Since I visit this plaza regularly, I should post one place I had eaten before the big retrofit to the entire area when Safeway was still here before they moved over to Nave on the other side of 101. Okay, onto the food. Java Grill was the local competition to Burrito Tech at the time when it comes to gourmet wraps and the owner Mike was a visionary in pleasing all his loyal customers with wholesome gourmet wraps. So what went wrong? Too many variation of wraps that one could not possibly specialize in making all of them fabulous. During busy lunch hour, the wraps were just plain rushed where the ingredients is uneven like meat at one end and veggie on the other, same with the amount which can vary too. Some of their more popular wraps were very very good. However, sometimes the temperature of their wraps, specifically the black beans were way tooo hot! I have to let it cool down abit after unwrapping the foil before I can eat it without burning my mouth. Also, they should had dump the burgers and just stick with wraps cause the meat taste like it was frozen microwaved. I still have a take out menu from this place that brings back all the good and not so good memories. A place long gone now, not really missed. 2.5 stars

Java grill has gone out of business :( — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — Good burgers, The burgers are a bit big and unwieldy but provide some good tastes and reasonable value. I’ve had the Baja burger(Jalapenos, Gauc) which is pretty damn spicy and the Mushroom teriyaki(a bit salty for my tastes) They’ve also got some super garlicy potato wedges(fries). The crushed garlic they put on there is often haphazardly put on, sometimes I’ll find huge balls of crushed garlic that is pretty funny. Delicious none the less. My only complaint for Java Grill would be that the prices are a bit high for a strip-mall burger joint. Would be a devastating value if their burgers were a buck or two cheaper. Pretty chill place for a lunch break though.

The one star is because I can’t give zero. To be fair, my horrible meal is kind of my fault for always needing to adjust a menu to fit my tastes. But if it were not partially my fault, and I could give zero stars, I would. In a hot second. This is not the first time I’ve had a slightly scary and inedible meal from Java Grill. Why did I order from them again?(This is the LAST time!) My work orders lunch from them a few times a month, I forgot to pack my lunch and I was HUNGRY. Anyway. If I order things straight off the menu from Java Grill they are usually odd. The beans are bland and the rice can be crunchy and dry. So, I thought that I’d remake a menu item by adding some extras and avoiding the beans and rice completely. On the menu: Western Wrap — BBQ chicken or steak $ 7.25 My changes: add sour cream, add cheese,(at a dollar each) add salsa(free), no beans, no rice. Total: $ 9.25 I expected a flour tortilla containing chicken, melted cheese, salsa, and sour cream. What I got: a tortilla pouch filled(FILLED!) with cold BBQ sauce and about a tablespoon each of sour cream and(not melted) shredded cheese.(SO glad I paid two dollars extra!) There was so much liquid in it that there was no other way to eat the thing except cut it open. It burst on the plate and created a ½ inch deep pool of sauce. I have no idea how they managed to get that much BBQ sauce in it. With a pastry bag? They forgot the salsa, thank heaven. There were about 10 small cubes of chicken floating in the sauce. I picked out the chicken. Gross. If they had just left out the BBQ sauce, it might have been edible. 1 star for my responsibility in changing the menu item. 0 stars for Java Grill not knowing that nobody wants to eat two cups of BBQ sauce wrapped in a tortilla. Never again, Java Grill. Never again.
