Great experience, great food and great waitress. First time going there, and I ordered the beef tenderloin tips while my boyfriend ordered the smoked range chicken. The beef was cooked to a perfect medium, and the chicken was incredibly moist. We also ordered creamy mushroom soup, crem brûlée, and a chocolate dessert. Great time

Overall impression: great prices, good service at the bar, fantastic flavorful RICH food. Make a reservation — we came on a Saturday night and they wouldn’t take walk ins until after eight. We sat at the bar and the servers were brusque but very efficient and attentive. The bar was very clean. We were immediately served bread and butter, the bread was warm and soft and fresh but rather plain. I ordered the squash soup but they got my order wrong and gave me mushroom soup — I didn’t mind since the soup was so rich. If you order the mushroom soup don’t get more than a cup! The main courses came very quickly, within minutes! I ordered the roast duckling, which was excellent with its rich fatty skin. My mom got the scallops, which are cooked perfectly. We also ordered a beef tenderloin appetizer, medium rare. It was fantastic but shortly arrived after the main course, so our server told us it was on the house. Finally, we got flourless chocolate squares for dessert. They were sooo decadent, it was like eating the interior of a Belgian truffle. I couldn’t finish it. Our meal total without tips was just $ 32 with the«buy one main course get one free» coupon. We tipped $ 10 because our server was fantastic. Very good food, great service, and watch out for how RICH the food is! I’m a girl who can eat, and I was full halfway through the main course.

So, my wife and teenage daughter enter Steve & Rocky’s at 5:10pm on a Saturday. There were about 10 cars in the parking lot so we expected no problem getting a table. Upon entering, the three hostesses barely acknowledged our presence. The restaurant had DOZENS of open tables. One hostess asked«how many» and I said«Three». She looked at her co-worker who proceeded to ask if we had a reservation. I must have looked surprised as I looked toward the wide open restaurant because she said, «I know it doesn’t look like it but we are pretty booked tonight. They’re all coming!» Really?!! Besides the non-credible story, I felt there was something else going on because they didn’t look is in the eye. It was weird. We left but I didn’t believe they were booked solid so I went on OpenTable and made 5:30pm reservations for 3, then 4, and then 6 people without any problem. So, at 5:26, I called her to cancel the OpenTable reservations. She found it under my name and cancelled it politely. I refreshed her memory that we were just there and asked why she wouldn’t seat us but OpenTable worked fine for up to 6 people. After a pause, she stammered something about«We just have to be careful with walk-ins and I have to go by what’s on my screen.» Wondering if they have a dress code we weren’t meeting, I asked her«Is it because we were wearing jeans?» She assured me that was NOT the case. While there may be some minuscule and remote chance she’s telling the truth, I’m skeptical. I really don’t know what’s going on, but I’m irritated enough that I won’t go back there to spend my money. I’m dumbfounded by how we were treated.

As a former employee for many years, I will say with the utmost pride that Steve and Rocky’s has the cleanest back of the house Aka kitchen and dish area… Not that I would but if I had to I would eat on the floor. lol Talk about pride with fantastic food and great service. Chef Steve, Chef Jeff, Duane and Team are probably one of the most spectacular when it comes to cleanliness and attention to detail. Period. The latter review is a total farce and complete nonsense. Health department ratings have always been bar none awesome and quite frankly above average! Ecco should be ashamed. Oh well… I’m a true believer in karma. This place is amazing. If I still lived in MI I would work there in a heartbeat. Clean, passionate and most of all the highest integrity ever. Thanks Chef Steve, Chef Jeff, and Duane!

The two essential parts of a nice restaurant are the atmosphere and the food. Steve and Rocky’s is lacking in both. The host, hostess, and waitstaff seemed like they felt the customers were a bother. When we asked why we were still waiting for 30 minutes past our reservation time we were told«our problem» was that we had 6 people. The 4 person party before us was seated at one of the few larger tables. The one special request we made was for the 6 oz. steak instead of the 9 oz. for our daughter. We got an explanation of «the rules”-that size is only available in the combination plate. We ordered a variety of dishes-none were great. As an aspiring cook my bouillabaisse is better. If good food includes a dollop of love there is definitely none here. Also the décor is weird.

My wife and I recently went here for our anniversary. The food was OK, not great. The service was OK, not great. Quite frankly we expected a little better. The décor is a little out dated, they need to spruce it up a little. Overall not bad, just not what we expected.

