Excellent food and terrific service from Tai!!! I have eaten here several times but now the menu has been updated and the food was amazing. Definitely coming back more frequently.

We’ve eaten at Redlands(aka J Alexanders) many times and have had good experiences. We went today, and not so much. The restaurant had Sea Bass as one of its specials, so I ordered it. What I got looked like Mahi Mahi, so I sent it back. The inept manager came back and tried to convince me that it was Corvina — and as he put it — the White Sea Bass. A quick wiki search puts Corvina in the Drum family. Eh, Mr. Restaurant Manager you better have a chat with your supplier. Anyway, minimal apology, and an offer to make something else. Meanwhile, my wife is finishing her meal. I told him to bring back my original order. Surprisingly, that’s what he did. He didn’t fire me up a new one, just the same piece, now cold. When the check came, they went ahead and charged me for this imposter of a Sea Bass. I made a comment to the server about her manager’s error, and didn’t even get an acknowledgement. I wonder how many unsuspecting souls got cheated on their meals today? We won’t be back any time soon.

This place is fantastic. The servers are all very attentive. The food is delicious and the portions are massive. No complaints here other than it being slightly pricey, but that’s to be expected at a steak restaurant.

Had dinner here about a dozen times in the last 6 years or so. The food quality is noticeably lower than last year. Don’t know if this is related to the rebranding to Redlands. Just an observation. As J. Alexander’s, the brand, the servers were always very professional and proficient, and now it is at the level of what you would expect for any other chain, fill in the blank. To emphasize the degradation of the service, even though the menu is essentially the same, the experience no longer leaves us with the feeling that this was the best dinner ever to be had. This is because the service at the table was mediocre, the manager no longer engages the customers and more importantly the quality of the food was just average for the cost. Time for us to find a new fine food restaurant experience in Norcross.

It’s so commonplace to read a review saying ‘I wish I could give this place six stars!’ I’ve never understood that; instead, I will simply say that after eating here, I finally logged in to Unilocal *JUST* so I could write a review of this place. Such was the experience that I actually felt that there was no other task more important than to share my opinions on the place with the rest of the world. I came into town on business, and after a long day I decided to go someplace nice for my last night. What can I say? I was completely blown away by the quality of the food, the friendliness of the staff, and the classy atmosphere. I’ve seen more ‘upscale’ restaurants in LA and NYC, and have certainly seen more expensive ones, but what stuck out was how much the employees here seem to genuinely care about You the Individual, rather than simply You the Wallet. It’s really not difficult to tell when someone is going through the motions and mailing in their effort, because true quality is something that simply cannot be faked. Jack, the manager, was extremely helpful and attentive, and my waiter never once failed to bring my food or a refill at the absolute perfect time. If you could imagine having an entire staff there to serve only you — but without the exorbitant costs of a mansion to house them — this would probably be it. If you could use the word ‘doting’ without the negative connotation, that might be the best descriptor. I felt like I actually mattered, and to be perfectly honest, that’s the only thing that a customer is ever going to take away with them. I had the croque madame, and it has come as close to changing my life as any meal is likely to. I even ate the greens, down to the last shred of a leaf — which, considering that I am someone who detests anything that even vaguely resembles a salad, should speak volumes as to my reaction upon first tasting it. I was very nearly at the point of a nervous breakdown as the meal progressed, because I knew that each morsel I savoured would only bring the meal closer to an end. And dare I say that the sourdough is actually better than what I found back home in San Francisco(the so-called ‘capital’ of sourdough, now revealed to be merely a pretender to the throne), and risk losing my Bay Area Authenticity Card? Why, yes, yes I will in fact say that, and your judgmental thoughts are meaningless to me. This was bread baked by the One True God from the purest wheat grown in Elysian fields, which in turn were likely watered by the tears of angels. Does it get better? Why, yes, yes it does. The Very Best Chocolate Cake is precisely that: the most delectable dessert you are ever likely to taste. Thick, rich, and accompanied by a heaping scoop of vanilla ice cream, all resting above a lattice of chocolate that cris-crosses over a plate larger than the upper body of most children. Mortal tongues were never meant to be blessed with such a delicacy, but there it is — ready to be devoured by you, the fortunate customer. Would I go back? Christ almighty, I would come to Georgia JUST to eat here. Diplomats could resolve global conflicts by sharing a meal here. But the real question is: should YOU go there? I think the answer is fairly self-explanatory.

