Couldn’t pass up the opportunity to try Cupcake Charlie’s during a recent visit to Newport. Once inside we bought several to bring back to the hotel and share with others. The Oreo Delight and Chocolate Luvs Vanilla were the biggest hits, but the Chocolate Overload and Grammy’s Carrot Top were tasty too. Oh, and don’t forget the frosting shots!!! Those were a huge hit too!

I was visiting from out of town and decided to try this bakery. Great selection, cupcakes all looked fancy. Cupcake selected was VERY sweet but delicious. A bit pricey.

I love cupcakes. They are my favorite dessert to have when I indulge. I came here yesterday and have to say that I’m not at all a tough critic, but I am definitely disappointed in a couple of things. 1– There were only 4 flavors of cupcake to choose from. When all you do is make cupcakes, you should have more that only 4 flavors. For $ 3-$ 4/cupcake, I expect more options, I’m sorry. 2– Cupcake was good, but too sweet, and extremely heavy. Mind you, this was the basic chocolate cupcake with vanilla frosting since I didn’t have a ton of options. 3– I was standing outside talking to some people after I purchased 6 cupcakes from them. A young girl who works here comes outside the store and proceeds to yell at us for standing«in the way of the door». She stated that we were«disrupting» their customers and their business. I found that to be very rude, unprofessional, and unnecessary. If I could have, I would have retuned my cupcakes right then and there. How about RUDESERVERS«disrupting» their business? Then again, it’s hard to tell if this girl was even old enough to legally work in the US so perhaps she was unaware of what manners and customer service are as of yet. Apparently part of the experience of eating a cupcake here should not include hanging around(not even ON Cupcake Charlie’s property) once you have given them business and too much of your hard-earned money for some over-priced, overly sweet cupcakes. I won’t be going back.

Cupcake Charlie’s is on Thames street in newport. It seems like a popular place and competed on Cupcake Wars so I was excited to try it out. I tried the lemon drop cupcake, which is one of their specialities. The cake was good, moist and light but the frosting was too sweet and artificial tasting. The lemon filling was the same, diabetes inducing sweet with an artificial flavor aftertaste. So overpowering in its sweetness that I couldn’t even finish the cupcake. They are on the right path with their cake. It’s the frosting and filling that need work if they want to compete with the likes of Georgetown cupcakes.

Absolutely delicious!!! My husband and I were on vacation last week in Newport, and saw this cupcake shop. I have a weakness for sweets so I had to check it out. I got the Lemon Drop cupcake and it was the best cupcake I have ever had!!! It was a yummy lemon cupcake with lemon filling and a heaping amount of icing! I saw another shop when we went up to Boston, and had to get another one:)

I LOVELOVELOVE vanilla cupcakes with good vanilla frosting. This place is out of the ballpark with their vanilla cupcakes, and to complete the perfection, has something called«Frosting shots,» an extra dollop of frosting in a take out dish! Excellent flavor of vanilla, sugar, and butter with just a touch of flour to give it substance. Tastes more like cooky dough, but less flour than that. Wish they were closer to my home!

Love love love this place. I only wish they had boston cream pie flavor when I came in. Staff was extremely nice and gave suggestions on what to buy. Also excited to see they were on cupcake wars! Can’t wait to go back again.

Beautiful cupcakes, lots of interesting flavor combos as well as classics, LOVE their frosting, nice staff. For $ 3.50 a pop, I only wish the cupcakes weren’t on the drier side. I’ve been two separate times and both times the actual cake part of the cupcake wasn’t very moist. Other reviewers seem to have better luck so I’ll try again!

OK. So yes they are expensive. Let’s get that out of the way. They are like $ 3.50 each, pretty insane for a cupcake. These are meant to be eaten by the dozen or daily. Great splurge item, do it. Comoooon. Do it. Hostess was great, Oreo and mounds also good too. Need to try more

Cupcakes coffee and t-shirts Cupcake Charlie’s is a small cupcake type of place located right smack in the middle of Newport. The bright and whimsical sign makes it difficult to walk by without at least a cursory look. These fancy cupcake joints have become quite popular in the last few years and all kinds of creative and bizarre flavors have been developed. I don’t know a whole lot about fancy cup cakes and when I hear the word I still think of Hostess. But I have to admit that the selection of the different and unusual cup cakes was enticing and the ones we bought we quite delicious. Of course the prices reflect the quality of the cup cakes but that’s to be expected. The small store is pleasant and you can sit inside on stools or small tables. Besides the cup cakes you can get coffee type drinks and even a crummy t-shirt or two if you desire. Even though they have a cup cake called Hostess, this is definitely not anything like the cup cakes named Hostess that I use to eat as a kid. Cup cakes have grown up and have become far more sophisticated. I’m not sure if that is a good thing or not.

Good cupcakes topped with good frostings from a shop located perfectly in the heart of Newport. With pleasant servers and cases stocked full of these tasty confections, Cupcake Charlie’s is a nice place to go to satisfy your sweet cravings! My friend and I got four cupcakes – two Red Velvets, a Chocolate Luvs Vanilla(chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream), and a Chocolate Chip. Each cake was flavorful and moist. They were the perfect amount of sweetness. The prices are on the expensive side. The cupcakes are good, but not for the price. Our server was friendly and efficient; she was patient while we picked our flavors and told us which cupcakes had fillings and which didn’t. The shop, though a bit on the smaller side, was clean and held a couple of tables to sit and enjoy the treats served. The smells emanating from the kitchen – which flow out the door when it’s opened – are wonderful! We’ll definitely be back to Cupcake Charlie’s, whether it’s here in Newport or in the several other locations around southeastern Massachusetts and the Cape!

Dropped into this place while walking along Brick Alley. Cute little joint, although I would like to point out that it’s the end of January. This is their off season. They’re only open on the weekends, thus the cupcake variety is much smaller. As I really wanted to have some skim milk to go along with my delicious cake, they do not keep any, for it would go bad. I indulged in their chocolate«Hostess with the Mostess.» It was divine! Ugh should have gotten more! But… they were $ 3 a piece and at that price, well one will just have to suffice. As a side note, I really appreciated that this cupcake didn’t have any frosting. My friend got the peanut butter one. Can’t quite remember the cute name for it, but she didn’t like it as much. She said the cake itself was moist but that there wasn’t anything special about it and that it wasn’t actually peanut buttery. The icing was lacking a lot of flavor as well. I got my gf the red velvet cake as a surprise. She loves red velvet cake. She said hers was very moist, but very rich and sweet, not in a bad way. The eating area is rather small, not meant for lingering, more-so to-go. I can’t imagine how busy they get during the spring/summer season! Overall very cute. Very moist cake. At $ 3 a piece, I’d say this is more of an occasional treat. Really wished there was a banana cream one. That would have been awesome! If I ever am in the area, I’d go again for the Hostess!!!
