Closed?! What?! I’ve only been here once(and alas, it was a while ago in November), but the memory of the coziness, intimacy, the food and location made me want to reminisce, all by writing a review.. The brazilian steak salad was the perfect balance of a perfect portion of steak that was flavorful and well done, not tossed with an overbearing large amount of greens. The tables were tiny af(almost had to balance the plate on my lap), but added to the sort of ex-pat atmosphere of the restaurant. I hope they really do open a new location or new version of BarBossa, because they had their food and service on point. Even if BarBossa is gone from the face of the Earth(a true loss to the neighborhood), let this be a good ode to its awesomeness.

Sigh. I have mixed feelings about this review as I just saw that it is closed. SIGH. Should I review a place that had so much meaning to me? Sure? Even if in remembrance. RIP. I stumbled in here one brisk January day while apartment hunting. I was debating a couple apartments, one just so happened to be down the street. Came in to warm up — AKAMARTINI!!! Ha. Amazingly nice bartender helped me out. Next thing I knew, I was signing a lease. Great staff with great food. Their drinks were always mixed perfectly, even though I usually just got a Hendricks martini. My favorite bartenders in my hood! I hope to see them soon!

Loved everything we ordered. The mango curry was different but really good and the ½ soup and sandwich was rich and warmed my belly. Fun drinks and good service.

I went here on a Thursday night with a friend and was pleasantly surprised with my dining experience. Service was super friendly, food was tasty, and the overall vibe was hip, cool, and easy-going. I got the flank steak salad, which was really really good. The meat was cooked perfectly to my preference and the greens, tomatoes, and avocado made for a great combination. For out of towners looking to get a feel for the trendy Nolita neighborhood and to experience NYC as new yorkers do, this is a good spot. It’s also a great spot for anyone looking to have a chill dining experience highlighted by good food and drinks. Everyone here was pretty attractive and trendy, so it’s got a cool vibe to it.(Read: gentleman, there is nice scenery to admire). Definitely go if you’re looking for good food and atmosphere.

Banana rice pudding was delicious! Seafood stew and shrimp curry were yummy. Wish there was more.

Ordered a Tuscan kale salad with roast chicken to-go. It cost a little over $ 18. The chicken is an additional $ 5! I only got a couple of pieces of chicken — 5 pieces of barely cubed chicken. That’s $ 1 per piece! It feels very light. I’m disappointed that this is what I got for $ 18. It’s a rip off. Across the street is Café Havana and they offer a way better salad with grilled chicken for your money’s worth. I would not recommend this place if you’re about the getting a bang for your dollar.

Small and cozy Brazilian restaurant in Nolita. Perfect spot to have a caipirinha and try some Brazilian dishes like Feijoada, or some seafood dishes. The desserts are sweet and very creative.

Came for brunch with a few friends. Plenty of seating so there was no wait. Food was ok. Service was pretty slow(everything just took a while, from ordering, to receiving our actual food, to even getting the check). It’s like they just didn’t care. I ordered the Chicken Club. It came with a side of salad and overall the sandwich was pretty tasty but it was also a little oily. It probably also tasted better because I was extremely hungry by the time I got my food. I tried some of the dishs my friends ordered too but nothing really jumpted out at me. Needless to say, I most likely will not return since there are so many other great food options in the city.

Planned on getting the steak salad but ended up getting sandwiches. Was still hoping it would be good but the sandwiches were really thin, hardly any stuff inside. My friend and I also got drinks; a strawberry sangria and lemonade sangria. It wasn’t that good. Definitely not worth $ 13 for it.