This was my first dining experience at this fine establishment. I have passed it millions of times, but always chalked it up to be a steak house. On my visit I realized it has more than just steak. I ordered the West End sandwich which came with fries on the side. The waiter did mention that we can switch sides. Other dishes at our table were a burger, veggie burger, and Thai Kai salad. I really liked the Thai Kai salad because it was light and still filled me up. The server was awesome! I would recommend this place especially for a group up to 6 people.

I’ve always loved J. Alexander’s! It had been a while since I’ve been last to this location but nevertheless, it still reflects as a nice ambiance establishment with awesome food! My husband and I took my mother and mother in law here for a nice birthday dinner and everything ordered was superb along with the wait staff service! The shrimp are HUGE! :)

One of my favorite establishments in the area. A tad overpriced, but they are consistent, and provide good quality food. Some superlative entrees in my opinion are the French dip, fish tacos, and prime rib. Excellent side dishes include the macaroni and cheese as well as the French fries. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgable, and are generally very helpful with any requests. I look forward to visiting again soon.

During my first trip to Norcross, some colleagues suggested that I try this place and then took me there for lunch. As a vegetarian, it’s getting easier for me to find good at restaurants, and they said I MUST try the veggie burger and the mac ‘n’ cheese. I did. Oh. My. God. That’s probably some of the best mac ‘n’ cheese I’ve ever had, and the veggie burger had some heft to it as well. It wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but it was pretty darn good. I went back for the second time recently and opted for the veggie burger again. Still good. This place is quite busy around lunch time so get there a little before noon or you might be waiting for a while. Also, beware the dress code. I didn’t realize this the first time, but at the bottom right of the menu they do have stipulations on what you can and can’t wear. Most of the clientele are business professionals coming for lunch so no one really has anything to worry about, but make sure you’re not wearing a cap or hat or they might just show you the door. lol

I go here all the time when I have to travel through for work. I saw the rating and I really think this place is a 4 – 5 star establishment and I have to put my two cents here on Unilocal. The service and fresh food are top notch! I have not had a dish where I thought it was bad, though I am not a picky eater. I love the veggie burger and fish tacos. If I want to splurge, the steak maui is awesome along with the fantastic calamari. The service is always great! I have never had a bad experience with this place, though I am pretty easy to please. Not for a second did I feel I was ignored or slighted in anyway. They are very attentive to your needs. You can tell the staff are professionals at what they do everyday.

I’ve never had a bad meal at J Alexander’s. The burgers are delicious, and I love their honey mustard. Our waitress was kind and attentive, and even gave me extra sour cream and toppings for my baked potato leftovers I took home.

This restaurant has it ups and downs. I stop coming here in 2009 cause food and service was so bad. I finally came back tonight for a friends birthday. It was a great night of excellent food and service. The layout is the same from back in the day but it has been kept in great condition. The server was awesome, the top notch service you expect from a 5 star restaurant. Queso spinach– Was really good and tasty but chips was so salty Thai Salmon with bang bang sauce– Great dish from the chef special. Fish was cooked before and had great flavor. Presentation was nice also. Maui Ribeye– Steak was cooked great, flavors was all there and meat quality was awesome for the value. My friends had salads they loved it. Not sure what they got lol but looked good too Carrot cake– Super duper yummy, moist and so much flavors. Frosting was yummy too. Crème burlee– Great serving size but wasn’t up to my standard. But friends really liked it.

We went here for a business dinner. The ambiance and setting was perfect – relaxed but attentive, up-scale but not stuffy. The wait staff were on top of their game, and the food came out really quickly. My martini was refreshed without my asking – apparently they had been out of the sidecar they usually provide, so they just made a second martini. Food seemed pricey for what was offered. I got the Maui steak with smashed potatoes. The steak was delicious, but I thought the sauce was not up to quality of the steak. I would have preferred vegetables to the potatoes, but that’s just me. Others in my party seemed to enjoy their dinners very much. We had more steak, the tuna, and a sole special.

