I had lunch on Wednesday, 12/23, with a friend. This was my first visit whereas my friend is good friends with the owners. We both had one of the Sushi Lunch Specials with Spicy Tuna(inside out maki), Tuna, Salmon, Hamachi, Oil Fish, Ebi and one other I forget. I thought all the offerings were high quality and the cut of fish was both artful and filling, no skimping on serving portions. The owners are very nice and attentive and, as the restaurant is very small, you are never«lost in the crowd» hoping to get the attention of someone. The lunch was prefaced with the heated, damp towels, appetizer of miso soup and finished with cut oranges and small slices of plain cheesecake. I will definitely go back when in the area. I’m looking forward to trying Oyako DonBuri as I haven’t had a good one in several years.

Solid sushi, good prices, and good service. It’s really easy to miss the turnoff as you fly by on Boylston, but if you miss it, take the time to snake around the backroads and make the proper turn; the food is worth it. Every roll we had was delicious. I’ve been to some sushi places where I thought something was off, even if I couldn’t quite name it. Here, everything is on. Side note: I really hope a future Mega Man game has Sushi Man as a boss.

Quite tasty, felt quite authentic. Went with a friend and we each got a miso soup, we got the fried tofu, and the sushi and maki for two. The soup was average(can’t go wrong with miso soup). The fried tofu appetizer was quite tasty. It came with 6 pieces of tofu and a tasty sauce(mildly sweet, quite interesting). The sushi and maki(the meat of our meal) were phenomenal. The plate came with a spicy tuna roll(very well done, not too saucy which is usually the case), a california roll(pretty standard), and an eel roll(quite tasty!) Our maki was an assortment including standard tuna/yellowfish/salmon/eel/squid, and more exciting scallop, clam, white tuna. It was all quite tasty and I’d definately go back. Price was reasonable for sushi(bill was about 70 bucks for the two of us not including tip) We got there right when it opened and were pretty much the only people there, though there seemed to be a good number of take out orders. Will definitely go back, intrigued to try their mung fish liver tray.

It’s a secret but wonderful restaurant. There’re not many people. But I can say they have the best ramen around Boston Area. Also, they offer Tako Yaki — wheat ball with octopus, which is my favorite. People there are really nice. Strongly Recommend!!!

If you really want to eat real Japanese sushi, but you don’t want to pay a lot of money, come to sushi man. The sushi man is a Japanese. He knows how to make a great sushi.

I have been going here for 15 years and get takeout from here at least once a month. Everyone loooooves food from this place. Their scallop maki(venus) is amazing. There is a review that says they put too much fish in the rolls. What does that even mean? The rolls have plenty of fish and flavor. The service is great — dont let the whole in the wall first impression fool ya! Monster roll, not on the menu, is also great and can feed an army. Great prices and great taste. Not to mention the owners who are always there and the lady is the sweetest. They go above and beyond to make their customers happy. Great lil place!

I was leery of this place because it’s not all fancy and modern. But someone told me it was good so I tried it. I loved it! We all loved it. Great food and selections. and wine! My local sushi place isn’t seeing me as often because I am always going here.

Best hole in the wall sushi joint I’ve been to! The portions are huge and so fresh. Great lunch specials. The lady who works the front is super sweet and has a great sense of humor.

I have been twice so far. As others have said, this place has awesome value — huge portions at affordable prices. Their unagi with rice is well worth it! Rolls are satisfying — certainly above average, and of surprising quality considering the value. The staff is very accommodating. I appreciated their attentiveness and recommendations. There were three people working there, and all three had interacted with our table at some point during the meal. Overall, above average sushi quality, at well above and beyond value — this is the highest food/price ratio I’ve seen in the Boston metro area so far!

This place is an awesome hole-in-the-wall. Their portions are HUGE and the fish is fresh and delicious. They have interesting specials, as well as ramen and rice bowls. Small selection of sake, beer, and wine. The restaurant itself is very small, and I came on a Sunday night and it was pretty empty. Perhaps it’s more of a takeout/delivery place but I liked the vibe nonetheless. Will come back!

This place is definitely a hidden gem. My boyfriend introduced me to this place and it may be our go to sushi place to get takeout now. Spicy tuna roll is MASSIVE! And delicious. They are very generous with their tuna in the spicy tuna! Always a roll I have to get every time I go to get sushi. Their udon is pretty good, seems like a standard udon. Tempura is yum. Back to the sushi, spider roll is just as big! Their soft shell crab is so good in the spider roll. The salmon and yellowtail sashimi is great and the pieces are big. Overall, great place! When we waited to get our takeout, they gave us tea while we waited. Pretty small place, not many people come in and sit and eat, but service is good. Parking is limited. But that’s why you take it home and enjoy it with the comfort of your home. And big pieces of sushi/sashimi!

Occasion: Dropped by this place after a trek to Chestnut Hill Mall Food: — Ankimo(Monkfish Liver) — $ 13 as of 4÷11÷2015. I was surprised they had this available and have always wanted to try. Definitely had a fishy flavor to it but was balanced with the ponzu sauce and ginger grated on top. I rubbed a little wasabi on top just to give it a bit more kick. The texture is a bit more delicate than duck liver(fois gras) so I was a bit more gentle when handling with chopsticks. As a first timer eating Ankimo, I thought it was delicious but since I have no other places to compare against, its very relative. As this was steamed, it did not have the nutty flavor you’d get from fois gras but instead you have a much stronger fish essence flavor. Service: — The sushi chef definitely speaks Japanese and serves your sushi right from the counter area. Very cozy. — The woman speaks Mandarin and tag teams with the other server with the customers Restaurant: — Small with a few tables and counter area. The parking is a bit tight as there is only about 10 spaces shared between them, a Chinese take out and another business.

Thanks to my friend and fellow Unilocaler, Yichuan C. for bringing me to Sushi Man! Excellent selection of sushi. The portion they give us for the price is very generous. Everything is super authentic! The servers are super friendly. They give us a warm towel to clean as we sit down. It’s a small place with a small parking lot, but the environment is really nice! This place definitely deserves more positive reviews and should be more known. I wish I could stay in Boston for a few more days to try their udon noodles and other rice dishes! A+++ food!!!

My number 1 stop to get sushi in Boston area. Tiny restaurant can seat no more than 20 people, but really like those Japanese restaurant in Tokyo, Japan. Has a great selection of sushi, both raw and cooked. There are two Sushi chefs, of whom one is Chinese and the other is Japanese. Both are very nice. Other than Sushi, they also serve ramen and rice bowl. Everything is freshly prepared. Provide hot towel and Japanese snake at the beginning and fresh fruit at the end. Parking is right outside. Highly recommend.

This place has a great traditional Japanese atmosphere and the girl serving us was very friendly and helpful. I had the salmon curry and it was a very large portion and great! There are a lot of cool specials listed in the place that aren’t listed on the take-out menu, so I suggest if you’re ordering takeout maybe going in and taking a look before ordering. A guy next to me ordered the Ramen and it looked great. Definitely getting that next time.

My go to place for sushi. I’ve eaten here probably 5−10x and have never been disappointed. It’s also convenient since it is only 10 – 15 minutes from West Roxbury. I’ve been to many other great sushi places in Boston with more aesthetically pleasing rolls, better restaurant décor but you can’t beat the prices here. The amount of fish that comes with the rolls is very generous and they do not overdo it with rice. My favorite is Sunset and I also like the Pikachu, Venus, Pink Lady, among others. The owners are also very nice. an adorable couple. The servers provide warm hand towels and complimentary edamame as an appetizer, as well as fruit for dessert. I recently moved to a different state and will definitely miss Sushi Man.
