Brand new restaurant on the Upper East side with a long way to go. My girlfriend and I visited and were not only disappointed, but disgusted. Where do I start? First, the atmosphere and décor were drab, dark, and unwelcoming. We walked in the door and waited for a few minutes until someone finally came to seat us. We were one of only 3 tables at the restaurant at that time so you would assume snappy service. Hardly. My girlfriend immediately began to question the restaurant when she noticed that the entire menu was in Comic Sans and was filled with spelling mistakes. Including the name of the restaurant. We were a little uncertain of the Gyspy Salad… After sitting for 5 – 10 minutes the waiter brought us bread, Lebni sauce and water. The bread had obviously been sitting in a warmer all day because it was dry and fell apart when you touched it. The Lebni sauce was completely watered down and tasted like it came from a jar, but they forgot to mix it up. I uploaded pictures… Next came the Apple Ricotta Crostinis. They looked good, but we took one bite and realized the bread was burnt. Completely inedible. It took us 10 minutes to get the waiter’s attention to tell him they were burnt before he took them away. For our entrees we ordered the Chicken Kebab and«Gyspy» Salad. The salad was covered in cilantro and was completely overpowered. The Chicken Kebab wasn’t much of a kebab and was overcooked. The rice on the dish was cold, lumpy and dry. Just gross. We also ordered a side of garlic spinach. It was swimming in oil. Again, inedible. When the waiter finally came back to the table he asked us if we didn’t like the dishes. We said that we did not, and that we would just like the check, please. He snapped back and said«I asked you if you wanted anything else,» and walked away. Incredibly rude. To top off the experience the wait staff would just wander around the floor aimlessly ignoring the tables, but occasionally walking over to an empty table to ‘adjust’ the silverware. Unfortunate experience.