CALLINGALLVIKINGS! I had a lovely little«lady lunch» with my girls today. This was my first visit to J’s and it did not disappoint. Although, I would like to see a more varied lunch menu. Today, I chose the Rattlesnake pasta and it was RICH! I am talking naughty, don’t ever do that again rich. It was straight cream, butter pasta, chicken and mixed sweet peppers. It is six hours later and I am still good. I rarely eat pasta so I took a risk and while it was nice, I would never eat it again. This was Viking food reserved for men who go out and plunder ships and of course, King Henry VIII. I can’t imagine that this specific dish was created with the average person in mind. I could seriously feel my doctor giving me «side eye» as I ate this dish. In addition to the pasta, I sampled the veggie burger and it was incredible. It was very well seasoned and had a smoky taste. On my next visit, I plan on having the veggie burger with only a bottom bun and the grilled zucchini which looked delicious. If I go with my husband, I will share a slice of carrot cake because my girlfriend raved about how delicious it tastes. We’ll see, but it can’t possibly be as good as mine :). Anyway, I don’t understand how people go out and eat an appetizer and an entrée or entrée and dessert as all of the dishes were very filling. I was the only one who actually finished the entire meal and I only had pasta. If this is lunch, I can’t even imagine the dinner options,(Vikings on steroids-YIKES!) The ambiance and décor was on point, dark and muted which made for a very relaxing and enjoyable meal. Customer service was great today as we had a «Chatty Cathy» as our waitress. She was that«cute and excited» chatty and not that«go away because you’re obnoxious» chatty. She was very attentive, patient and helpful. J. Alexander’s proved to be a very nice choice.

Well, its been a while since we’ve been back here, but we made it! It was Dinner time and we had plans on meeting one of our really close friends and her husband here. We got in around 6pm, and quickly got sat(My wife is on crutches so they attended us super fast, thanks for great service!!). Also, We had no issues getting a table as we came in right before the crowd really started coming in! As we sat down we were promptly greeted by our waiter, and got some drinks in. Dirty Martini for the wife, Sweetwater 420 for me and Wine for our friends. There must be something about that Martini because from when we left until this morning i heard my wife say«its been the best Martini I’ve ever had» maybe because of the blue cheese olives that were in it? Don’t know, she orders them quite a bit everywhere we go, so must be good, try it! We continue the fun topics of conversation and decided to skip our appetizers and go straight to order the main entrees. Wife ordered the Asian Ahi Tuna Salad, which looked delicious(Pic added) and smiles eye to eye, our friend got the Vegetable Platter, which changes every day, lets just say she murdered in less that 5 minutes, yes, it was that good! Ha! I got the Mr. Jack’s Crispy Chicken Platter with Cole Slaw and a side of the«Not your Ordinary Mac and Cheese». Let me tell you about that mac and cheese, man it was awesome, had everyone on the table trying to get it off my plate when i wasn’t looking, that’s how good it is, so make sure you order it next time! Overall, We enjoy this restaurant quite a bit, Has an after work — happy hour vibe on weekdays; people ordering wine at the bar, watching games on the TV’s, or having business meetings on the outside deck with a glass of wine enjoying this great Georgia weather. Whatever the case may be, if you are in the area and looking to have a nice meal, with great wine pairings this is the place. I hate that we don’t come too often, but its been great every time. Also, the name will be changing from J Alexanders to Redlands Grill — Atlanta in the next couple of weeks.

J. Alexander’s reminds me of a wannabe Houston’s. Many of the menu items are similar, along with the décor and the water service. However, I find the food to be hit or miss, so stick to the basics and you should be okay. Service is fine, friendly and helpful, and the food arrives quickly after ordering. All in all, J. Alexander’s is a serviceable place for a business lunch, but if I was paying the tab I would definitely opt for another restaurant in the area. To me, the prices are on the high side compared to the quality of the food. Note to those with food allergies: although the staff will work with you, they will offer disclaimers in case of accidental contact. So if you have Celiac and are sensitive to cross-contamination, be wary. When I asked about making their Ahi tuna salad gluten free, I basically got a huge pile of lettuce and a nice piece of seared tuna. The tuna was great, even without sauce or seasoning, but the greens weren’t so hot.

