I came here recently with my man on a Friday night. It was surprisingly quiet and we were sat immediately. Loved the décor – simple, not pretentious, homey, romantic! Our server was very sweet. We shared the bacon meatballs appetizer which came with tomato chutney and a bbq sauce – very tasty. But what really sent us over the edge was the Guinness braised short ribs. One poke with my fork and they totally fell apart. OMG. Cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. We were practically battling it out for the last bite! For the sides we chose garlic whipped mashed potatoes and mac and cheese – both were scrumptious. And for dessert we had a chocolate lava cake, which wasn’t bad at all, but nothing to write home about. Overall, a terrific experience and we will definitely be back again.

Really sold place. We went to the Nyack street fair, and walked in with three kids. They greeted us immediately, seated us promptly, and the bus person gave me a run down on the draft beers, which was a pleasant bit. The waitstaff were great with our kids, and service was efficient and pleasant. The brunch menu caught our eye, and was reasonably priced at 14 per person. Once we went inside though, we decided on the lunch and dinner instead. My wife had the cauliflower dinner — who knew you could have a cauliflower steak — and was very pleasantly surprised by how well seasoned and flavorful it was. The short rib quesadillas were bland, but the ingredients were quality, just add a bit more seasoning please! I had the prohibition burger, which was topped with short rib and caramelized onion. I enjoyed the quality of the beef, but it could’ve used a bit more seasoning as well. The overall flavor was excellent. Had mac and cheese for the baby. It was… mac and cheese. Nothing special, but definitely not the pre-packaged stuff. Mixed drinks were great — I had a perfectly spicy bloody mary made exactly the way I asked. Sangria was potent and very good. Great selection of beers as well. Kids had grilled cheeses, which were served on nice thick bread. Definitely worth a stop. Quality food and good service at a fair price. It was a very clean restaurant, and there was a good vibe, kinda hipster, to the place. If I’m in Nyack again I would definitely go back.

We went here for Mother’s Day. They had an awesome brunch menu or you could order off of the regular menu. We got the cauliflower buffalo bits… Amazing! The pastrami chicken wings… Also amazing! For lunch my daughter got the French toast from the brunch menu and she loved it. My husband and I both got the prohibition burger. Wow! It’s a bother with short rib and Carmelized onions on top. He got his with fries, but no bun and cauliflower Mash for me! I loved that they had«no carb» choices. We will definitely be going back.

We LOVE this place. Pretty much going once a month right now. For appetizers you can’t go wrong between the Buffalo Cauliflower Bites and the Grilled Cheese Shots. I keep meaning to try the mini meatballs but I can’t pass up those other two every time I go there. For main courses there’s always a fantastic choice of specials and the beer selection is top notch, as well as some pretty tasty original cocktail ideas. Try it out if you haven’t already been.

Came here with a bunch of my friends for my birthday. We were seated upstairs. We ordered the pastrami wings, bacon meatballs and buffalo cauliflower. All the apps were very tasty. The standout was the cauliflower bites. They had a nice kick to them. The wings could have used more pastrami spice. For my main course I had the cheesesteak. It was very good. The meat was tender and roasted peppers and onions added a nice flavor to it. My only issue was that our waiter was not attentive enough to our party of 7.

Our food was… Okay. Wasn’t blown away by any means. We had the pastrami seasoned wings… Which were a bit bland. The pork belly BLT and the Cheesesteak sandwich. My Cheese steak was very oily and lacked flavor. The BLT was ok with 3 slices of pork belly. We had the bacon meatballs which were tasty but only three and also felt like there was a lot of bread filler. And we had the Mac & Cheese as a side… The Mac and cheese was VERY good. Beer wise, our server had limited knowledge on the beer menus and constantly came back telling us they were out of certain items. The hostess ended up having the most knowledge of the beer scenario. Overall the experience was just… Okay. Odds are slim we’d go again.

Owner. Yes, you. You are rude to your staff. I’m a regular. But your attitude is a turn off and makes me not want to come back. The restaurant is a great space, the food and drinks and service are 4 out of 5 stars, in my view.(Great ribs.) But, you. Watching you literally step in front of a waitress and physically cut her off from speaking to me only to ask me where I’d like to be seated — the very same question she was asking me – is appalling. Your customers are in their own lives employees too. So we identify with your employees, not you, and we don’t want your mistreatment of your staff as a sideshow to our meals. Put yourself in check, get some humility on the quick, and get another outlet for whatever frustrations and angers and demons quite obviously haunt you, and stop — I MEANSTOP — taking your vulgar aggressions out on your employees. It is disgusting and you should be ashamed.

