This place is of a very good value and I still cannot figure out why their food is so cost-efficient. They also give a a soda if you spend more than 6 bucks.

This place is close to the trade towers, so I took a shot with a coworker. You walk in and see a small pre made sushi area up front and run a bunch of old caf style tables for seating(they call it a restaurant). On the main floor there are two areas, buffet and order from the menu. I suspect both have similar if not the same food, but I picked the buffet as my poison. And sadly, it was poison. Got here just before the lunch rush while the food was fresh, and looked tasty, but it was so lousy, I mean so bland and salty. I tried a little of basically all the chicken dishes and pork fried rice but it was really terrible. I kept thinking how this place had all the people in here, but you live and learn. Pass in this place.

5 stars for the food upstairs. 1 star for the food downstairs. I am very torn. The upstairs serves some delicious Chinese food. I went once and was VERY impressed by the food(the garlic shrimp was awesome). I quickly went back, but this time went to the hot bar downstairs. The food from downstairs was literally inedible(like I had to spit it out in the middle of chewing, that bad). I’m not sure what to think. I know for sure I won’t go to the basement hot bar ever again.

Probably one of he only legit Chinese food places in FiDi. You also have the option of American Chinese food, like chop suey, General Tso, etc., but I prefer the authentic dishes. If you prefer to mix and match they also have plates where you can mix and match. It gets very busy around lunch time, but don’t get intimidated.

I work in downtown and this is probably the only decent chinese place. They have authentic chinese dishes and also American chinese dishes. This place is popular during lunch hour, I try to go early. They also sell food by the pound if you want to try a little of everything.

I work in the area and this my go to for lunch when I’m in the mood for Chinese. Now the area is basically around Wall Street and the World Trade Memorial so the stores and food spots tend to be conceded with their prices. However, Ho Yip has decent average prices and the food is good. I have yet to get something that I didn’t like and the portions are pretty hefty. Plus you even have the option to utilize the buffet and make your own plate(pay by the pound) or you can keep it traditional and simply order your dish of choosing on the opposite side of the buffet. The service is to the point like any Chinese restaurants, the main thing is that they get you what you want. Also there plenty of seating, they have quite a few tables on the main floor and have additional seating upstairs. They offer delivery and they have daily specials. I heard it gets busy there but most times I go its 2pm or later and there’s no rush at all so depending on your plan, time your visit to what suits your needs.

I ordered 4 tray dish. The taste is good. I don’t suggest to order the shrimp with mixed vegetable, since it doesn’t have much shrimp though it costs $ 52 for a tray. Be attention this is not a regular one but for a tray usually it can be for several ppl General Tso’s chicken is very nice. We enjoy it very much. Beef with broccoli is fine too. So I suggest you can order this. Also the fried rice with meat and chicken is also good, I suggest that also. The only bad thing is that the customer service is really impatient and mad.

i work around this area and i have to say for the price of 6.75 or even 7 – 8 $ you are saving a whole lot around here!!! Decent chinese food here, very long place, alot of selection from sushi, serve yourself or order chinese dishes, noodles and rice. If you work around the area this is your to goto chinese store. They also do deliveries too. The guy is extremely nice and always quick with their deliveries! Thank you for being around the financial district and for your reasonable prices… so much better than paying $ 12 for a damn salad.

After 2pm, the buffet is discounted, and since there is a constant stream of tourists, the food keeps coming out fresh. The food, however, is incredibly salty, so I recommend sticking with vegetable-heavy dishes and also ordering a bottle of water.

I work in the area, so this is my go to spot for lunch everyday. First things first: This place gets VERY crowded during lunch. Between the buffet line and those waiting to order at the counter, it can sometimes feel like the 4 train during rush hour. For the most part though, everyone is curious to one another. The thing that impresses me most about the staff is their memory. Basically when you order at the counter; which is what I always do, you are shouting your order at the staff. They then pass it along to the kitchen via post-it note. There is no ticketing system or formal line. Even with dozens of people waiting for their order, scattered throughout the sea of lunch goers, the ladies behind the counter never forget who ordered what. Now for the food: this is an Americanized Chinese restaurant, but a very damn good one. The dishes here are your usual main staples when it comes to American Chinese food. I’ve probably tried almost everything on their menu and I’ll say that I’ve only had 1 maybe 2 dishes that I was not satisfied with, which out of over 40 is not bad! The dishes are cooked to order and the proportions are pretty good. Some of my favorite dishes are beef chow fun, Hunan chicken, fish with soft tofu and pepper steak. For FIDI prices, Ho Yip is very affordable.