Good romantic atmosphere. Small but intimate space. Waiter was nice enough to move our seat to the back with bigger tables. Food was okay but wasn’t spectacular based on the raved reviews. Got the spicy chicken wings as an appetizer but they were soo tiny. Plus the dish only had like 5 chicken wings. But they were pretty good, crispy skin with a medium spicyness that the yogurt helped cooled down. For my entrée I got the Feijoada-brazilian black bean pork stew with collard greens, farofa & rice. The pork was dry and farofa was funky tasting. The collard greens were tasty but I wouldn’t pay $ 13 just for a plate of collard greens. Presentation was good though they topped with slices of madarin oranges. My bf got the chicken and mango coconut curry. He said the dish lacked flavor and was just bland. p.s– the bathroom literally had a bar soap on stick(super awkward) We ended up going across the street to Café Habana and getting a cuban sandwich. I think that speaks for itself. I mean the food was okay I’ll probably try the sandwiches next time. Heard they were good.

Small, intimate, shhhhhh secret. I was asked by a regular to keep this spot secret and not to share it with the world. But I figured I owe it to Unilocal to share this Brazilian spot. I started with a caprinha and would definitely return to have another. The brussel sprouts skillet app was just right. Roasted and covered in parmesan cheese. Based on the regulars dinner, I chose the feijoada. Black bean and pork stew served with collard greens and rice. A complete meal. The pork was cooked as a whole piece which was nice to discover. Tender and full of flavor perfectly complemented by the black bean taste. The beau had the steak and polenta. I really enjoyed the crisped polenta with cheese toasted on top. The steak was a bit overpowered by the amount of sauce. This place is tiny, but there is a cool large table in the back for a large group.

Randomly came to this little restaurant for lunch because Café Habana had a long wait and the Unilocal reviews were good. Never had too much Brazilian food so we were up to try it. The place was rather empty when we arrived so we were seated immediately. We were all starving and were ready to order very quickly. The service was rather slow as we waited for a while for someone toe come around and take our order. When she finally came and took our order the food took another 30 minutes to come out(if not more). I ordered the Chicken Sandwich, it came with a side salad. It was $ 13. It was pretty good, but I was also pretty hungry. A friend ordered one of their brunch skillets with ham. That looked really good, should have gotten that. He confirmed it was good. A friend ordered a bloody mary which cost $ 10. I don’t like them, but he said it was delicious. tl;dr If you decide to come here get the brunch skillets and the bloody mary.

I’m not too familiar with Brazilian cuisine — but I must admit I’m getting better, learning more and eating more of it! A large part of this is thanks to one of my college friends. He studied abroad in Brazil for quite some time, so he’s my go-to guy. We originally planned to hit up a restaurant a block or so away, but it was very crowded with a 45 min wait. Luckily, BarBossa was right around the corner! And I’m so glad we ate here instead. The inside is tiny, tiny, tiny. But they use their space pretty efficiently. Small, yet intimate. We sat at a corner table which to be honest, was a bit small for my liking(barely could fit 2 plates/2 people)… but we made do. For the main course, I ordered the Feijoada as per my friend’s suggestion. If you don’t know what that is… it’s traditional in Brazilian culture — black bean pork stew with collard greens, farofa(or as we like to call it, the«dust») and rice. It’s comfort food for sure. I was happily surprised at how much I enjoyed it! There were definitive layers of flavor in every bite. The pork was tender and delicious as well. Overall, a solid dish. I had a bite of my friend’s sandwich, the Calabreza(pork sausage, caramelized onions, Gruyère cheese and pico de gallo) which was tasty too. The dessert however, was interesting. We ordered the Romeo, Juliet and the Lover. What a name for a dish! I was immediately intrigued. It’s what I would describe as a sampling of sorts. They had 3 Quenelles of Guava paste, Dulce de Leche and Fresh Ricotta. Not my usual, but definitely worth the try! Suggestion: try tasting them alone and then together! Let your pallet work its magic.

