I had read the reviews and went there not expecting the best. We were a party of 8. Molly our waitress was very knowledgeable of the entire menu from cocktails to desserts. I had the scallops, they were seared perfectly and melted in my mouth. The risotto was delicious. Other meals that were enjoyed, the lamb, steelhead trout, crab, hanger steak and the zuppa de pese. The presentation was beautiful. Desserts were tiramisu and lemon chello cake, they were the perfect end to a culinary experience. Everyone enjoyed their meals and plan on returning again.

My wife and I went to Filet on a Friday evening for our first time(and last). We arrived to find a half empty establishment with no hostess to be found. We stood there for 5 minutes with no one even acknowledging us. Over the next 5 minutes 2 additional couples arrived and they waited for the hostess as well. The hostess eventually showed up and acted like it was no big deal that she had made us all wait. She asked my wife and I if we had a reservation which we did not. Despite the fact that there were multiple tables available she said we would have to sit in the lounge area. She then asked the two other couples if they had reservations and they did not either-but she sat them in the main area right after she told us we would have to eat in the bar. I really did not care about the bar, but when they sat us in an empty lounge area-only one person even acknowledged us and that was the bartender who accidentally came to our table with the wrong order. My wife said we would like drinks as well, but she just laughed and left never to come back. We sat there for another 5 minutes being ignored and decided to leave. We put our coats on and as we were passing the hostess stand low and behold no one was there again. Horrible service, could not vouch for the food but it seemed overpriced based on my review of their menu. Stay away-this restaurant will not be a long term establishment. The hostess was pompous and rude and they obviously have no idea what it means to be a service oriented business.

We went early for dinner between 4:30 and 5 on a Saturday night this Fall. The restaurant was completely empty, but we were told they were too busy, and acted like they were doing us a favor to squeeze us in. We said no thanks, walked out, and were immediately seated in a bustling, popular restaurant in another part of town. It was a rather odd experience, and we won’t ever try to return.

Service was excellent apps great… Actually best clams casino ever. Really cool atmosphere and bar. HOWEVER similar to the other reviews the ribeyes were really underseasoned. I don’t use sakt and had to put salt on it. Asparagus was microwaved again with no seasoning. Angus much better for that.. We may go back eventually bet they just need to work out the kinks of the seasoning IF they actually read reviews and care. Reviews very similar on Unilocal.90% of restaurants fail because they don’t listen to consumers and think a chef can do marketing. My hunch they fail since they are not listening to the reviews. Net… go to Angus or Foundry for a great steak. If you just want mediocre good but great atmosphere give this a try.

What a charming little restaurant! I had the mussels for an appetizer and they were perfectly cooked with garlic and served with golden crustinies. My main dish was the duck, and it was the best I’ve had in a very long time. The breast meat was served in a light orange sauce and I ate it all. I was there on a night when there was music and the three piece band played a selection of blues, and light and classic rock. They kept the volume down to start and rocked out later in the evening, but the music was never too loud to be able to hold a conversation. What a fantastic evening!

Was recently passing through the Newtown area when we decided to stop at Filet for dinner. This place is a true gem. The menu is fresh and interesting but I can assure you it’s even better when the food arrives. The Asiago chicken and Hangar steak are highly recommended and for kids I can honestly they make the best grilled cheese I’ve ever seen. The service was great and the owner is hands on and very accommodating. You should try it.

Atmosphere: Really well decorated! The bathrooms and restaurant were very clean which I enjoyed. It wasn’t as loud as some people commented. Service: I cannot express how SLOW the service was! The hostess said it was a «10 minute wait so the kitchen could catch up” — My boyfriend and I sat at the bar for 15 minutes before the bartender came over and got us a drink. Then 30 minutes after that we were finally seated. It took another 35 minutes to get our food and it wasn’t even that busy! There were empty tables all around. Food: Brussels sprouts tasted like a Christmas tree due to the Rosemary on them. French fries waaaay too well done. Burger ok. Will not be going back.

Décor is spot on for a casual, yet chic atmosphere. Unfortunately, there is no sound buffer whatsoever in the main dining room. It’s over the top loud, when at peak. So loud, we got headaches. The chef appears to be terrified to season the food. I ordered a filet that also came with a bourbon sauce on the side(why you’d serve this with a filet is beyond me) and I was expecting big flavors from that sauce, but instead got a watered down, flavorless sauce. The mashed potatoes were watery and not seasoned and the steak wasn’t seasoned at all. The saving grace of the food was that it all was perfectly cooked to each of our requests. On the upside, the staff is what really makes this restaurant. The service was excellent and everyone was very friendly and attentive. Note, young staff should be better trained about the menu. If you have oyster on the menu, staff should know where the oysters come from and be able to give a brief description of whether they’re briny, buttery, etc. We loved that they have live music and the band was absolutely fantastic. When we finished eating, we moved to the bar area to listen to the band. It was actually quieter in the bar, with the band playing, than it was in the restaurant with the loud drone of people talking. All that being said, due to the owners definitely caring about their customers, the staff being so awesome, we’ll be giving them more chances. The farm to table concept is something we’re really into and the restaurant does a good job of having a versatile, yet short menu. We’ll just be sure to request that our food be well seasoned when we order next time. :) It’s one of those restaurants you just feel comfortable in and want to keep going back to, so some things can be forgiven.

