We’ve taken multiple courses from Rob Swain Sailing School — from day trips to live-aboards, and in both the BVI and RI locations. They were fantastic, and able to cater to our varied levels of experience(I was a novice, and my husband was intermediate). Very patient and made learning a fun experience. We got hit with some high seas, but it only helped us learn what to do when the weather gets rough, which is invaluable. We made lot of fantastic memories, friends, and gained a huge skill set. I highly recommend them.

We completed our Captains training with Rob Swain in Tortola. We had such a great time. Rory was fun, informative and knowledgable. Great experience and great staff. We had some rough seas and learned so much about sailing.

My wife and I have sailed 3 times with Swain Sailing. Twice in the British Virgin Islands and once out of Newport, Rhode Island. All 3 experiences have been outstanding. We have found the owners Rob and Gina to be extremely nice and very service oriented. The first sail in the BVI was a week long US Sailing certification course for(Basic Keelboat, Basic Cruising, Bareboat Crusing). Instructors were knowledgeable and extremely nice. After a week of intense learning and fun, we left confident that we could take a boat out by ourselves. The subsequent trips in the Virgin Islands and New England were wonderful. No issues with the planning or the boats. Hoping to do the Passage Making certification course with them next year on one of the runs from Newport to Tortolla. I would very much recommend Swain Sailing. No boat issues, great service, great locations. The boats are a few years old but then you’re not paying the big company rates to have a 2 month old boat.

We had a disastrous experience with this company. We chartered a boat from them in the British Virgin Islands. They had poor and difficult communication during the rental process. They did not give us the boat we signed up for in our contract and the boat they gave us was too big for just the two of us to sail. Then they gave us a bad instructor who took us into an area with rough seas and set us up for trouble our first night. Our dinghy was stolen and they had no replacement for us and told us it was ok to sail without a dinghy, meaning we could not get off our boat. Then my husband became ill and we had to abandon the charter early. They were so nasty and rude even though they were paid in full. It was one of the worst experiences of my life.
