More than pretzels I don’t know much about pretzels and have no idea how authentic or exactly what’s in these pretzels but they are pretty tasty. I doubt if there are particular healthy but I doubt if most people think of any pretzels as health food. Besides pretzels the small store also has cookies. These are definitely not healthy but they taste and smell realllllly good and just the thing to munch on while walking around Newport. Actually the reason we usually stop here are the smoothies. Several different types and always refreshing, you can suck them down while sitting at one the several tables by the side of the store. A great location to watch the hordes of people drift by on Thames Street in the summer. Newport Pretzel is a bit pricey but then everything in Newport is and like lots of places in The City by the Sea, Newport Pretzel has just gone into hibernation for the winter. So if you want a pretzel, cookie or smoothie in Newport you are just going to have to wait till spring.

Read the full review, because it’s a matter of opinion! I am a pretzel purist. Whenever I’m in a German area, like Pennsylvania or the Hudson Valley I will go to a pretzel stand or beer hall and have a dark, malty, salty delicious pretzel with spicy mustard. This is not that type of pretzel. On the sweet side, with a strong buttery(not real butter?) flavor, these are more akin to the chain store pretzels(you know the ones). Is that’s your thing, you may like this. But if you’re looking for an authentic pretzel, it may not be the one for you.

When I was visiting Newport last week I stumbled upon a phenomenal homemade pretzel shop called Newport Pretzel Company. Not only was it the cleanest store that I’ve seen in a long time but the pretzels were outstanding along with a variety of fresh frozen drinks and the friendliest staff around. It’s located on lower Thame street right past the Pnkberry Yogurt shop. This is a must try and you will be pleasantly surprised!!!
