were attentive and the food was cooked perfectly. Definitely a busy place depending on when you get there but they get ppl served and move on very efficiently. A good place to go for just drinks or a full meal.

We came here for lunch and sat on the patio. It was pretty crowded but we got seated right away. I started with a mug of chowder which was good. For my main lunch course I got the lobster roll. It was good but not very big for the price. All in all I liked this spot and would recommend it. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was good and the setting was nice

This was the first time in Nantucket for me. Cute little shops everywhere and little pubs and restaurants as well. We decided to go to The Tavern for dinner (we kind of just picked it without really knowing what they had). Well it was a good pick! Food here is primarily sea food and then menu is not that large.
Wait service: our waitress was awesome! She was always there at the right time for drink refills. She also checked in with us a few times during the corse of appetizers and main meal.
Food quality: the food was amazing! For an appetizer we chose the calamari. It was the freshest calamari I’ve ever had and the sauce that was on it was very tasty. For main meal I had the crab cake sandwich. At first I didn’t want the bun that came with it but I did eat it the way it was prepared. Again the most fresh crab cake I’ve ever had! The sauce was also very good and I was glad I eat it the way it was prepared. My side was French fries and they were very delicious as well. Nice and crunchy. I also tried the other sea food for people at our table and would not have been disappointed with any of it. Other sea food at the table were fish and chips, fried shrimp and scallops. We were worried that the fries stuff would be greasy but they definitely were not.
Wait time: maybe had to wait under 5 mins. Got to sit outside under a covering. It was nice and plenty of room.
Atmosphere: it was pretty busy but still was enjoyable. It was clean from what I could see.

Wow. We were seated immediately and quickly attended to. Our food came out less than 10 minutes later – amazing! The service was great and so was the food. The fries were delicious, the burger was juicy, and my grandma’s chicken sandwich was great. Definitely try if you’re in the area.

Yup, 5 star review based on excellent service and awesome food. Had the Mediterranean shrimp salad that was fresh and generously portioned. Was very surprised since this is located in the heart of tourist alley. Will return for sure.

The tavern had great food along with a great atmosphere. I ordered the lobster roll and it was delicious. I definitely recommend you to eat there.

Pleasant lunch with friends. Good food, great service and wonderful outdoor seat. Although the overall food rating was a simple good, it’s the outdoor seating on a perfect day and great service which make me give it a 4 star rating.
My fried clams were good… not great. My son’s cheeseburger looked amazing but as he said was just ok. My wife’s salad was tasty and my friends enjoyed their veggie wrap. Their daughters chicken sandwich with fresh mozzarella again looked amazing but was just ok. Jenny our wonderful waitress was great. Constantly stopping by to make sure we were good.
Now, for price the bill was $ 180 for 6 people. Which was a wow in itself but I’m in Nantucket so I can’t complain. My wife’s margarita was $ 15… Ouch!
Overall a great experience.

We stopped in here for a drink, the place (including the gazebo) is super pricey, but that is to be expected from a place that is 50 steps from the ferry.
Great place to grab a later night drink though.

Quick & easy bite before jumping on the ferry. Convenient location. Chowder was good but I expect most of coastal MA offers good chowder. I had a John Daly served in a plastic cup which in most places means you can take it to go. Not in Nantucket. Real glasses for $ 10 drinks might be in order. The staff were nice.

After a long day of biking, touring, and overall enjoying Nantucket, The Tavern at Harbor Square was a very nice place to relax before getting on the ferry (which is conveniently just down the street).
We arrived around 7pm and got the last patio table available. The host and waitress were both very friendly.
My husband had the Tavern Burger — the bite I had was delicious with the burger being perfectly cooked. I had the grilled fish of the day, which was swordfish. I could not believe the the size of the swordfish portion! It was twice the size of what I expected and absolutely AMAZING! It was grilled to perfection with a hint of citrus. My fish came with a side of rice pilaf and steamed vegetables.
Because I had heard so many good things about the mudslide, we shared one instead of getting dessert. It was tasty but not my favorite drink (definitely more of a craft beer drinker). It could have used a little more Bailey’s and Kahlua. :)
Overall it was a very nice meal and a lovely place to finish our day trip to Nantucket.
