Don’t think this is a sandwich place you can pop in for a quick lunch– it takes about as long as a nice meal to be served. Also, every time we’ve been they run out of things. First it was burgers, today is was turkey. I had a bland sandwich today that didn’t have half the things on it that the menu said it did and I waited a half hour for it. There has to be a better place to get a sandwich in the area!

I miss working in town and ordering the shop for lunch. The pulled pork is some of the best I have had in Rhode Island– and coming from the South that means something. So glad you guys are around!

Stopped in for a lunch with my other half. Completely blown away by the freshness, quality and service. The gents who own this place are clearly passionate about their restaurant, and it is evident in all aspects. Highly recommend to anyone! PS –the Chicken Caesar wrap is exquisite!

The food is just soooo gooood, guys. Portions are big, if you grab a turkey pesto wrap you won’t know how to fit your face around it. Burger buns are toasted perfectly, makes me hungry just thinking about it, and they have vegetarian options as well! And soda in glass bottles which I just think is freaking awesome and quaint and s’cuuute. Owners are awesome and always thinking of new ways to make the place better. Head chef has tons of experience in food. Also told that they also offer student & military discounts too! Small space, but filled with a lot of good stuff.

We split the Reuben and a bowl of clam chowder, both were incredible! Limited menu, but what they have is out of this world. We will definitely be back!

I’m talking about a slammin burger here! While we were eating though, we overheard the cashier telling some customers that they were out of hamburgers and one of the other foods. That was weird. We must have lucked out and got the last digs!

Before our anniversary trip up to Newport, I turned to Unilocal to see if any new restaurants opened up since our previous visit. I found The Shop with incredible reviews. So, of course the hubby and I needed to check it out. The Shop is a cute, little sandwich shop right in the heart of Newport on Thames Street. It’s located at the end of a little strip mall. As with most restaurants in this area, parking is hard to come by. We walked over from our B&B. After reading the reviews, I had a hankering for the Fish Taco and Crab Cake Sliders. When in Newport, eat seafood. To my disappointment, the Chalkboard menu said that they were out of the Fish Taco, Lamb Gyro, and Pulled Pork during our visit. Ordering the Crab Cake Sliders was a no brainer, but now we had to go back to the drawing board to figure out a second dish to share. We settled on the Chicken Caesar Wrap(bacon on the side since hubby is not a fan). We grabbed a seat at a table and our food was brought over to us. Both sandwiches looked amazing! And they tasted just as amazing as they looked. The Crab Cake Sliders stole the show for me, fresh, flavorful, and unique(topped with veggie slaw and house remoulade). I wasn’t expecting much from a chicken wrap. I mean, who goes to Newport for poultry? But the chicken was juicy and tender and the wrap was delicious. The Shop truly impressed me. I look forward to many return visits on our future trips to Newport.

Stopped in here for some lunch while walking the shops down on the waterfront. It was a little chilly and a cup of chowder sounded good. Well, not only was the clam chowder good… it may have been the best I’ve ever had! I had a cup of it and the Shop Burger. The burger came loaded with fresh ingredients and was cooked perfectly! I would come back here anytime I’m in town and would recommend it to anyone!

The guys here provide great service and are very friendly. Easy spot to go to for lunch. You order at the counter and the staff will bring it to your table. Really laid back environment. Had the shop burger and it was really satisfying. My friends had the Ruby I believe and they all said it was outstanding.

nothing too special. the mushroom Swiss burger was good. juicy and high quality meat. not a great deal of flavor however as it lacked salt and any spices. the turkey pesto however was on the salty side. the kid’s chicken sandwich was very dry and tasteless if you don’t get sauce on it. overall, this place uses good ingredients but there is really not too much emphasis on flavor from what I sampled. I most likely would give another restaurant a chance next time I am around the area.

Truly a hidden gem! Awesome sandwiches; you won’t find better than what’s offered here for the price and the service. Had the«Shop» burger while others had the BLT, cheeseburger, and crab cake sandwiches… All were flavorful, with fresh ingredients, and each had their own, unique bun/bread…not one was the same and all were quite tasty… Coming from California, I am a die-hard In-N-Out aficionado, but their Shop Burger was astoundingly good enough for me to forget about a Double Double… never thought I’d have such sacrilegious sentiments, but their food was that good. The staff was very attentive and checked on us, and the chef inquired about how the food was and asked if we there was anything else he could have done to make the experience better. Go check it out, you are definitely missing out!

Awesome food. Quick service. I was surprised when the Crabcake sandwiches came out because it looked like something you’d get at a high end bar/pub. My wife is a vegetarian so she got a veggie wrap and I ended up finishing it it was so good.

Awesome sandwich shop! A great place to grab a quick lunch and have some very tasty food. The pulled pork sandwich is outstanding. My wife and I also tried the turkey pesto wrap, which was excellent. The counter staff is friendly and helpful. The prices are very reasonable. I will definitely be returning to this establishment.

Great find in the heart of downtown Newport, right on Thames Street. The Shop is a small deli type shop with seating to eat inside. They make a variety of sandwiches and offer a cozy environment to relax and enjoy the food. Very much a modern style deli. I had the pulled pork sandwich which came topped with cole slaw. Sandwich was very good. The pulled pork was cooked well and the slaw was very good. That’s always a great mix in my opinion. The only thing that could have been slightly better is the BBQ sauce. Could have been a little bit sweeter with just a bit more bite. Otherwise, it was a great sandwich that also happens to be huge! You’re certainly getting your money’s worth. This is a great place to come for a non formal lunch. Good food, very laid back with tv’s and great view of Thames street. Staff is also very friendly and obviously passionate about their food. They’re a pretty new addition to the Newport scene, so get out and support them!

This hidden treasure is WELL worth the very short walk from downtown if you’re in the mood for some awesome sandwiches. I’ve had their gyro sandwich and their Hawaiian barbecue chicken sliders, and both blew my mind. Their homemade claim chowder is also a must-get. Some might say their menu is limited, but I’d rather go somewhere with fewer items done very well. This place also recently came under new ownership, and after talking to the owners, it sounds like they have some cool new ideas in the pipeline. Definitely looking forward to visiting next time I’m in town!

My friends and I happen to be in Newport this weekend for my bachelorette weekend. After our three hour drive, we finally arrived and were looking for somewhere to eat a nice light lunch! We came across The Shop, and it was delicious! I had the long bread with mushrooms and cheese. Some of the other dishes we ordered were, the crab cake sliders, the Reuben and the fish tacos! Everything was so fresh and the serving portions were perfect for lunch! Small little intimate place, very in expensive and super convenient! Must try!
