Maharajah has earned a 5 star review for their consistently excellent food! Lunch deals are awesome!!!

Decent Indian cuisine and no doubt a welcome dash of ethnicity to the Narragansett Pier Marketplace. The dishes are generally good over all and sure to satisfy your spice cravings. Maharaja’s curries and vindaloos have a good flavor and seasoning, although sometimes the flavors of each curry style tended to blur together. My colleagues and I shared the lamb vindaloo, palak paneer, dal makhni, and fish curry, which came with basmati rice. We also ordered some plain naan. We agreed on taking the dishes on the mild side — and was told by our server that even«mild», it still packed some good heat — to ensure no-one in our party got over-whelmed. We also had some«Indian hot» gravy on the side to adjust to our individual tastes. Best IMO was the vindaloo and the dal makhni — the lamb was tender and the vindaloo sauce was tasty though lacking heat(even when mixed with the hot sauce on the side; this side sauce alone disappointingly had little heat, so this vindaloo did not live up to its fiery reputation); the dal was also satisfying and the lentils had a nice al dente bite. The palak paneer was also a winner with soft cubes of mild cheese and creamy spinach(would be great invalid food!). The fish curry’s gravy had a good flavor as well but I noted that the fish had a slightly off taste, a sign to me that it was not the freshest. The naan was a bit on the hard side; generally I prefer my naan to be softer. All in all, though, a serviceable Indian restaurant and well worth patronizing.

Delicious! Maharaja is an awesome family-owned restaurant serving authentic Indian food. Everyone who works here takes great pride in their food, and you can tell that they thoroughly enjoy seeing that each and every customer is satisfied. Will be back again and again.

Really great Indian food. I had the naan with coconut at our waitress’ recommendation. The chicken tikka masala was very delicious as was the shrimp saag. The waitress and host clearly love what they do and it shows in every aspect of the experience. The inside of the restaurant is painted light blue and it almost felt like a seafood place. I would highly recommend — especially for the very reasonable price and incredible location — right by the beach in Narragansett!

Best lunch ever. On a spur of the moment my sister, adult son and I went to Maharaja. I am very unfamiliar with Indian fare but my sister is very familiar. It was helpful to have her suggest to me since I have some dietary issues but the waiter was also extremely helpful in describing the ingredients, the«heat» level and let us know that the Tandoor had been made the day before and set overnight so that on Friday’s it is the most flavorful. It was amazing! Unfortunately I can not remember the name of everything we ate but it was awesome. We had a basket of three types of Naan that was very delicious. There are many vegetarian options and it is a varied menu. Had a bunch of leftovers to bring home so we can enjoy the experience again. The staff was very friendly and helpful. A very peaceful place to have a great late lunch.

Excellent meal and service. Some of the best Indian food I’ve had for dinner. Will return again the next time I’m in town.

Don’t get me wrong, food was great. The bread was flavorful and such a terrific accompaniment to the chicken tikka masala and tandoori which were to die for.(+2) I will clarify the why not«5» stars. used an app to order food, was missing an item.(–1). also I did not eat in and therefore cannot comment on service or setting(–1). Difficult to find, signage needs some improvement.(–1). The take-out service is recommended as long as you confirm your items upon pick up against the EatStreet receipt.

Love indian food, first having it in Japan… no lie. This is the closest thing I have found to the one I used to frequent. The curry was amazing, the tandoori chicken was as well. The garlic/cilantro Naan is amazing. Servers were all friendly and hope to go back again soon!

Some of the best Indian food I’ve had in years. Lots of incredible vegetarian selections, with exceptionally delicious sauces. Susmita was the most kind and knowledgeable server, and took lots of time explaining all the dishes to us, helping us find exactly what we wanted. I think we tried half the menu, and enjoyed the leftovers for 3 days! Can’t wait to be back in Narragansett for another meal at Maharaja :)

After an extended break to allow for the tourista to vacate most of Narragansett it was time to order take out from Maharaja. There were some changes but only esthetic not gourmet much to my satisfaction. The first thing I noticed driving up to the restaurant was an almost swimming pool blue coloring on the walls-pretty vibrant! I’m not sure this color would even make it to my standby color palette for the ‘re-do’ but I suppose you have to shake things up sometimes. The reception area is still a bit crowded but makes more sense when first entering the restaurant and it’s across from the kitchen entrance so you now get to enjoy the platters of beautiful dishes passing by your nose. On the night I stopped by, I was greeted by someone who appeared to be the floor manager-a good sign and an addition I’d not noticed previously at Maharaja. All of the staff seemed to be in sync and the vibe seemed ‘familial’, quietly efficient, and attentive. Every dish we ordered was cooked with the utmost skill and although I didn’t expect it, the Tandoori Chicken contained bones(something I didn’t know about the dish but not a deal breaker) which they should describe in the menu or tell a patron about if they’ve never had the dish before. I wouldn’t get this dish as take out again since it’s prone to dry out a bit whereas having it fresh from the oven in front of you would help it retain it’s moisture. The Fish Curry killed it according to my wife and the other dishes/apps were spot on. What would I change? A refit for this long, narrow ‘hallway’ of a restaurant. It has that ‘cafeteria/food court’ layout that’s incongruous with Maharaja’s excellent food. Perhaps an oversimplification on my part but couldn’t the owner expand the floor plan or find a roomier location on this property of his? I would love to see cushy booths, walls covered in imported fabric and/or artwork. With enough space, Maharaja could offer live traditional music in a corner or against a spare wall-how great would that be for South County?