Maybe it was THIS particular J. Alexanders… not sure, but I’ve had MUCH better dinners at their properties in Denver and West Palm Beach, FL. Went here Monday night, and received good wait staff service from Krystel… Had the white bean soup… tasty, but nothing to write home about, and the Prime Rib(medium to medium rare.) The first cut was tough as hell… and Krystel immediately brought it back to the kitchen so they could cut me another from the second roast they had going. Well, the second cut was better, and more tender, but seemed to be more medium than medium rare. Plus there was the taste… or lack thereof. Almost no real taste at all. The au jus had more flavor than the meat itself. I even ordered the extra thick cut, which added another inch or so, and upped the price another $ 8.00. Along with the prime, I had a loaded backed potato instead of the ‘smashed potatoes.‘ For a beverage, I ordered a gin martini(well), splash of vermouth, and some green olives and cocktail onions. I ended up paying for a call brand martini, totalling over $ 13.00! I also drank a pint of Yuengling to help wash down the tough prime. I gave this location 2 stars, since, «Meh, I’ve experienced better…», and I really have. J. Alexanders should be top notch, and their Denver and WPB sites are… this one however, not so much. To add insult to injury, I left with a $ 75.00 bill for the soup, prime rib, baked potato, a martini, a beer, and gratuity. That kind of change is just not worth it for me… and I will not be going back anytime soon(even IF they have my favorite Swordfish Beurre Noir on the specials menu.)

A wonderful young lady decided to take me out for dinner just because and this is where we ended up. It’s located at Peachtree Corners. The but outside of the ambiance there isn’t really much else to want to come for. There was soft music playing so I would definitely recommend this place for the«romance» factor but I would just enjoy a drink for the most part if I ever decide to go back. The menu, service, and food left plenty to be desired. The menu was pretty basic. It had pretty average dishes. There was nothing that I was blown away or remotely impressed by. I can’t really think of anything that stood out. I wound up going with the Rattlesnake Pasta just because I couldn’t decide. The description basically read Southwestern spices, peppers, chicken, and pasta. It tasted just as bland as it was described. It had no pop. You know that first bite you have of something amazing? Yeah… that’s what it didn’t have. Service was less than average. Our waitress Fatimah seemed like she was serving us just because. It was as if we were interrupting her in someway by being there. I hoped for so much more from this place but I can’t help the helpless.

The ambiance of this restaurant is exquisite. Walking in, it’s very dimly lit — there are tables in the middle and booths around the edges of the place. Kind of a sexy, date vibe but extremely appropriate for the night I had planned with my boyfriend. We hadn’t been out together(just us 2) in a while — so I wanted to go somewhere he and I could chill, talk and be able to converse without yelling over the other. J. Alexander’s was great. Now, just because the ambiance was nice doesn’t mean they deserve 5 stars and I can definitely see why this place is rated 3.5 stars. I’m going to go on the low end and rate them with a 3 but if I could, I’d definitely give them a 3 and a half. The food was good. I got my usual prime rib and mashed potatoes. Since I’ve had this meal a dozen times from dozens of places, I’m very critical of my steak. The potatoes were too salty. I had to take a sip of my Shirley Temple after every bite. The steak wasn’t quite cooked like I asked for it to be — which is medium. Not too pink but just a little strip of the middle. It was an average steak and potatoes meal. My waitress Fatima, was pretty friendly. She had moments when it seemed like she didn’t want to be bothered and others when she was overly helpful so between the two she was average, I suppose. I really wanted this place to be superb but it meets average standards. I’d come again to have an appetizer and enjoy the ambiance but just for the food — I doubt it.

I made a mistake on this one when I ordered, but it will never happen again. My soon to be boss said get the steak or rattlesnake pasta. I picked fried chicken. So, I thought it would be a chicken breast and a wing or whatever. Nope. It was chicken fingers, but these chicken fingers were delicious. This place is awesome and I will probably be updating this review in a month, when I visit it again in Atlanta.