My first Thanksgiving with family at a restaurant was solid. The gang was all here from CA, TX, and IL. Close to the ‘burbs that we grew up in, my sister in law choose this place based on their Unilocal reviews. Our party of 16 was seated 10 minutes post reservation time. The hostess was friendly in a stressed out kind of way. The ambiance is modern, yet on the verge of being dated. Very good, friendly service from 2 servers and the drinks and complimentary bread came out in a hurry. Starters arrived in a reasonable amount of time too. And then came the 45 minute wait for the entrees. Cranky kids and adults on Thanksgiving for reasons of hunger is a crime and this place was guilty of causing raised eyebrows. The food itself was good, without being remarkable. Turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes, candied apples, and green beans. Basic, yet good.

Came here with a large group. Our host had not been here before but had heard good things and he was right. The service was top notch. They have an extensive wine list but I noticed the beers are served in pilsner type glasses that I am sure are not 16 oz. I ordered the swordfish on cheddar palenta. The cheddar palenta is really really good and the fish was well cooked and seasoned. I started with a cup of the Smoked Ham and split pea soup. Its good but not spectacular. The menu called out for a shrimp sriracha sauce but I could not taste the sriracha. I am not complaining, the sause was good but I didn’t get a heavy spicy or taste of sriracha, then again i wouldn’t want to bathe my great swordfish steak with the same thing I use at the local fast food Chinese place. As mentioned the wine list was really good: I had a Malbec and a really good Argentinian Blanc. We finished off the night with coffee, again, really good and told the waitress that we did NOT want dessert. She said that she was going to show us anyways and 6 of the 12 people at our table ended up with dessert. Kudos to her for selling it to a bunch of salespeople. The place was packed and it looked like they have a nice bar area. There was a lady playing the piano [I thought it was the radio].

Service is OK Food is of a good quality The roast chicken was fresh and not dry although I am not sure what is was served on… Peculiar schmoosh. My husband had the filet mignon and again it was OK, not the most amazing steak but definitely cooked to order — medium was actually medium. Very busy and we were in and out quickly as it was bed time for our son. Service is not outstanding here, but if you are after something a little more«home style» then this seems to be a good option that is not your standard run of the mill US Chain style food.

Just returned from Steve and Rocky’s and our meals were simply delicious. All the appetizers and meals were multi-flavored and multi-aromatic, simply marvelous. Four of us including beer and wine cost about $ 40 each including tips. There are some places when you spend a $ 100 you have this gnawing, aching regret, but Steve and Rocky’s is one of the places there should be no regrets. The ahi tuna was the best I have ever had over many years and restaurants. The cauliflower appetizer was amazing. A gluten free selection and locally source foods makes this a cutting edge restaurant. I agree with the magazine, one of the finest restaurants in the U.S. Metro Detroit has a restaurant that rivals all the big cities of the world. For those who complained about service in some of the reviews, chill out and let the experience come to you. The restaurant is filled with art work to appreciate from metal work, pottery and art. It is a multi-layered visual experience. I will certainly remember Steve and Rocky’s for our of town guests. Fine dining at a real reasonable price.

Had I written this last night, it would have been a four-star recap. As I write this, the bar-server has just finished her own dinner with her back directly to me. I’ve been sitting here with dirty dishes and empty glasses in front of me for 10 minutes. It’s as if I’m suddenly invisible. The start was as bad, but I held out hope that the service would improve. It did not. If you want UK eat at the bar, come on a Monday or Tuesday, when she had the night off(overheard her tell a regular next to me). Also, skip the lightly smoked range chicken. The chicken itself is moist and flavorful, but the bed of melted Brie-laden noodles was absolutely awful.

I’m not sure I’ve been to this location before but we came here for my girlfriend’s mom’s birthday. They absolutely adore this place for the food and the service. I didn’t get to try any cocktails here but I liked the food mostly. We started with two appetizer specials… a cheese plate centered around a really nice triple cream bleu, candied walnuts, dates and melba toasts which was a perfect starter for the table. The next app was a fried duck egg over steamed or poached lobster… also delicious. For the entrée my girl had the pork loin and sweet potatoes and I had the roasted duckling with rice. The presentations were really nice for both but I didn’t love either of the dishes we ordered. The pork loin was really heavy on the rosemary and the gravy had a smoke taste which killed it for me, the sweet potatoes were done well though… nicely cooked, not soggy and with a savory not overly sweet finish. My duckling was roasted until mahogany and the skin was nicely crisp but the meat was a little dry. The rice was also cooked nicely but it had some herb or spice in it that was a little off putting. That aside I should have ordered a steak anyway so I can’t complain too much. For dessert we ordered the crème brule and a chocolate raspberry concoction wrapped in phyllo and served with ice cream. Both were fantastic and both were gone in a moments notice. Service at the bar was fantastic. Jason took great care of us while their main dining room was bleakly empty. I expect that with the warmer weather people might opt to be on a outdoor patio to dine but all in all I thought this place was A-OK.

