What a great spot in town. Good food, great service, and a nice view of the river. I recommend sitting outside on the deck if possible. I came here for brunch on a Sunday and had the calamari as an appetizer and pork belly sandwich for my meal. The service was quick and our waitress was very attentive. I noticed that before ordering, she asked if anyone had any food allergies, which was good because someone in our group had a peanut allergy. I admire that they take food allergies seriously. I definitely recommend this spot to both locals and visitors.

Arrived in area eve before Elephant’s Trunk flea market and found this spot for dinner. It was delish! Inventive farm to table inspired menu. We enjoyed the daily special mussels appetizers and each followed with the amazing fish tacos and yucca fries. Both had complex fresh and light flavors yet were incredibly filling. I also enjoyed their Orange You Bananas martini which was a nice blend of sweet and tart and strong :). Cute setting & décor. Acti r bar downstairs with love music, more serene dining upstairs. Service was charming and professional. The only thing I would change would be the seating in the upstairs by bar area, our table was floating in the middle of the room making it feel a bit exposed and awkward. I’d add tables or décor(maybe even floor to ceiling draping) to make that open space more intimate or cozy. Highly recommend. The entire menu looked terrific with something for everyone. When the weather is nice the patio will be amazing.

Well this place is an absolute gem. Service was on point, live music, specials had people lining up at the door, and to top it off it was some of the best food I’ve had in the state. You’ll have to Google some stuff like yuca fries, but otherwise it’s all good and the chef will cater to your allergies and needs. No gluten, no dairy? Easy. They’ve even got a gluten free menu, but they changed some orders for us anyway. Go for a nice walk outside after, the path down the river is beautiful and there’s a coffee spot behind the tavern.

Food — Mine was delicious! I had the grilled cheese and tomato soup. My hubby had the steak which was VERY fatty. For the price, would expect a better piece of meat. Ambience — upstairs was perfect. Tables aren’t crammed so lots of room for privacy. And the décor is great. Downstairs was LOUD for brunch — would recommend nixing the live act and opting for a quieter option during brunch hours. BUT, I can’t wait to come back at night and check out that area for a more evening/bar experience. Service — this is where I’d say our experience was lacking. It took at least 10 minutes for the waitress to take our order after drinks were delivered. Friendly staff, but slow. When we were waiting for a table, we asked to avoid the bar area because it was so loud. Upon hearing our table was ready, they still tried to sit us there. I expect this rating to go up when I return for a more evening experience, but for brunch I wasn’t fully impressed.

Mediocre food, Okay service. Can be slow at lunch time. Nice building, nice setting: you can sit on the porch overlooking the river. All-in-all, only so-so.

Amazing food… could be 4 – 5 stars but the service is atrocious! I had to ask for water multiple times and still didn’t get it… had to drink my wife’s. My wife asked for Parmesan cheese to go along with her pasta dish and by the time it was received, her food was cold. Entrees arrived before appetizer dishes were cleared. We had to ask someone to clear them so we had room to eat. So much potential in the restaurant wasteland of Western CT, but we won’t be back due the poor service on multiple trips.

Have been here twice with my wife. Food is outstanding. I’m not someone who cares to drive more than 15 minutes for food but this place is the exception. Have had the octopus, the duck, and the short rib… all stunning. Will be back for years to come.

FABULOUS little GEM! Sissy brought me here for dinner and OMG. Driving up to the restaurant is very quiet and the town is so picturesque. Not a lot going on outside. Had no idea the inside of this place was SO exciting, busy and energy was amazing! We ate EVERYTHING that was not meat. FRESH farm to table style food. Cheese board, mussels, scallops, salad… you name it, we ate it. The cocktails were fabulous. Service was on point Gorgeous décor. Love the ceiling detail. Fun crowd. Outdoor seating but we didn’t have coats so we passed. I wish I lived in CT full time so I could go here more often!