I recently started working in the area and decided to try this place since it’s across the street from my office. Boy and I glad tried it! I have tried the noodle soups, food from the counter, and the buffet. You really can’t go wrong here! Everything that I have tried is tasty, fresh, and cheap! Lunches cost between $ 6 and $ 8. And I typically can’t even finish all of the food! I love how quick this is for lunch and will definitely be frequenting this place when I need a quick bite to eat! It does get a bit crowded during lunch time, but I’m always in and out in 5 – 10 minutes!

First time here. Good Chinese food in Financial district. I came here when it almost closing time. Lots of people come here to order. I tried the Thai Chicken string bean with white rice. The chicken was good. The string bean was very crispy. Overall good Chinese restaurant for lunch or dinner time. The cashiers were very efficient. They were fast with giving the customers back the change and getting the food. I will come back if I’m in this area.

The food here is just ok. You have the option of the buffet or ordering from the menu on the wall. It tends to get crowded and seating is limited, so don’t count on being able to sit, but the lines move fast. It’s a good spot for a quick, easy lunch if you’re not looking to do anything fancy. I wouldn’t recommend the dumplings(too doughy and oily), but the fried rice was decent.

This is a way better version of chinese take out type of restaurant! It is located close to the world trade center memorial. This place is big & they have lots of tables & chairs too if you wanna eat your food inside the restaurant. Came here a few times already mostly for lunch & they have a buffet for really cheap & decent price. Most of their food item on the menu range about $ 6-$ 8. Surprisingly its rare to find some cheap food that taste good in this neighborhood. They have some noodle soup for the same price range which taste good too. They do deliveries with $ 10 minimum. My favorite food is the salt & pepper pork chop with plain or pork fried rice for $ 7. I love hoyip! Fast delivery & good food! Always coming back!

Rating is 4 stars, but through an «American Chinese» lens, especially for their lunch buffet food. My coworker was craving some Chinese food and made me crave Chinese food too(not authentic Chinese, but Americanized Chinese dishes) so we went in search of Ho Yip. Ho Yip is your typical Chinese buffet lunch place that serves Chinatown meats(roast big, bbq pork, Peking duck, etc), made to order stir fry dishes, and noodle soups. I usually get myself a rice dish or a noodle soup, but I actually went for the buffet this time, which I haven’t done in years. For under $ 10, I got myself a nice assortment of various meats and vegetables ranging from sesame chicken to sautéed mushrooms. All of it was fairly fresh and it was a pretty fillin g and satisfying meal without being too heavy. I would recommend the sautéed mushrooms, stir fried noodles, fried chicken wings, and fried pork. All were very flavorful. Good place for a quick takeout lunch that doesn’t get boring while you’re eating because there are so many options you can choose from.

Excellent chinese lunch place in FiDi with great variety and the menu changes daily. I find the rice sets(typically $ 8) to be more authentic than the buffet items. There are soup noodles too made to order, mediocre but I might want it on a cold winter day. Expect the food to be somewhat salty. Hippy healthy organic eaters please go somewhere else.

Love this authentic Asian cuisine spot located in the heart of the financial center in downown Manhattan. Food is served buffet style and opposite to the buffet they have a make your own soup station«Chinatown Style». Offerings include chicken, beef teriyaki, shrimp cakes, all sorts of fried rice, orange chicken, bbq pork, etc. Food is fresh, authentic. All items served by the weight, however, two people, with abundant food in their container, no exclusions, $ 26.00

JUSTDOIT! This place rules! So glad it’s only 1 stop from my house because this place has some of the best American Chinese food in town! It’s a counter service & buffet style restaurant, which does a great deal of lunch business from locals that work in FIDI. Only occasionally will you see a tourist in this place. So what’s so amazing about Ho Yip? Well, first off, everything they servce is just mouthwatering! You really can’t go wrong with any of their menu selections. Some stand outs for me include the salt & pepper chicken(OMG), the lo mein, and the ho mein fun(flat noodle). If I have time, I order from the counter, where they make my meal on the spot. If I’m in a hurry, I hit up the buffet, which is always fresh and tasty! As for atmosphere, this place is very basic… so maybe you wouldn’t come here on a date or for an important event. However, if you’re looking for a quick, simple lunch place, then you’ve come to the right place!

Regular good food, specially good for the price. On this neighborhood, you can’t get anything better. The place is not pretty at all, but that is the least important part of it, as it focus on the food, which is good.

Note to self: stop listening to that friend that considers Ho Yip«good Chinese food». Top reasons I did not like this place reasons: They did not indicate that the fried rice has pork. I don’t eat pork. Food was average tasting, nothing to write home about but I will write it here on Unilocal. The forks are tiny. Yes, when I’m hungry I prefer a shovel. They are not attentive to customers, move too fast and make errors. The main reason… Drumroll please… On site recycling. Ewww! I watched a woman separate the trash, extracting bowls and plastic bags which they will provide your food on when YOU decide to go. Hope they don’t also recycle food.