Filet is the worst restaurant I’ve ever been to. The steak at this place reminds me of Monday nights at the Outback in Danbury. My wife and I decided to dine here for our anniversary and I couldn’t have been more disappointed. I ordered the Filet and it was about a half inch thick fatty mess. This piece of meat isn’t something you would feed to a dog… let alone charge $ 32 for. Before the steak came to the table, I ordered a Stella, which arrived completely flat and disgusting. The lettuce in the Cesar salad was discolored and slimey. Literally this place is the worst.

Love this place. Not sure what these other people are even talking about. Sounds like someone was over served lol. I have been coning here since it opened. Always awesome food and service. Just had rib eye and crab legs. OMG!

Third time here since Filet opened NY Eve. We had an outstanding experience. Fantastic French Onion soup, fresh dinner salad, Asiago Chicken entrée was exceptional — and our server was efficient. Party of six tonite — and everyone loved their meals. Put Filet, along with Sal N Pepe, Figs, and Toro at the top of the food chain for Newtown restaurants.

This was our first trip. The décor was nice but it was so loud and no music to drowned out others conversation. The food was cold, under seasoned, the bread was stale, portions small for a very large price tag. $ 230 for four of us. It has potential but they definitely need to work on it. The service was so slow, had to ask for water and basics — we were their for 2 ½ hours. The hostess(maybe owner) was wearing flip flops not very professional.

Food was okay, definitely under seasoned and under cooked. Brussels sprouts were greasy and so hard they were hard to eat. Steaks were ok but not worth $ 37. Gorgonzola sauce was basically bleu cheese dressing. The steamed clams were very good and so were the sea scallops with almonds. I had a glass of wine for $ 8 which is fine but my husband had a diet coke that was $ 3! That is very expensive for a soda from the gun. It was very pretty in the restaurant and had a nice spacious bar. So overall, it was ok but I will not be returning. There are way better places for the price we paid.

Wow! Really good. We loved our meals. Spacious bar area and comfortable dining area. Service was a bit slow, but we were a largish party on a Saturday night. Will be back!

Way overpriced for extremely slow and generally disinterested of service. I left ½ my food and the waiter wasn’t the least bit interested in asking why, or if everything was okay, though he did try and push the dessert. The food is bland, underseasoned and the«Brussel Sprouts With Bacon» are lacking any bacon and just greasy. The steak was okay, but not $ 34 worth of okay and the sauce was flavorless. We waited over an hour for the food to arrive on a slow night where only 1⁄3 of the tables were occupied, I dread to think what it would be like if they ever get busy. On the plus side the waiter did bring us a slice of bread each. One slice, and never returned with any offer of a second slice while we endured the loooooong wait. If you want a good steak, there are better places with way better atmosphere than this«steakhouse» tucked in the corner of a dingy stripmall.

Eight of us went to dinner for my father-in-law’s birthday. We waited in the bar, for all of us to arrive. It is a nice size, with a few good sized tables, should you want to eat in there instead of the dining rooms. There are two dining sections, with fireplaces. I believe this is a new location for them. It was a diner … not anymore! I had Ginger Lime Norwegian Salmon dish that incredibly tasty and cooked exactly as I requested. My husband didn’t thing his steak was anything special, but all others were happy with their meal. My niece had grilled cheese from the kids menu. It was better than any grilled cheese I’ve ever seen. I started with the Chopped Hose Salad, made with kale & spinach, with a citrus vinaigrette dressing that was the best. Freshly baked bread was offered often. Portions were not skimpy; what used to be a normal size, for a filling meal. Service was very good … not hovering, but there when you needed them. We didn’t stay for dessert. It is pricey, so for us, and will be for special occasions. But definitely try it out and see for yourself.

Ate here Saturday night with 3 others. We had great round table near the fireplace. Good wine selection. Brussels sprouts were fantastic. Enjoyed beet salad with salmon. Delicious with goat cheese. A little pricey but worth it. Wait staff could use a little more polish. They were wonderful but seemed a little unsure of themselves. We will be back.

Great new restraunt just opened January 2015. Seafood and steaks a with a great raw bar. Beautiful inside with great service. Steaks is amazing and the Fish is fresh out of the sea. Excellent wine choices and large bar area. We had a Charcuterie Plate as an app(cheeses, meats, and breads etc…) and was excellent. Cost is great value for the high quality food coming from the kitchen. The owners also own«The Hook» in Sandy Hook, the menus are different but just as amazing. We definitely will be returning to «Filet».
