great food! everything is good! quite expensive though

This place doesn’t deliver to my house so I do have to pick it up. Going through Nutley through all the traffic lights is a little bit of a hassle. There’s a place a bit closer to me that also does sushi 50% off on some nights this place doesn’t do that I would search for another one although I do like to sushi here it’s a little bit inconvenient.

This place is ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!!! I see that it’s a small shop but still the sushi was terrible. The fish is all pre sliced and old. The ginger is canned and the wasabi looked like it was sitting out for three days. When we ordered Mochi we saw that it was four hunks of black ice. This was not only completely negligent but also embarrassing.

I really hate giving bad reviews but I have to. I am a sushi lover and have tried many places around this area. I am not at all impressed by their rolls. They did not taste fresh and were poorly made. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because they delivered in a timely manner. Aki or Momoya in Bloomfield is 20x better.

Quaint place for some delicious sushi! Meals are reasonably priced, especially the lunch specials. The food is always quick and fresh!

I love this place! I’ve been coming here for a year & I always have fresh sushi. The owners are very sweet & they always do a great job with making the rolls. It’s hard to mess up sushi, but a lot of places have very low quality ingredients & slop together a roll… not here! For a small business, they are extremely clean, have AC, & do an excellent job with orders. They also take credit/​debit.

If I could, I would order Volcano & Gold Mountain rolls every week from here! Our kids love the miso soup and beef teriyaki. The server and sushi chef are always very welcoming.

I absolutely love this place! The sushi here is amazing and fresh! By far the best Miso soup I’ve had so far. It’s very small and private and the owner’s are extremely nice and polite. Prices are reasonable. The only negative I see holding this place from a five star rating is the horrible parking. It’s pretty terrible.

Sushi is always fresh! I’ve been coming here for over three years and it is my favorite sushi spot until this day.

I came here recently with my bf and despite being a random weekday night and not crowded the service was terrible. We were there for probably almost 2 hours just to have a couple rolls. We asked for waters and the waitress never even brought them so we just went over to the fridge ourselves and took them. It seems as if it was just her and the chef running the place including handling phones and take out and delivery orders but still the inside wasn’t crazy. She never came to check on us and we practically had to tackle her just to get her attention to give us the check. The quality is mediocre nothing crazy. The menu for special rolls is pretty limited, I feel like everything had eel, crab or shrimp (i dont like eel and my bf is allergic to shellfish). The prices arent the best. We just wanted something right down the road but I think in the future I will stick to momoya in bloomfield — much better atmosphere, service and quality.

This is our all time favorite sushi in the area. Service is fast, friendly and the sushi is absolutely delicious. We’ve come back time and time… and time again.

The place is BYOB which is cool if you are into that kind of stuff. It seems like most sushi places in the area are the same.
Service was average and basic. Nothing over the top or amazing to talk about. Our orders were taken and the food was bright to our table. Then we didn’t see our waitress until she had our check in her hand.
The food was plated nice and clean which is always appreciated.
I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat sushi here because there are better places to eat a am in the area I wouldn’t hesitate to go back.

I’ve been living in Nutley since I was 5 years old and I’ve tried many other places but by far this place is one of the best sushi restaurants I’ve ever been to. Owners are very friendly and they always greet with a smile. If you are looking for some good sushi, this place will end your search. YOU MUST try this place! I always get Tempura Udon and Pharoh’s Lobster roll at this place. IT’S AMAZING! Server is a nice lady and she’s very friendly and the owner who makes sushi has been there over 15 years. I absolutely love this place, it has been my go-​to-​spot for years for different occasions. Bring your date, and a bottle of wine, and enjoy your meal!

Been going here for 10 years. How this place isn’t packed on weekends is beyond me. Reasonable prices except for maybe their special rolls.
Fish is fresh. Rolls are excellent. Owners are friendly. Thankfully they now deliver.

We just moved from NYC and needed a good sushi place… Well we found it! It has amazing specialty rolls. Our favorite… Fire mountain! Delivery is fast. Fresh fish

I ordered the Spider Roll for take out and it was delicious. I gave two stars because I thought it was expensive ($ 11.50) for one roll that did not include any sauces or side soup. Comparably speaking, I can get more for my buck at other sushi restaurants in the area.

Sushi Ya is in my opinion the best delivery sushi in the nutley area. The spicy tuna is always fresh and delivery is relatively punctual.

Sushiya is by far one of the best sushi places I have been to. The fish is always fresh and their rolls are delicious! You have to try the Pharaoh’s Lobster Roll — amazing! The prices are reasonable considering how much you would pay for the same meal in Hoboken or Montclair and the quality is great.
The woman who always takes our order is very friendly and doesn’t mind the 21 questions I tend to ask about the rolls and ingredients. They have never given me an issue substituting ingredients or putting something on the side for me, like spicy mayo for example.
The place itself is small and very simply decorated but I’ve never had an issue getting a table. Based on the number of people who walk in to pick up takeout I’d say most people pick it up to go. Don’t walk in expecting a fancy atmosphere. It’s very simply decorated, nothing special with the décor. It’s a great place to stop in for a quick dinner and it’s BYOB which is always a plus in my book!

I read Jessica’s review about her take out order. Quite inconceivable. There are no sauces on sushi. We’ve eaten at Sushiya a dozen times and got take out tonight. A person has to be careful in transporting food when you get take out. If you jumble up your food it’s not the restaurant’s fault. We got AAC and Alaska rolls, green salads, and miso soup. A great light meal. Everything was superb.
I’ve also noticed that quite a few locals get take out at Sushiya. This small restaurant is a gem and worthy of greater patronage.

I was surprised that this place isn’t bigger on the inside. When we arrived on a Friday night around 8pm, it was definitely busy but there are so many workers that it’s like a well-​oiled machine. Service is pretty efficient, and my tea cup was never empty!
Food-​wise, everything tasted great. The fish was fresh and our sushi boat was immaculately prepared.
It’s definitely one of the better sushi places in the area.