A little place with a bar and about 6 – 7 two person tables, a 6 person table and a larger bench area in the back near the bathrooms. There was not so much room as I was getting kicked or having someone knock into me on all sides(this will not be a problem if you get a table next to the wall). The waitresses were very nice and friendly. For appetizers we got the Páo De Queijo which were small little bread cheese rolls. These would not be a reorder. They were about the size of ping pong balls and you get 6 for $ 7. They were fine, but nothing special. For entrees, I got the Roasted Chicken Club Sandwich which came with bacon, mango salsa, spicy mayo, cilantro and a salad. This was very good! The bf got Eggplant Polenta Ala Parmigiana which he thought was good to ok. Something about the sauce or layout or something that didn’t float his boat. For dessert, we got the Passionfruit Pavé with fresh whipped cream and toasted almonds which was pretty good and a different dessert than we normally have. I would’ve loved more almond chips. Overall this place was pretty good and I would definitely come back for that roasted chicken club!

Laid back, calm atmosphere. Friendly service. Love that they were playing lots of Beatles music during brunch. I ordered the scrambled eggs with sausage and caramelized onions, which was very nice. It came with a side of greens that had a little bit of pico de gallo on them which needs to be done more often. I also ordered a very carefully poured mimosa with fresh squeezed orange juice that was delicious.

I’m not that impressed. I’ve ordered from here once and I’ve eaten in once with a party of 6. The food is just ok. The service was slow and lackluster. I know we had a table of 6 but it took them 50 minutes to make our food and the waiter hardly came around. If this is normal then this is not a good place for you to dip out to during a one hour lunch break. Food wise I’ve had an eggplant and polenta parm and I’ve tried the shrimp curry. Both ok but nothing I am dying to go back for.

Ehhh! I’m really not impressed and it left a dissatisfied taste in my mouth to talk about it. I had good expectations because of reviews and my friends have been here. For appetizers, the mussels were just okay. A little plain even w the sauce. We also got the cheesy bread pieces which were tiny as hell and didn’t even taste good. I actually disliked very much. Drinks were bland or too strong for cocktails so fail on both fronts. For entrée, I shared a steak and polenta and it tasted like spaghetti n meatballs. The steak was steak cubes and it had this tomato sauce on it. Yuck. And the polenta cakes were burnt and didn’t taste like anything. Not impressed at all.

BarBossa — ele e o melhor! Here’s why: Drink — I had the Strawberry Mojito and it was clearly sweet from the berries and not just loaded with simple syrup. However, there was not nearly enough rum. Both my roommate and I agreed the drinks were WEAK&SUGARY though delicious. Ambiance — tiny, Nolitan, perfect Service — efficient FOOD — The food was so SAVORY! I enjoyed the Crab & Garlic dip that came with 5 crostinis. It was filled to the brim with crab, and the garlic was not strong at all. I am all about extra garlic, but the crab was so good, I forgot the garlic was a bit absent. For my entrée I had the Tuna Tartare Salad with Ricotta Toast and a fresh greens salad. For the first time in NYC, I found an inexpensive($ 14) entrée with LOADSOFTUNATARTARE! Finally, a place that serves the portion you pay for. It was heavenly. I was so full that I enjoyed only a bite of the ricotta toast, but it was also delicious. The salad included arugula and cilantro with a light dressing I am kicking myself for not coming here sooner!!!

Before I even walked through the door I knew it was going to be a good night. My most recent favorite appetizer was one of the specials… brussels sprouts! We arrived around 7pm and luckily the place was fairly empty. There were just a few people at the bar and one party of 6 in the back, so we had a slew of tables to choose from in the front/main area. Initially I suggested we sit at the table closest to the window(I love people watching) but we quickly moved because those tables were SO small. I couldn’t picture a dinner plate fitting on it, let alone two plates. That said, this place is teeny. Well, for Nolita I guess it is average… On to the food: the sprouts were great. Crispy on the outside, crunchy on the inside and not the slightest bit mushy. They were more oily than I prefer, but it didn’t take away from the dish. The parmesan sprinkled and baked on top was a nice touch! And thanks, fellow Unilocalers for raving about the shrimp avocado curry dish. You all were spot on about this! So flavorful, well-balanced, perfectly portioned, and hearty. I would definitely order this again. My only qualms were with the cocktails– they’re sweet, small, and pricey. Wine is a better bang for your buck here.
