My friends wanted to have hotpot and I wanted some BBQ so we came here.
Funny BBQ does not take reservation for small parties so we came in early. In my opinion, the squid skewer was the best — flavorful and chewy (the others were a bit overcooked). Hotpot was mediocre and was not as good as hometown BBQ.

Great service. Servers are nice, they will ask you if you want water or tea when you sit down, it’s great for such a cold weather now. I like the food here. It’s one of the best place to go for BBQ and hotpot. (Even tho it’s not all you can eat hotpot) but the soup base is really good.

This is popular place!!! I love this place and the food is so delicious. The service so great because the day I went to the Funny BBQ is so cold, when I just set down the service bring hot tea for me it makes feel better.

I am from Sichuan and this might be the most authentic flavor I could find in Manhattan. The location is convenient, good for hanging out after work. Food is fresh and serves fast. I would recommend non-​Sichuan people this place if they want to experience the ambience.

Good service! Really nice waiters and waitresses m:) They have BBQ, hotpot and grilled whole fish. And I like BBQ most! My recommendations/​favorites: Ginkgo, Honey Wing, Bacon with mushroom, Whole Eggplant. Braised fresh fish with preserved vegetable and ice rice are also highly recommended. You can choose how spicy you want. They also have karaōke downstairs; you can eat and sing simultaneously lol

I really enjoy both the dine in and take away experiences from Funny BBQ 98. It is THE place to try authentic modern version of Chinese food. The staff are very friendly, and you can even charge your phone with their power station for most tables. I recommend their hotpot and grills to foodies who love Asian food

The service is horrible! They don’t remember what you ordered and were very impatient about you reordering sth else. The food was bad too. The meat were so raw, they don’t even check whether the foods are done before bringing it to you. The boss was trying to rudely persuade us to pay cash. Anyway, really really once and never again…

Not worth it for hot pot. The ala carte items are not worth the price. 50cents for vegetable items like a fried tofu skin. I checked Unilocal and it confirmed what we were experiencing — lack of service, inadequately priced ala carte items per piece. I see that Unilocal has lots of bbq items — maybe thats the reason to come here but this place failed for us on hot pot & service.

Didn’t check Unilocal when coming here today. Only wanted to try some BBQ. This place feels like a ktv/​hotpot/​BBQ place. In my opinion the BBQ here is not that bad. Kind of expensive though and the service needs to improve.

Nothing really special but I feel comfortable with the ambience. Service is not bad but the kitchen food sucks badly especially the fried udon.
Grilled clams were too chewy. Only ate two, wasted 4. The condiments for hotpot is too limited. Messy self served counter top.
I liked the grilled quails & bacon wrapped with mushroom. Cheap beer though.

50cents for each skewer, i thought it would be 2 pieces or one normal size for every skewer, actually it was one small piece cut in half. Are you kidding me? One piece of potato for 50 cents? (i dropped it into soup, and it melted, couldn’t eat it, soooooo minuscule). Funny BBQ with this price, this portion, (40 bucks total for less than 10 bucks you can get from other restaurant), it’s not funny at all. It sucks!!!
