Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft

Worst set up I have ever seen in any of their stores. Customer Service was awful. They need to better teach their cashiers how to greet and check customers waiting in line. A very rude bunch of employees. Not to mention the store was dirty. Never will I go there again.
Very, very disappointed.

Ever been to a DMV that smells like Yankee Candles, where you can browse some lovely floral patterns while you wait, and wait… and wait?
I have. It’s the new branch called Jo-Ann’s. You only go there to buy fabric you love, because boy oh boy, you are going to wait for it.
For the record, it’s a nice place. My better half often coerces me into accompanying her there to pick out fabrics for one sewing project or another. They usually have what she’s looking for. Never thought I’d say this, but I’ve actually enjoyed those trips.
That is, until The Day We Waited. We weren’t renewing a license or picking up plates, the way we would at one of those old-​style DMVs that smell like winos and the white-​knuckle fear of teen drivers. We wanted a few yards of fleece cut. We waited 40 minutes.
We’d gaze off into the distance — to the big table where they were cutting fabric, where we all wanted fabric cut — and we wouldn’t see the employees lopping away with the scissors. They were futzing around with their handheld price-​checkers, and going back and forth with a customer with probably 60 pounds of merchandise in her cart (who was being «served» before all the people who needed maybe 90 seconds of cutting).
The lady who finally helped us was very pleasant. I say «helped» instead of «cut our fabric» because by the time they finally called number 102 (us), we said «We’ll take all this fabric — no need to cut.» Then we expected a long line at checkout — there usually is one — but that time we didn’t even have to wait. Everyone was still at the «cutting» table.
In a nutshell: Jo-Ann’s, you’re ridiculously understaffed. Someone tell the managers when the busy days are. Oh, and Corporate HQ: please have an «express aisle» for the cutting table, the way they have at the supermarket.
I’ll think of doilies next time I renew my driver’s license.

This Jo-​Ann Fabrics location is ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE!!!
Walking into here is like strolling into a gigantic warehouse type establishment… think Sam’s Club or BJ’s… except its full of every arts and crafts supply you could ever imagine. If I had never visited this location, I would think that this chain was simply made up of small mediocre businesses not worth my time or effort to locate materials for my hand made projects. This location though, trumps all others within the area and is worth a trip to from time to time to stock up. When you are with your mom on one side of the store, decide to go look at cross-​stitching kits in another section across the way, and it requires her to make large, animated hand motions to direct you to which section of the store it is in… you know you’ve hit the crafter’s jackpot.
My concern with this location’s size, was in fact locating what I needed. Thankfully, this store is well organized and staffed with friendly associates willing to help you find what you want. On approaching one associate behind the fabric cutting counter for a leather needle I was looking for… she gave me a puzzled look, wasn’t sure if the store carried the item, walked me over to where it would be located if they did, and lo and behold we both learned that they indeed carried the product. After a good laugh and surprise at how cheap the item was, we parted ways.
The cross-​stitching section is located just behind mountains and mountains of yarn piles. For some reason, many craft stores are no longer selling the kits. This place fortunately has not followed suit. In addition to a nice variety of kits, they also have a clearance section! Ahhh! I ended up with two Christmas stocking designs to work on throughout the year.
I could go on and on about this place. The fabrics are plentiful and well displayed by type and color. Frames and wall art adorn aisle upon aisle. They have the largest selection of scrapbooking supplies I have ever seen in one place. I skipped the whole middle section on this previous trip but I’m sure if I had delved into this area it would have been a long time before I was discovered and saved from the enormous sales and product to walk through. And though its a ways away at the time of this review… this place is an absolute madhouse on Black Friday. Unless you are buying fabric or whatnot in bulk at this time, I’d stay away. It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before.
In any case, check this place out. Its amazing!