I tried to give this place a couple of more chances. The service has not gotten any better(etc. coffee was burnt and it took me forever to get my waitress’s attention when I told her she grabbed my cup by leaving the saucer while spilling coffee from the cup; waitstaff constantly stands talking to each other instead of waiting on us; poor attitude and just seemed to lack care for the service they were giving. I waited and bartended my way through college so I am sensitive to their jobs but they really were poor at it. The food has seemed to have gotten worse. Their bread that everyone loves has gone downhill. It has become tasteless. The entry salads seem as if they are thrown on the plate, often missing or small amounts of what was supposed to have been in the ingredients. The portions have shrunk and lacks the great flavor that used to be what their dishes were known for.

Wasn’t quite sure what to expect with the name of this place, it was throwing me off, is it a sports bar, fine dining, family style, no clue, guest kept it a surprise. As you enter, you have a choice of being seated in the dining area or having a seat at the bar. We chose the bar area, gave a very cozy relaxing feeling. I ordered a raspberry Cosmo and the friend ordered a glass of house red wine, probably the best red wine I’ve tasted offered as a house wine. Friend is good friends with the Exec Chef there and of course we wanted to know what’s a must try. I ordered the lightly smoked roast range chicken and he ordered the roast duckling. The vegetables that each dish was paired up with was the best combination with a poultry dish and cooked/seasoned to perfection. Ordered a couple more glasses of wine to enjoy the vibe of the happening bar. I observed every plate that was brought out to the bar guests and every dish looked appealing. The bar remained packed all night, a waitlist actually began for the bar area. Saw so many great dishes that we want to try next time and we will definitely be back soon.

What they say is true… Don’t judge a book by its cover! Steve & Rocky’s looks like more of a mid range restaurant from the outside… But is very surprising on the inside! The menu is upscale when compared to most other local restaurants… And the food is good. Don’t miss dessert! Hopefully, you’ll be there when the electric piano is going :-) definitely a great touch for Valentines weekend! Aquarium in the center looks nice and clean :-) a must for us! Adding a few more minutes… And a place to sit, we might’ve lounged at the bar :) We got a lot of attention tonight, despite the crowd — and we weren’t the prettiest people in the room :-). Overall, definitely a place to try — and try again!

The mushroom soup is the best, it’s the same as made by Chef Milo at the now closed Golden Mushroom. Soup alone is worth the visit. The filet mignon and salmon were very good, as was the warm poppyseed bread and salad with citrus slices. Service ranges from good to marginal

When traveling, I enjoy finding places like Steve & Rocky’s — local, chef-driven restaurants with a propensity for seasonal daily menus and specialty cocktails. Piano player optional. For the most part, Steve & Rocky’s delivers solid fare with no-nonsense service, and it is worth checking out if you’re in the area, especially if you’ve already dined at the Toasted Oak in the Baronette Renaissance hotel. I love a menu with specialty cocktails, seasonal drinks and wine recommendations. The night our party visited, I enjoyed a basil-grapefruit martini made with Belvedere vodka. The first was so delicious I ordered a second. Then things got a little weird. My second drink looked, smelled, and tasted significantly different than the first. I love a good Greyhound, but this was not what I’d ordered, and the drink special specifically touted local basil. When I brought this to our server’s attention, he told me they’d simply strained this cocktail better and that different bartenders don’t always make it the same. Hmm. So what about the large grapefruit pieces in my up glass? He did bring me a plate of basil leaves, though I would have preferred a do-over from the bar. First course was also a special — oysters on the half shell — and they were tasty briny beauties with a little more grit than I normally like. No matter, many restaurants get this wrong, and I’ve been spoiled by the likes of Kimball House in Decatur, GA. My main course came highly recommended, the Alaskan King crab bowl, and it was very, very good, but… the egg was just a little overcooked, spoiling what I’m positive would have been a lovely yolk-infused sauce to make the whole dish really sing. So there you have it. Maybe my expectations were too high? Maybe our party was too large to fully take advantage of the kitchen? Either way, the food and service delivered a solid three-star rating. Next time I’m in the area, I’ll probably go back with a smaller group and see what the daily menu specials bring.