I came here on a Sunday evening with my SO around 8:45pm. There was literally no one in the place except 4 people sitting at the bar. I’m not entirely sure if that’s normal for a Sunday evening as this was my first time here. I had an opportunity to look at the menu before going to the restaurant so I already knew what I wanted. I ordered the roasted half chicken along with the mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. My SO ordered one of the special’s of the night which was a duck dish on a bed of arugula and potatoes. While we were waiting for our food, our waiter brought out some bread with butter. There were 3 kinds of bread they brought out. One of them was rye, the other was some other cranberry concoction and I don’t remember the 3rd kind. I honestly could’ve done without the bread being that I really didn’t enjoy it. Our food arrived in a decent amount of time and we dug in. I Now, my roasted half chicken was decent enough. It wasn’t anything great but it wasn’t terrible. It had a crispy skin, which is obviously a good thing, cause no one likes soggy chicken skin, gross. The mashed potatoes were instant and I’ll just leave it at that. The macaroni and cheese was probably the best part of my entire meal. I’ve tried several mac and cheeses over the past couple of months and I’ve got to say this one was better than all I’ve tried BUT still not the best I’ve had. I tried my SO’s potatoes which tasted better than my instant mash but I didn’t try anything else. He said his duck was salty but the bitterness of the arugula helped cut the saltiness. The next day we both had our leftovers. The saltiness of the duck really got intensified the next day, my chicken was«meh» but the mac and cheese was really the saving grace. Overall this is an ok place. Our service was alright, I’ve had much better elsewhere and the food wasn’t bad. Based on the reviews of the food, I would come here again to try out the other items on the menu but I won’t be picking this as my go-to spot.

I obviously need to visit and explore Nyack more often. I only go down to Nyack for one reason and one reason only, 4th of July. However, today was a little more special because I was meeting with a friend and we randomly chose this restaurant. I won’t beat around the bush. I will definitely be back here. I ordered the Half Roasted Chicken and it’s EXACTLY what I wanted; very well done, juicy, just the right amount of seasoning and spices. Their macaroni and cheese was very delicious and our waitress was the sweetest. I really liked her baby blue nail polish. I’m definitely going back to try the steak and some of their drinks. Our waitress recommended that we come on a Friday or Saturday night. So it’s a date! Looks like I won’t have to keep traveling to NYC to get a little f*cked up! Woohoo!

I’m sad to say but this place has gone severely downhill since it opened about a year and a half ago. My husband and I think they must have lost their chef or there is new ownership because the quality of the food has changed significantly since it opened. We had brunch here today and chose one of the four $ 14 brunch specials, which come with a free bloody Mary, mimosa, or unlimited coffee, tea or soda. Let’s just say thank goodness the drink was free because the meal alone was probably worth $ 5. We both ordered the short rib hash, which was made of(what seemed to be) small pieces of left over short rib from the night before, some overcooked hashbrown type potatoes, and covered with a very very under poached egg. As I broke open the egg I thought to myself, I hope I don’t get sick from this runny egg white! We were there 2 weeks ago and I had to send back my chicken sandwich because it had the consistency of rubber. They gladly replaced it with a(mediocre) burger and gave us a round of drinks on the house, but the quality of chicken they were putting out is inexcusable. I will give them the benefit of the doubt on this one though since I had the same chicken sandwich about a month prior and it was great. Maybe it was just an off night. The staff is always accommodating and the beer selection is on point, but I would just stick to a liquid diet at this place and fill up on food before you go.

ONWEEKENDS and WHENBUSYYOURBETTEROFFATJOHNNYCAKESNEXTDOOR. If it wasn’t for the upgraded atmosphere in a town that loves staying innovated they wouldn’t be so busy. The owner is extremely rude and sits friends before paying guests that are on the reservation list. I was shocked the way he spoke acting above those who eat in his Restaraunt and talk down to paying customers. Amazing food, Once sat down: Good Service but CANNOTKEEP A WORKINGRESERVATIONBOOK which could affect there business in the long run. Stuck up owner: your a new restaraunt you better get that together before you become old news! It’s time for them to get things together. IF you are looking for a relaxing dinner on a weekend night your better off at the several other Hot Spots in Nyack.

Short Ribs were awesome. Fish Chips were very good. This was our first time here but certainly not the last. The bar is well done and they kept the old world charm of the building.

Came here for lunch after hiking at Harriman State park. First impression … why is it so dark in here? We wanted to sit by the windows to get some sunlight, but there was a big reservation coming in so we ended up at a big tall dark booth. No biggie. I got all the privacy space to myself and my partner in crime. I wanted a burger so … The Prohibition burger with braised short rib? Yes please! With balsamic onion jam and molten beer cheese … doesn’t it sound delicious? Well. it was just decent for me. I actually enjoy a burger from Shake Shack a bit more. My guy went with Short rib hash with poached egg and bacon bits(from brunch menu). I got to taste it … it was also good. Bacon makes everything good(except now it gives you cancer. boohoo). Then why 3 stars? Well. I would say 3.5. I basically left feeling just ‘eh’ … your ordinary pub food. If you want a bar scene with sports on TV, yes. come here.