I made a last minute holiday run here one day with my bestie and she summed up this Joann’s perfectly: «Wow… It’s enormous.»
Walking into this Joann’s is like walking into a very bright warehouse. It’s vast, fabric to the left, other crafts to the right, the current holiday’s wares in front of you, and I have no idea what’s in the barrens in the back. I don’t actually know if I’ve made it that far.
The fabric section is surprisingly well organized and there’s a good selection of it. What particularly pleases me is that it has a pretty substantial selection of novelty quilting cotton, well beyond teddy bears and country-​home type prints. The last time I was poking around, I counted four different Day of the Dead patterns and three Hanukkah patterns. That’s pretty exciting if you’re looking to either make dresses for toddlers or dress like one yourself. There’s a rainbow of zippers and thread near the cutting table. The trims sections feels a little sparse to me, but I imagine that’s because I always have an idea of what I want and it may or may not really exist.
The craft department seems a little less organized to me, but it’s possible that’s because all other crafty things are crammed into a third of the store. The yarn looks substantial, but I always seems to be looking for odd sizes or a specific colourway and it’s not really anywhere but a dedicated yarn store. I have had a bit of trouble locating easier things, like beads or feathers, which is why this is a four star review.
I’ve had no trouble with customer service. I haven’t seen many employees out on the floor, but I also like browsing without being asked if I need help. Anyone I’ve spoken to at the cutting tables or the cash-​wraps have been more than pleasant and helpful. I tend to come in with coupons from the mail and a couple from Joann’s app and I’ve never felt like the cashier was impatient or aggravated by my poking away at my phone to find where exactly an extra code was. They’ve also been helpful telling me which coupons can be combined, which can’t, and where the better discount lies. That’s certainly enough to keep me coming back.
It’s still a big box, multiple craft store, but at least it’s doing it right.

When I go to Jo-Ann’s I almost always find what I need. There have been a few times that I’ve needed some assistance to find one thing or another or to ask a question and I’ve been all but impressed.
I find that the employees in North Attleboro tend to enjoy each other’s company much more than they do helping employees. There customer service is lackluster at best, but if you have a legitimate question they usually know the right answer.

I truly love Jo-​Anns, It has everything I could possibly think of for any craft I have in mind. The staff is usually pretty friendly, the store is always clean and they always have post holiday stuff at really low prices. I never really went here I had always gone to their competitor across the street, thank goodness one day I just walked in. I’ve never been across the street since. The one thing I don’t enjoy is almost everything is on sale. that might sound odd but when their news paper flyers have 40−50% off coupons on non sale items (their sale usually being 10% off) it takes the wind out of my sails. Other then that I can’t complain.

Decent selection of fabrics and other crafting goodies. Wish they had one a bit closer to Boston.

I love this store because they have craft and fabric supplies, as well as great sales. Remnants were 70% off and redline fabric was 50% off so I bought a ton of it this week. The store is also very clean and they have a huge selection of quilting cotton and polar fleece. I’ve never looked at the other fabric but it overshadows most stores I go to.
That being said, I’ve had the worst two experiences with Jo-Ann’s this week. I went on Tuesday and was basically manhandled by the check out clerk and then yesterday, the cutting associate was doing me such a favor to cut my fabric and refused to sell me remnants.
The people who work here are hands down the least friendly people. I interacted with three women who would not answer my questions (Can I get 1 yard of this) at an audible level or with a respectful tone. I’m young but hard of hearing and every question I asked the first clerk (an older woman) couldn’t even be heard by the other people I was with. I was getting 1 yard of many fabrics but since this is a fabric store, this shouldn’t be a huge inconvenience.
My mother was getting other fabric at the same time and had an issue with her fabric receipt so we had to get another clerk to help us at the check-​out. Once our order was rung up and all coupons entered, the sales terminal crashed and the other clerk had to re-​enter the entire order (fabric by fabric) at another terminal. We received no apology for this and the clerk got so annoyed at having to do it. I understand that these things crash but an «Oh sorry, we have to move terminals» rather than grabbing our bags and crashing away from us. Just an idea…
The final straw was remnants. My mom is making polar fleece covered hot packs and she was looking for remnants. When the cutting clerks have extra time, they roll these up and package them. Both times the clerks refused to sell us these remnants that were rolled up and just not labeled. I was really bothered by this because I was the only person in line yesterday and the clerk said «Oh this remnant isn’t labeled so it doesn’t exist yet» and tossed it under the counter. Hah, save it for yourself…
I will go back only because they have a wide selection of almost every craft supply (except for glass etching boo) but I am seriously contemplating speaking with a manager next time I get attitude from a 60+ crafty grandma taking out her PMS on me. Seriously, I thought knitting relieved stress…

I always thought of Jo-​Ann as the sad looking stepsister to sexier craft stores. I was shocked to run into her again, all grown up and rather attractive.
She’s full of everything you could need, ever. I was impressed with the yarn selection, given that I typically yield to chain stores as a last resort. The selection here was worthy of First Stop. They had plentiful supplies in all other areas of crafting — crocheting, sewing, scrapbooking, painting, quilting, fake flowering.
I’m impressed with the makeover or whatever it is that happened to formerly frumpy Jo-​Ann. Kudos, sister.