Finally found good Indian food in Rhode Island! And, believe me, I’ve been looking hard. Every other place either lacks the full flavor punch I expect, or just isn’t authentic. The staff was very friendly, despite the rude customers across the aisle from us. The food was spicy and delicious. Portion sizes are actually bigger than I’m accustomed to which was a nice surprise. The Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Korma were both to die for. Definitely worth the half hour drive from Providence. We will be going back regularly.

Best navarathan korma I’ve ever had. The food is cooked to order and it is excellent. Every time. This is the best Indian restaurant in Rhode Island.

I live in Narragansett and I know the tourists all come for our seafood, but on the nights when they are seafooded out(because places are so full) , I would so suggest they try Indian food! The staff is awesome and will walk you through stuff you are not used to! But I will tell you, you will enjoy and be a fan of Indian cooking!

Mr. Husband and I have been in a couple of times now, and tried a bunch of different things and really liked everything we’ve had. The place is small, and being tucked away in the same building as another restaurant and and inn, unless you know where it is, it might be a little hard to find. Both times our service was great(although the second time, there seemed to be only one server waiting on everyone. Our wait was a little longer at times, but given the situation he seemed to be in, we never felt neglected and he was definitely making an effort to make sure we had everything we needed. I’ve been to some restaurants that had plenty of staff that could clearly take some tips from him on service.) I digress though. The food… delicious. They give you complimentary papri chat and sauces to start, and have a modest drink and beer menu. Over several visits, Mr. Husband had the spinach paneer, chicken korma, and chicken vindaloo. All were generous and flavorful servings with plenty of paneer and chicken pieces. They also will vary the spice level for you, which is nice since we like it good and spicy. I also couldn’t resist the paneer pakoras. I think the only two qualms I’ve had with the food was with the nan and the mixed Tandoori grill appetizer. For the price, I wish there had been a little more served, but given that the food was so good and the rest of their menu prices are reasonable, these are minor things. And the best part… they do takeout. Which we haven’t tried yet, but I imagine we could quickly become a little too accustomed to getting!

We orders the veggie samosa as an appetizer and they were perfectly spiced and probably the best samosa I have ever eaten. For an entrée I got the vegetable biryani and my wife ordered channa masala. So impressed. The biryani had lots of perfectly cooked cashews and the veggies were fresh and delicious. The chick peas in the channa masala had a great texture and were just right with the spices. I would absolutely come here again!

Best Indian food in Rhode Island in my opinion. It’s still a hidden jewel so it’s never packed and you get your food fast. It’s small and quaint. We always get the lamb appetizers with the dipping sauce. Today we opted for the honey ginger naan, ridiculously awesome. Chicken vimdaloo is always a go to. Always comforting food that’s hits the spot. Owners are super nice and professional. Clean place, wish I lived closer to get take out.

I love spending time in Narragansett. Its a great town, but the food, the goods are few and far between. This is especially true for the small little independents. Maharaja is making good on being the exception. About a year ago the small dining room at the front of the Village Inn became an Indian restaurant. The patio deck and inside bar are still part of «Oceanside», but the food I’m interested in is over here. Chef Puneet Kumar is cooking up some amazing Tandoori and north Indian classics, and bringing the heat! The night we visited, we had the dining room nearly to ourselves, with one other couple braving the cold rain on a weeknight. I imagine, that will change as their reputation grows, the food is good enough to carry a following. We started with the Vegetable Samosas. I had ordered a Lamb Keema Samosa, but it was not available. That may have been fortuitous, this vegan option was delicious. The deep fried pyramid, filled with potato and pea, coriander and garam masala, jumped out with deep, bold, and layered flavor. I had the Lamb Biryani, and this should start with a note. Our server asked for our preference for spiciness, on a scale from 1 to 10. I like very spicy food, quite a bit actually, and asked for a 7⁄10. What I got was was perfect for me, though I am certain that many people would not have enjoyed this meal. It was hot, quite, quite hot. That worked nicely in the Biryani, a dish with many bold and complex flavors, that were able to keep up with the chilis. And it was built on a base of Basmati rice, which moderated the heat quite nicely. My wife ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, and a 4⁄10. Her dish was unworldly hot. The Tandoor roasted cubes of white meat chicken were cooked in a Crayola bright, red tomato and cream sauce. It was too much heat for her to enjoy. The waiter noticed right away, and bought out a milder version the chef prepared quickly. This batch was a softer, creamier color, the tone tomato soup and milk, and was delicious. We brought a bit of both preparations home, the portions are generous, and I too found the heat too much to take without mixing. Its entirely possible that the«heat index» for our orders got mixed up, mine with the 4 and the Tikka a 7. But, you should be careful when ordering here, they bring the heat, and its great.
