This location is closed and even though they are open again at Cumberland and Belmont, I feel like a part of my childhood is dead.

Just a quick review… Overall, a pretty good ‘family’ restaurant. Prices here are very reasonable, and portions are large. Service is good at this location.

Typical senior-oriented family restaurant… with some better than expected food. Dappers has an average menu with a number choices: from dinner specials, to sandwiches, to breakfast all day to various fountain creations. Like many family restaurants, the prices are moderate and the portions are large. The taste of the food is definitely a notch above the typical family establishments I’ve tried, however. The food is always fresh and flavored well. I’ve had nearly everything on the menu in my 25 years living down the street. Some of my favorites are the French toast, patty melt, fried chicken and Greek salad. The soup of the day is always delicious as well. If you are the Northwest side of the city and want a cheap meal for a picky bunch of eaters, Dappers is a good, clean place to order up. Full bar as well.

This is a nice looking Dapper’s inside compared to some of the others that seem to look like crappy diners and have horrible service. The service here is nice and for groups it’s not necessarily the best because they can’t group everyone together in the same place easy enough that you can converse with maybe 12 or more people but they’ll be happy to accommodate you and get you tables near each other as best they can. It’s a good location, so parking is easy and there’s other shops around in case you’re in the area and want to stop in for a nice little sit down breakfast, brunch or dinner. I’ve been here for both brunch and dinner and I think their options for both are pretty nice. They also have a bar inside. More than anything else this is a good family restaurant. Their breakfast sausages taste a little odd, so I recommend the bacon, and their eggs are a little dryer than I like. The servers are not overly friendly but this is a Dapper’s not a high class restaurant, they’re not really mad or anything at you they’re just not trying too hard. Either way, I think it’s a nice late night or breakfast place for younger folks headed out for a bite, and a nice dinner or brunch place for families.

Dapper’s is like a Denny’s with a full bar attached to it. It is right off of Cumberland in a strip mall with plenty of parking. A selling point for me is that it is one of the few restaurants open really early and really late in the area. The menu is about as thick as a Dr. Seuss book. Inside is a combination of Greek, Italian, and American fare. You can order breakfast, lunch, or dinner items no matter what time of day it is. Prices are very reasonable and the portions are above average. The food is a bit plain, which is fine by me, but I’m just warning the pickiest bon vivants. The food gets cooked very quick. The wait staff can be slow – it just depends which waiter/waitress you get. If you go at night, there is always a group of old Italians hanging out by the breakfast bar area telling really bad jokes, really loudly. Some are so corny that you can’t help but laugh. There are a few other Dapper’s locations in Chicagoland, but I think this particular one was the original location. Overall, this is an affordable place to take friends and family for a good meal and even an alcoholic beverage.
