I’ve been using Empire Cleaners for a while, and have noticed the quality steadily declining. On my most recent visit, I dropped off 15 shirts to be cleaned, without starch.
13 of the 15 shirts came back starched and with mysterious brown stains all over. It looked like they used a rusty iron or burned the starch into the clothing.
Otherwise, they’re been great for everything else. Maybe it was an isolated incident?

I have been going to Empire Tailors & Cleaners for over 20 years. I have used them for dry cleaning and alterations on numerous occasions and they have always done an excellent job. They are pleasant and helpful and a wonderful addition to the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood.

I randomly stopped in this place to drop off laundry after I got fed up with the broken washing machines in my building almost a year ago. This place has been solid. Usually same day turnaround for wash and fold laundry. I take my button up shirts here to wash and press and, unlike other places I’ve been, they come back pressed perfectly. I’ve also had several alterations done here from simple pants hemming to dress coat sleeve hemming, and they’ve all been excellent and relatively inexpensive.
The owner knows me by name now. She is very nice. Once they know you, they really take care of you. The owner gave me a new laundry bag when mine started to break down and even didn’t charge me to replace some buttons on a shirt when I brought it in for a cleaning. I seriously question some of the negative reviews on here because this place is great!

Solid place to get your laundry/​dry cleaning done; I’ve never had any issues over the past year and a half I’ve been going here. Service is very friendly and the woman who works here makes a point to remember you and learn your name if you’re a regular.
Prices are a little higher for wash-​and-​fold than other places in the area, but their prices for tailoring services are definitely cheaper than most. I’ve had a few minor alterations done here (hemming, shortening straps, sleeves, etc.) and they’ve done a good job on everything.

I have been going to Empire Cleaners for over 20 years. They are now accepting credit cards, not cash only. It is one of the few cleaners in the city that do work on the premises, so same day service is available as long as you take your clothes before noon. I have seen some customers being very rude to the owners, so I don’t blame them for telling some of them not to come back (as one of the reviewers commented). For anything, I believe people have the right to complain (and the owners would be happy to correct as opposed to losing a customer) but it needs to be done respectfully, not as if they are talking to low class servants! I drop my clothes off from NJ on my way to work and pick them up on my way home, while one of the people there are watching my car (so I won’t get a ticket!). All in all, the best!

This has been my go to spot for the past three years. I get all of my suits/​dress shirts done here. Never had an issue and they are always friendly and polite!

I have been going to Empire for the past 6 years as my regular dry cleaner and I have had multiple tailoring and alteration jobs done by them including 2 blue jean tapers, 1 blue jean hem, 2 button-​down shirt alterations, letting out a pair of old tuxedo pants and repairing rips and tears in slacks, shorts, and jeans.
Without exception, the work they do in both dry cleaning and repairs/​alterations is second to none. I trust them with anything I need done to items in my wardrobe in a heartbeat.
I have always been highly satisfied with their workmanship and attention to detail and the owners are efficient, friendly and remember my name, which is always a nice touch.
If you are in the neighborhood (and even if you’re not), I highly recommend this place!

I bring all my clothes to this place for over 15 years, even though I moved to New Jersey 7 years ago. The owners have had this business for over 20 years, know everyone by name, and the service is always great. I tried to use one of the cleaners near my house, but not only the clothes did not come as nice and clean, it also cost me about 30% more than at Empire cleaners. So, I dont mind paying cash nor having my husband drop off the clothes in the cleaners on his commute to NY, given the quality and value I am getting. Of note, I read some of the bad reviews they received. I did notice that they might not be as nice to some people (after all, i’ve been going there for 15+ years!), but most of the times, it was well deserved! I witnessed several instances where people would talk down to the them, and let me tell you, their English is good enough to shove it right back to you. They are also very generous, to the point of letting me take my clothes and having me pay later when I forgot my wallet. I am a customer for life as long as i dont have to take a plane to take my clothes there!

Got 3 blazers tailored here — quality was great, as good as any of the fancy tailors in the LES and much cheaper. Turnaround time was fast, around 3 days. People there are friendly. Only downside would be cash only but I feel like that happens a lot at tailors /​cleaners.

I asked for a dry cleaning service. They washed six of my silk shirts and a very nice dress skirt! Not only does my silk now feel like wood, but the thread on ALL of the top have been unraveled. For each $ 80 silk top to be ruined after one time of wear is devastating. If this is what you do for a living, you should know better. I am horribly upset.

DO NOT USE THE TAILOR! Their dry cleaning/​laundry service was pretty standard and I had used it several times. This time I went in to get a new shirt altered. I brought them an old shirt that fits me well and asked them to bring the new one in line with the old one. The lady at the counter quoted me a price and said there was no need to do any measurements. She spoke broken English, but it seemed clear to me at the time that there wouldn’t be any issues. I came back a week later to find that the sleeves on my new shirt were a good 2 INCHES LONGER than the old one. When i complained, they tried to UPSELL a sleeve alteration, claiming that I had only paid for a taper job, which was hardly necessary in the first place. These guys have LITTLE INTEREST IN THE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE, and they only take cash, so I had to eat the charge. My advice would be to go to a real tailor that actually cares about his reputation, takes credit card, and can communicate in better English!

I was very happy with the service I received here. I had my laundry done about once a week during my summer in New York. It was often done the same day, if I dropped it off before work. The family working there is very friendly and I never had a problem. Things were neatly folded and I never noticed anything missing. I would have loved it if they were also open on Sunday. Cash only.

Needed 3 different jobs done on 3 pairs of suit pants: hem lengthening, letting out the waist after another tailor took it in a bit too far, and a non-​seam tear right on the seat. All 3 pants came back beautifully done. Straight hems, perfect amount of give in the waist, and barely visible stitching on the tear, which is quite the accomplishment given the awkward location of the damage. $ 41 all in, cash only, which is far more inexpensive than you’d find at many other places in the neighborhood, with no apparent sacrifice of quality. My new neighborhood tailor!

Clothes were cleaned fine, but CASH ONLY is not acceptable. Delivery available? Only if you spend $ 30 or more. There are better customer service-​oriented cleaners around.

Ah, the catch of being short – you may get good sales prices on XS sizes, but you have to alter everything. That bill alone is a fortune if you have Mint tally it up after one year (I try not to look). Anyway, this is one of the most reasonable quotes for alterations I’ve gotten in this city. After being pleased with the service but shocked at the pricing at Alterations Master I dropped by this place on my way home to see what they would charge for a simple sleeve hem of my latest (and gorgeous!) light wool boyfriend blazer from J. Crew.
Just $ 22! Granted, that’s more expensive than what I’ve been used to paying at my favorite alterations lady in Seattle but that’s also much less than the $ 38, $ 48, and $ 50 quotes I’ve gotten in NY. The turnaround time is fast — about a day — and they did a good job. I mean, it’s a sleeve hem so it’s pretty hard to mess up.
Anyway I’m pleased and I’ll be coming back for my (many) alterations needs.

They do at least their «laundry» offsite, but I believe they do their DC onsite.
Very friendly, know me by name at this point after 2.5 years… Never have had a complaint. The prices are fair as well.