Very happy with Foundrys. I have eaten here for dinner twice but wish I could be a regular here. Wallet won’t allow, but it is worth the money when you go. Food: As a healthy foodie who also appreciated upscale pub fare this place executes farm-to-table perfectly. 1. Pork belly — it’s my rule to order pork belly anytime it’s on the menu. The pork was cooked perfectly and it had the best ratio of meat to fat to crust. The mango salsa on top was refreshing and balanced. 2. Short rib sandwich — oh my lawdy this was melt in your mouth good. The meat was tender and flavorful. It was wrapped in a soft flatbread which held together perfectly, a sandwich pet peeve of mine. Two guests at my party tried a bite and said, «I’m ordering that next time». Drink: The first time I came here I had a the whiskey drink with habanero bitters and it was so memorable I immediately ordered it my second visit. Foundry Rye Fashion. It was as good as the first time so I ordered a second. A lush, I know. Well the second one was extremely different. Two others in my party noticed it and confirmed it was a different type of rye whiskey — well — because it wasn’t as good. Had I never tasted the original one I would have probably liked the different one a lot, but the inconsistency threw me off. And one cost $ 11. Atmosphere: Our party of 7 ate upstairs which, although smaller space, was much less crowded with tables. I love the wood tables, burlap wrapped candles, and overall space. Cost came out to about $ 100 for 1 app, 2 entrees, 4 drinks, and 20% tip and tax. Not bad at all. In a nutshell: Food is fresh and creative, service is friendly, atmosphere is Connecticut trendy farm hipster, and it’s one of my favorite places for a special dining experience.

Went here with my girlfriend a few months ago. Great food & really nice atmosphere. We grabbed a quick dinner on a weeknight and it was pretty busy. Good service.

Came here for lunch with a family member we ordered two appetizers and two entries. Octopus dish was very nice and was the lamb Terrie. Both were very good. I had the Squeeller Sandwich okay but not great or on par with the appetizers. Fellow diner had grilled red snapper. Flavors and were really good but you tell the fish was not super fresh and the stated was served with stick rice. I there is no way that was sticky rice. Glutinous rice brings something to certain dishes and sure that was the intent when dish was created but then they did not deliver. For an Asian rice is not just rice and they are not all interchangeable. I would go back and try some other interesting sounding things but lacking on execution for price point they are targeting.

This place didn’t entirely live up to the hype, unfortunately. Came here for brunch a couple weeks ago and was underwhelmed with several things. –hashbrowns were weird and mushy and lacking spice/flavor –hollandaise sauce on my eggs benny was super lemony. like overly so –the amount of duck in my eggs benny was minimal at best My friends would probably have similar things to say about their dishes. Everything sounded a lot better in theory than it was in actual execution. I do love the $ 3 mimosas/bloodies though! Great deal. Would come back and give it another try for dinner — maybe it was just an off night?

What an unexpected treasure! Met some local friends here for brunch and had awesome fish tacos with yucca fries, and shared the apple/blueberry/Brie quesadilla. The food was excellent; service was very attentive(water glasses refilled before empty); live music in the background was at the right volume to listen but yet not impair conversation; and the space was both rustic and warm. There were so many great choices on the menu that I can’t wait to return and try some more dishes.

Foundry Kitchen is a MUST if you are in the Newtown/Sandy Hook area. Great food, chill vibes and amazing outdoor seating on a little brook when the weather is nice. I always order the vegetarian chili(it’s too good to venture out and try something new). Not only is it delicious(with just the right amount of spice), it is served in an adorable little jar with chips on the side. The service here is amazing — every employee goes out of their way to greet you and make you feel welcome(for someone eating alone while traveling for work, that means a lot). Stop by for a local drink or dinner — you won’t regret it!