I had never heard of this place before, the reviews on Unilocal were great so we decided to check it out. We went on the weekend of the town’s Hallowe’en parade, so it was crazy to find parking, but, once we got there, we met our friends and got a lovely, high-backed velvet booth at the back. You couldn’t hear the background noise outside at all, it was great. The service was fantastic, the server was dressed as Peter Pan(everyone was in costume)…he was trying to stick to character but came off a little more like Puck from A Midsummer’s Night Dream than Peter Pan! The food was amazing — you have to have the braised short ribs, the cauliflower steak and the mac & cheese. Also, the cocktails were REALLY good and they have a huge craft beer selection(a must!) — great place to go for drinks and appetizers or have a nice 3 course meal with close friends OR even a romantic dinner. Have kids? We have a 2 year old that enjoyed the kids menu and a high chair! Would have been a 5-star review, but, it was a bit overpriced for the portion size and for the location. Still, we will certainly go again!

Wife and I showed up for lunch on a recent Sunday in October. The television over the bar was showing college volleyball. Quite odd. We were given the lunch menu and the brunch menu. The latter had 4 items and they were out of one of them. The waiter also informed us that there were several items from the lunch menu that were unavailable. Unfortunately, they were some of the more interesting menu items(Sriracha Glazed Peanuts, Buffalo Cauliflower Bites, and the Charcuterie Board) Soup of the day isn’t offered on brisk Sunday afternoons. Apparently, bread isn’t available during brunch. We began with the Pickled Shrimp ‘Shots’ and an order of the Fried Green Tomatoes. The shrimp was really just pickled shrimp with cocktail sauce served in shot glasses. I wanted the aforementioned bread to sop up the extra cocktail sauce. The tomatoes were quite bland and the bbq aioli needed to be kicked up a bit. My main course was the Prohibition Burger, house ground patty, braised short rib, balsamic onion jam and molten beer cheese on brioche with limp fries and two slices of bread and butter pickles. My medium rare request yielded a well done burger that was quite under seasoned. The cheese and short ribs were hard to find. No free refills on the house brewed iced tea. Too bad!

Awesome. We hauled to get here on a drive to MA from NC. They did not disappoint. The Prohibition Burger was unreal: every component of the burger made it rich and unique. We also shared the daily Mac and cheese. It was rich and creamy, with green beans infused and a crispy melted cheese on top. Divine. The bartender had some really great music playing and she was very knowledgable about the beer selection. We tried some new beers that we’d never had. I would absolutely recommend this place to a friend. Wish I lived closer so I could be a regular! Great work, team.

Stumbled upon this gem for the first time at 12:30AM and stayed until last call — amazing beer selection on tap and seasonals always updated. Went for the second time today to enjoy some food — delicious charcuterie board and sirracha peanuts. Host and waitstaff were attentive, polite, and well versed in beer suggestions — busy with a dinner crowd but still went above and beyond to give us a great food experience. Highly recommended if you enjoy rustic décor with a vintage ambiance. Fantastic music played all night from The Pixies to The Yeah Yeah Yeahs(I appreciate the good taste) and is a total experience. Parking is a breeze — municipal lots free after 6:00PM. Probably the best restaurant on Main Street! Seriously, do yourself a favor and check it out.

Spent yesterday afternoon wandering around Nyack and became a bit hungry. Spotted Prohibition River and decided to stop in. Well, not exactly the restaurant, it was more like a table that we liked. The front is open and the table was located inside but close enough to the sidewalk where we could look out but be isolated from the commotion. For us, this was enough. I had no expectations of the food or drink and was thrilled just finding a cool location to chill out. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Kind of like an upscale Irish Pub with a bit more refinement. Dark paneling, vintage Guinness posters and large leather upholstered booths abound with a spacious bar area and tables close to the street. Again, no expectations. Friendly waiter brought the menus and I was mildly surprised that I could order brunch mid afternoon. For $ 15 had what was probably the best bacon, sausage & cheddar omelet I have ever eaten with potatoes that were, for lack of a better work, spectacular and a free Bloody Mary that I would have gladly paid for because it too was excellent. Our waiter mentioned that we missed the mark because he thought the short rib hash was even better than what we ordered and what we ordered was amazing. I have not had a go to place in Nyack for quite a while. That ended yesterday. I highly recommend Prohibition River and cannot wait to return there soon to try their hash. Great, great place.
