Poor costumer service. I went today with my family. We always eat there when we visit Oak Glen. I’m pregnant and close to my due date. After our day there, I ran out of water and was very thirsty. I sat down to rest while my mom went to the restaurant to ask for a small cup of water. A server REFUSED to give my mom the cup of water. She even dared to claim they did not have any water. It will definitely be the last time I’ll spend money there. Every time I’ve been to this restaurant, I pay $ 40-$ 80 for their overpriced food, but they couldn’t give a tired pregnant woman a small cup of water. God, not even a sip of water.

I really wanted to like this restaurant, and I was hoping that the 45 minute wait outside in the cold was going to be worth it. We were a medium sized group of 7 all excited about trying out their hot soup and sandwiches and apple desert. Once seated, it took them 20 minutes just to show us their menu. And another 20 minutes to come take our order. The place was about half full so they weren’t busy. Then the wait 20…30…45 minutes after we ordered our food I noticed that the family who were behind us while waiting outside was getting up and heading toward the cashier to pay for their meal. What? those guys were behind us and were now done with their meal and meanwhile we haven’t even got our food yet? We finally got up and said something to the cashier who went into the kitchen and eventually our food started to arrive. We ended up waiting over 2 hours and 15 minutes just to get our food which was average at best. The last of our party to get their meal waited an incredible 2.5 hours. Unbelievable! Next time we’re just going to drive down to Yucaipa for our dinner.

Hands down the best crunchy chicken fried steak around or try the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy! A must have is a slice of mile high apple pie, but the secret is to ask for extra cinnamon syrup sauce poured on the side for added flavor!

This place is a good stop for some great food. Initially we were a little skeptical when we walked in. We weren’t greeted by anyone, and then a waitress poked her head around a corner and told us to just sit down at the booth. However, once we sat down, the whole experience changed for the better. I ordered the chicken fried steak with eggs, hashbrowns, and biscuits & gravy… Wow… Amazing! My wife ordered the ultimate grilled cheese and she could stop saying good things about it. The waitress was very nice when she was able to make to the table. I think they may have been a little understaffed initially. We did show up a half-hour after they opened. It’s a place that I will be going back to very soon!

Great place for lunch/dinner if you’re in the area! I ordered their veggie burger and it was tasty! I hear this place gets extremely packed during the weekend. I usually stop by after a hike during the week. Highly recommend it! Very friendly staff and helpful as well. The décor is extremely outdated but that’s what gives this place charm.

Food is okay, but o my goodness service is awful! When we went there it wasn’t busy, but the staff were running around like they didn’t know how to prioritize their tasks. Waiters didn’t seem too happy to be there and were rude. We never got our waters refilled, they forgot one of our meals and part of another one. They tried charging us for the meal we never got and I asked them to get my other half of my meal from the kitchen and box it because getting the check took forever. It’s a cute little place although I always feel like bad service makes dining unpleasant.

Our policy: You will never go away hungry after eating all your food because: «Seconds are on us!» That alone is worth 5 stars. Great food & excellent customer service. What more could you ask for?

It was pretty bad overall. I will say the breakfast burrito was quite decent but all the other items were bland and the waitress/hostess was pretty unfriendly. We had to wait outside for 10 minutes in the cold and when we were finally allowed in(after being snapped at to wait outside) the place was mostly empty. On top of that they had a creeper in a reindeer suit that absolutely terrified my kid. I suppose that was a bonus because he was so scared that we actually enjoyed a peaceful meal. In all seriousness, check out the line for this place vs Laws. Having had both I can see why.