Yum! I came here with a friend after we did the llama walk with Rowanwood Farms. We sat outside on a gorgeous little porch area which was decorated with fairy lights. The view is lovely and the tables are comfy and there’s a roof which means that the sun isn’t crazy hot while you’re dining. We were feeling rather ravenous after a two hour hike so we decided to split three brunch entrees(oink). We had the lobster scrambled eggs, the fish tacos, and the eggs benedict with duck. Everything was delicious. There were huge chunks of lobster in the lobster scrambled eggs; so generous and atypical. The eggs benedict were perfectly cooked(love that runny yolk) and the duck was tender and flavorful. The fish tacos were the star! The fish was perfectly cooked and the tacos were loaded with toppings. The yucca fries were so good; it made me mentally note that I need to learn to cook with yucca. We also had some super cheap brunch cocktails. H opted for a few different bloody marys and I went for a mimosa and a bellini. The service is quick and the staff are friendly. The only bad part about dining al fresco(and the reason for one deducted star) is that the flies swarm like crazy around the food. We got a great arm workout from shooing 1029480 flies that decided to try and crash our brunch.

This is a great place to eat and drink! Inventive menu and great service. Can get real busy on the Weekends but Ive never not been able to get seated. but its loud when full. Allergy friendly with GF buns and beer(although they should switch the beer to Omission Lager its the only really good GF beer) the bacon app is weak just two slices of breakfast bacon they need to get super thick cut bacon to make this worth the$

Love love love! Craft cocktails were fantastic I had a bourbon jalapeño maple syrup martini. It was AMAZING. We had the truffle deviled eggs to start. They were so good I wanted to order another round. Shared the short rib crepes and avocado BLT. Both were fantastic. I loved the ginger coleslaw with the crepes. We sat outside and had a great view of the water. I wish I lived closer I would come here every day! Loved the potato sack curtains and kitchen utensils used as tap handles. I love the theme and concept. Service was fantastic as well. Love love love.

Went to the Foundry twice in 2 weeks! The first time, my friend and I ordered the hummus platter to start. It was creamy and delicious, clearly housemade! For mains, she got the chicken milanese and it was to die for! Two huge, pan fried chicken breasts paired with parmesan cheese and a crisp arugula and tomato salad. Such a delicious combo! I ordered the hacienda salad, which made me far more full than I thought it would! Great combination of Mexican flavors. My only problem with it was that there was no dressing listed on the menu, yet it came with a relatively heavy and creamy dressing. Not a fan. On my second visit, we just had drinks. I love their tap offerings, but the cocktails were lacking. An updated cocktail menu would be lovely!

Impeccable both in quality food as well as service and ambiance, Foundry Kitchen and Tavern is a virtually flawless restaurant. For casual eats, this is hands down my favorite restaurant in the state. While our waiter was super awesome and I really enjoyed the cool antique building that the restaurant is located inside, I have to say the food here is really what impressed me. I had been hearing about this place for a while now and, frankly, it greatly surpassed my expectations. I came here with my brother for my mom’s birthday and she said that it was one of the best meals she has ever had in in her life. Favorite dishes: 1) Brussel Sprouts with Miso Butter and Fried Shallots: Woah this was amazing. It was a special but I believe it is often on the menu because the waiter said people flip out over it a lot. Just crazy good. 2) Fish Tacos: Yum. Bright and fresh with a homemade salsa fresca and chipotle mayo as well as the best Yucca Fries I have ever eaten in my entire life. 3) Bread Pudding: Today it was Oreo Bread Pudding and it was absolutely awesome. I am not a big bread pudding person but this one was so good with these yummy pockets of melted oreo. 4) Pork Cheek + Hummus Starters(tie): Both are awesome appetizers and done especially well here. Rich, flavorful, and not too fatty pork and really delicious and light hummus. 5) Roast Chicken: While I didn’t like this as much as the above courses it was a nice standard roast chicken with a good pan sauce and A LOT of awesome roasted veggies. They do not skimp here on portions. 6) Indonesian Street Cart Chicken: This was the only thing I tasted that I didn’t exactly love but it was still solid and came with awesomely good fries. I think next time I will go with the octopus or shrimp starter rather than this. Anyway, this joint definitely lived up to the hype and I personally think it is way better than places like Caseus or Mikro(both of whom get wayyy more traffic, likely because they are in much more populous areas.) However if you are anywhere near this place definitely give it a try for lunch or dinner(the menus seem to be very similar).