BUZZ — Prime Rib — Calamari I TRIED — Deviled Eggs(9.9÷10) — Alex Salad(6⁄10) — Steak Maui(5⁄10) There was a place down in Champaign, IL by U of I called Alexanders. You’d pay for a steak(anywhere between $ 10-$ 25 based on size and cut), and went to the fridge to claim your raw steak. They had 2 giant indoor grills with seasoning shakers, dry rubs, etc. and you grilled it yourself. Plus the price included a salad buffet. No, it wasn’t the best steak, not even close, but the novelty was great! When I first heard friends rave about J. Alexanders, that U of I restaurant was all I could picture. That was probably 9 years ago, and up until now, I never went to a J. Alexanders, so I still thought that way! As soon as I walked in, I realized it was definitely not that. It felt pretty classy, but not as much as, say, a Morton’s, but a little nicer than a Claimjumpers. Let me also say, their website SUCKS! I’m here in Norcross on business, and as soon as I saw the J. Alexanders, practically across the street, I was relieved that FINALLY I can go try it out. I knew it was going to be a bit pricey, so I wanted to check out their menu, and where else would you do that than their website, under the«Food» section. Well, they have about 20 pictures of different dishes. It’s clearly not everything they have, but that’s all they give you. What kinda BS is that?! Nowhere on the site could I find a regular menu. Worthless! So I had to go find out myself… DEVILEDEGGS I pay close attention to what other people mention in their Unilocal reviews(hence the BUZZ section), but for some reason, when I actually started ordering, I could only remember the last 1 – 2 reviews, and one of them mentioned deviled eggs. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that on a menu in any restaurant, but I decided why not. Deviled eggs are just delicious. Period. These are mostly the same, except for one awesome addition. There are a couple small strips of bacon(think of the think tortilla chips you put in a Chicken Tortilla soup. Yeah… the red and blue ones. You get it!) on top of the yolk mix. Those strips packed a punch of flavor that added a whole new dimension to deviled eggs! The bacon, of course, added its saltiness and smokiness to the mix, but if it just ended there, I think you may have ended up with a salty deviled egg. But the bacon was candied, so it added this awesome sweetness that balanced out the salt and pronounced the flavors even more! I think there were 8 or 10 on a plate. I was sad when I took the last bite. ALEXSALAD I wanted a small salad, and the menu says you can add any salad to an entrée for $ 3. After eating the deviled eggs, I was almost regretting a side salad… but this was no side salad! This was probably 2 lettuce leaves short of a dinner salad! Oh God! There’s nothing really special about this, though. It’s just lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and croutons. Everything tasted fresh enough. The croutons were mini, probably less than a cm cubed, so they were basically just added salt in a crunchy way. When croutons are too small like this, they don’t really help the salad, in my opinion. I got blue cheese dressing, which is house made. Honestly, I couldn’t tell the difference, and even more honestly, I don’t think I’m capable of telling the difference. STEAKMAUI I drew a blank. I’m not even sure WHY I ordered this. This was very unbecoming of me. I like steak for the steak flavor. I don’t like steaks that have addon cheese crusts or doused in some bernaise sauce, because I’m more interested in the steak flavor. If the steak flavor is nonexistent or bad, then yeah sure, bring out the sauce. I’m sure I can sum up this steak for you pretty easily. Imagine a decent ribeye, but marinaded to the core, with TGI Friday’s Jack Daniels sauce. That’s it! Do I like it? NO! well… eh. I would never order it again. The steak was cooked ok, it seemed medium rarish. When I say that it was marinaded to the core, I’m serious! It’s not just some sauced that was put on top of a grilled steak, but this sauce is infused with everything. One of my favorite burgers of all time is the Jack Daniels burger at TGI Fridays. I love that sauce, and it works so well with their burger and pickle. mmmm! But, when I realized this steak was smothered in it, I felt bad for the steak, like the steak never got to live its dream of becoming a movie star, a leading endocrinologist, or a Jazzercise instructor. It had the charisma and the desire to be any of those things, but no… it was forced to be a failing plumber without a union to turn to. Whoa…that…got out of hand… Anyway, I did finish it, but I didn’t really enjoy it. Part of me wanted to ask for a bun and condiments to make it into a Jack Daniels burger. It’s just not for me. SIGH (NoMoreSpace)…Wasn’t impressed. Won’t go back. Even if I wanted to, no menu on website! Website SUX!

Came here with my big family for our first meal in ATL. I left amazingly full and happy from that carrot cake. FOOD: Margarita(3 stars): Not the best I’ve had. Deviled Eggs(4 stars): That candied bacon on top made this dish. Calamari(3.5 stars): They give a good amount. The marinara sauce was good. Cilantro Shrimp(4 stars): Shrimp were cooked really well. They give you a lot! Rice was good too. Comes with cole slaw but you can change the side(= Mac and Cheese(3 stars): Read on here this was the best mac n’ cheese. It was good but not the best. The top baked part was better than the insides. Very cheesy, too cheesy for me. Baby Back Ribs(4 stars): Meat fell off the bone, very tender. Not much meat on each bone though. Carrot Cake(5 stars): Best carrot cake I’ve had, and I LOVE carrot cake. So moist, comes out nice and warm, and they got the cream cheese frosting just right. Save room for this! ATMOSPHERE(4 stars) Nice big restaurant, we had a group of 10 so they had to split us into two booths. Wish they had a long table to seat us at. SERVICE(4 stars) Our waitress was great. Some things we asked didn’t make it to our table since there were multiple people helping us, but once we asked again we got it. Checked on us multiple times. PARKING Private lot.
