Ordered a turkey sandwich that was supposed to have roasted peppers and avocado on it, waited for 10 minutes, and then back at work opened the sandwich and found out it was just some turkey and cheese on bread, NO roasted peppers, NO avocado, tasted extremely blend. I could’ve gotten a sandwich like that for half the price anywhere else. Very disappointing.

So the breads alone are a reason to go here. The simit is kind of like a Turkish bagel, with a crispy crust covered in sesame seeds. It is perfect for breakfast or lunch to go. A welcome addition to the NYU area that does not have many interesting lunch options.

The products are okay, but the service is terrible. I went in to get a coffee at 445 on a Sunday a few weeks ago. The woman that was working sighed at me and looked at her watch and then sighed again. I guess they don’t like to sell anything 15 minutes before they close. When I said never mind she was more than happy to see me go.

The name was deceiving — I thought it was a Turkish bakery. Instead — it is a hole in the wall with just a couple of pastries. Certainly not a destination.

The food and coffee are mediocre(the bread is particularly good though) and it’s affordable but every employee I have encountered here has been unpleasant. There are other places in the Village to go to with comparable food without the rude employees. They really need to work on customer service if they want to gain regulars.

This place’s coffee tastes amazing. And their simits, pastries and sandwiches are all great as well and very affordable price on top. But you’re wondering why I’m giving them a one star. Their employees are terrible. Not only rude and short with customers but incompetent. I was willing to overlook the employees for such great coffee and food. However, the other day I was over charged for my order. I told the worker that I got a different item than the one printed on my receipt. She told me not to worry about it, since the item that I wanted and the one she printed on the receipt were the same price. They were NOT the same price. She overcharged me for a couple of dollars. Fine. Not that big of a amount anyway. But I was still bothered and found my receipt from the day before of the exact same order. I brought both receipts upto her and politely asked her to fix it. She was extremely bothered that I caught her on what she has done. She took my card, swiped it, gave me another piece of paper with some charges on it. I asked her what this was, and she told me that she gave me a refund on my coffee and just charged me for the pastry. Later on, I checked my bank statement but found out that I got charged AGAIN for the pastry. So in total, I paid for two pastries and a different huge drink, and got a pastry and a small drink that I actually wanted. There needs to be some serious improvement on customer service at this place. It’s such a shame. Yea, I’m not happy about the extra five dollars I got charged for absolute NOTHING, but I’m also very unhappy about the fact that the employee tricked me and lied to me even when I tried to figure out what was going on. I really hope this grabs the mangers attention so the manager can do anything to improve this café.

I absolutely love Simit & Smith, and go here a ridiculous amount of times. First, the breads are all freshly made and are delicious. When I’m feeling soup and grilled cheese I come here and get a Simit loaf with kasseri cheese(do it). Their soups change out and sometimes they don’t even have any at all, which is annoying, but I love this place too much to complain.

Red velvet pound cake was absolutely divine!!! Great alternative to Oren’s or Starbucks with their typically long lines. Great proximity to NYU and the train in the morning

This place is delicious! The simits(round bagel-like bread) sandwich with tomatoes and tapenade was super refreshing.

I guess $ 2.99 was a deal for the breakfast sandwich. The bread alone is $ 1.75.

Overall Review: Poor customer service & food was just ok. My friend and I saw this place as we were on lunch and wanted to try it out. Upon entering I was greeted with a rude«Wait we can only do one thing at a time» as the two employees were fidgeting with the cash register. When I ordered an item off the menu I was answered with a sassy«We’re out of that today.» My friend who turned around to leave was surprised when I hesitantly ordered another item off the menu. We sat down and commented on the lack of customer service and organization. How were they going to remember who ordered what? Then we heard: «TUNASANDWICH?» Two people stood up. «NOTYOU… YOU», «TOGOORTOSTAY? TOGOORTOSTAY?» In the meantime, we saw someone waiting in line walk out. My [canned] tuna sandwich was just alright; not good enough to justify the customer service(or lack thereof). My friend and I both agreed that the only reason we’d come back is to try the spinach/artichoke dip. PS: The one star is for the free small bottle of water included in my lunch special.

This place is a nice addition to the area! I’ve been in once so far and I grabbed a few things for lunch. The spinach gozleme were a clear winner, very large for a little over $ 4. I coupled a one of those with the tomato soup and it was more than enough food and reasonably priced. I also ordered a panini with tomato and pesto(I guess I thought I was really hungry) which was pretty good. I’ve not been in for breakfast but I would definitely recommend the gozleme and soup for anyone looking for a quick lunch. I will say that my coworker has been in several times and found that when she went in the afternoon, they were often out of things she wanted, mainly salads. Not sure if that is still the case.

I’m pretty obsessed with this wonderful little establishment. It helps that the prices are really fair and that it’s conveniently located across the street from my office. Their breakfast sandwich + coffee combo($ 4) is my go to, and I get it at least once a week. I can’t begin to describe how perfect this sandwich is. It’s a nice fluffy egg and REAL melty cheese, definitely a step up from American. The best part though is the bread it’s served on– impossibly buttery and flakey, very similar to a croissant. I’ve heard you can add lettuce and tomato or a meat option, but I really think the sandwich is perfect as is. The coffee is good too. Seating is a bit tight, but it’s actually pretty cozy. Besides tables, there are two bars you can sit at. I haven’t seen it super crowded yet, though the line gets a bit long at lunch time as they’re making most items when you order. What really makes this five stars in my opinion though is the service– the staff is helpful, friendly, and cheerful!

I got a sesame simit and a pogacha that was supposed to have feta and parsley in it. The dough was tasty, but there was at most a teaspoon’s worth of feta and no parsley inside. That’s fine, though – the simit was great, so I’ll be back.
