This place SMELLSTERRIBLE. Like a sewage pipe backedup. I went to try the Korean place in the stripmall but they were closed. I was excited to find the Eggroll Hut. There was NOWAY I was going to sit down and eat here, the small would make me vomit. But hey, it’s all fried foods, how can I go wrong? I was recommended the Lechon Kawali — damn, it was pure fat. Like 90% Fat and 10% Pork. I went hungry. I didnt eat the fat. I seriously thought I would have a heart attack. I ate in my car btw, because the stench in the restaurant was terrible. In hindsight, I should have tried the Lumpia, it IS called the Eggroll Hut… But I have a feeling I won’t be coming back.

Being from San Diego… I grew up on filipino food and was soooo relieved when I found this place. It’s not exactly the same but definitely fills that void. The garlic fried rice is to die for. If you’re not a garlic fanatic… i would stay away from this dish. The pancit was also on point. The egg rolls and bbq chicken were decent. I would have given this place a 4 but the bubble tea is horrible. Like a dummy I ordered this item on 3 different occasions and everytime. the tapioca was either stale or over cooked. The prices are great! They have combos for as low as $ 4.95& most of the other dishes are under $ 10. These hole in the wall joints are always the best.

Filipino food in tiny Korean Town of Newport News! I was craving me some good ol’ fashion Pinoy food after reading about this through the Unilocal weekly newsletter so I had to check it out. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s only 8−10mins away from work. The place is on Colony and Warwick in the same shopping center as the International E-Mart store. It’s the last one in the shops right next to the Laundry Mat. Parking is and I would assume, never, an issue with the large parking lot. It’s small and from what I gather, used to be a Chinese takeout spot. They replaced the menu with some printed pictures of Filipino food and just taped them above the. The Auntie working there spoke with a heavy accent but speaks perfect English. Most single item combos or food is under $ 10 so it was pretty darn cheap. The food does take a bit to prepare. Especially the BBQs since they grill it when it’s ordered versus having it all sitting there and heating it. So everything was served in a takeout styrofoam box with a small dipping sauce for the egg roll. I ordered the Sampler since it had a little bit of everything in it. I opted for pancit vs rice with my combo. They didn’t label the egg rolls so I ended up getting my coworkers pork egg roll instead of the shrimp one I had ordered. No biggie though, since I wasn’t too picky about it. For a place that’s called«Eggroll Hut» you’d think that the best food on that sampler would be the egg roll, but it was mediocre. The egg wrap was perfect but the content was lacking. The meat felt unseasoned to me. However, the rest of the food on that platter was pretty tasty. The pancit was moist and well seasoned with all the veggie toppings. It wasn’t too oily or salty at all. The BBQ was pretty close to the BBQ i was used to growing up. Had they marinated the pork longer, I think it would’ve turned out better. But again, it was pretty close to me so it was good regardless. The chicken adobo was alright. It wasn’t the greatest, and there were lots of little bone particles in the soup, making it harder to eat. I’m also used to a more soy sauce based adobo. Overall, it was a good cheap lunch! I’ll go back for some of their Bubble Tea and Halo Halo and update this then.

Finally had the time to come here. I was excited to know that there was a Filipino restaurant nearby by here. It’s still slowly building up but overall I’m happy with the outcome with the food. They had specials for the day which consisted of some famous Filipino food such as tinola, lechon kawali, crispy pata, dinuguan, fried tilapia, etc. I ordered the Pinoy sampler and as soon as I opened that container the smell reminded me as though I was in my moms kitchen bringing back child hood memories. The smell of garlic fried rice, adobo, and BBQ. I just wish there was pictures for the people who don’t know traditional Filipino dishes but I have high hopes for this place. Great service and friendly staff.