This review is specifically for the restaurant. Going to this place is a treat. I love going there with my family during the winter. The food is excellent, hardy American food. I personally like to get the chili bread bowl and to share the apple empanada with vanilla ice cream with my family. Sometimes I’ll even share a salad with my brother. They make the ranch dressing from scratch, which is amazing! The place itself is super cozy, full of homey decorations and all kinds of Americana. Usually they have good service at this place. If you finish one full portion and you’re still hungry, they will give you seconds for free. Today was my first negative experience with this place. I will not name or describe the waitress, but I hope that you as a patron never have to end up with her. From the moment she started serving us, she made a lot of mistakes. I understand that right now during the holiday season is a really busy time of year and it can make any job really stressful. But this waitress made today’s experience a little sucky. First, she somehow heard me say that I wanted two Coronas for my brother and I, yet she heard Coke for my mother’s boyfriend. It’s an easy mistake, I understand, and was easy to get lost in translation. But this was just a harbinger for sloppy service. Then, she brought the whole table glasses of water. It was a nice gesture, but she’s ignoring the fact that California is going through a drought right now. Waiters should only ideally give water to customers who ask for it. There were three empty tables next to ours. For some reason, this waitress chooses to seat two people in the table directly next to ours.(Apparently she knew the customers in question.) Americans commonly don’t like to sit directly next to another group of people. We don’t like being anywhere near the personal space of others. This is kind of an unspoken rule of our culture, so it really shouldn’t have come as a surprise to her that we’d be a little uncomfortable with another group of people sitting directly next to us when there are plenty of other places(including booths!) to seat them. The food took longer than usual to come out today. Again, busy holiday season, I understand. But today, the cook completely gipped me. Normally the bread bowls are pretty deep and have more chili than I was given today. Basically, I was given a giant bread bowl with a tiny dent in it that had a little bit of chili slopped on top of it. I was disappointed about that. But I’m the type who doesn’t really complain to a person’s face about something.(That’s why I use Unilocal!) So, I was really hoping she’d be courteous enough to use the«free seconds» policy to give me just another scoop or two of chili and notice that I was a bit shortchanged when I had finished the chili, but was left with a huge bread bowl in my plate. I decided to just ask for a box for it instead and to let it go. She gives me one tiny box to hold the whole bread bowl. Noticing that it wouldn’t do, she proposes to show me how to contain it in said box with a bag. But because she was taking a while to come back, I just decided to give my brother the box for his food and to use the plastic bag itself for the bread bowl.(Since there was no chili left in it, anyways.) When she comes back, she asks if we want dessert and we decide to order our usual item. We had forgotten what it was called, so we had mistakenly called it an apple fritter. So instead of giving us a dessert menu like most waiters would, we end up having to play 20 questions with her to describe the dessert. We would have continued if I hadn’t asked for the dessert menu myself. I knew it would take a while, so I asked her for a refill on my Coke. Never ended up getting that refill. I don’t know if she was having a bad day or what. And I apologize for being too harsh on her if that was the case. But from what I witnessed, it was just poor service. But, I’m still giving this place 5 stars because I love it and have great memories there. One bad incident won’t make me hate the place forever.

Only had pie here… Yummalicious not only was the apple filling and ice cream good but the crust on the mile high pie was awesome! Only downside, the seating area was messy.

Mediocre food, nice patio, waitress was a b. Patio was nice. I’ve been here before and food was good but this time it was poor to mediocre. They just stopped serving breakfast five minutes after we were seated. That’s what we came for but couldn’t order except for the breakfast burrito. Which was mediocre, beef dip sandwich was not good at, not even a little. French fries were okay, the breaded kind with the seasoned salt that come pre made. Apple bread was not bad. Waitress was apparently having a bad day and it showed. We will not come here again.

We’ve been coming here for years as part of our fall apple picking tradition and my dad has been eating here for forever. The last few years have let us down so much, next year we’ll sadly be trying elsewhere. As far as the wait time goes, that’s just common knowledge that they get packed on weekends at prime times. We always get there around 1030-11 and have no problem getting a table pretty quickly. But we have watched the line grow and grow as the day goes on so if you don’t like lines then get there earlier. The food is almost always really good. The chicken fried steak is bottomless and delicious. I got the beef dip and it was good, not the best. The breakfast burrito was shockingly AMAZING. The year before my dad got the chicken pot pie and it is worth the wait! Probably the best we’ve ever had. The letdown: the service. Being someone that’s worked in food before these people appall me. We were seated outside this year and it appeared our waitress was the only one for the entire section. And she just kept disappearing in the back. We must’ve sat there for about half an hour waiting to just order drinks. Eventually we got them but she ran off before we could even order food! Eventually anther server showed up but every time we flagged her down to ask for something she told us our real waitress would be with us in just a second. What?! When they brought my dads milk out I noticed particles on the inside of the glass and he had them bring another. Guess what? MOREFLOATERS! Are you serious? Who doesn’t check for that when the customer LITERALLY just complained about that. The year before our waitress was painfully slow and also kept disappearing; we must’ve been there two hours(for four people). She eventually apologized and said it was her first day. What?! Who makes a NEW waitress first day a Sunday?! Sadly this year was our test to see if it’s gotten better but the service and attitude of the workers just aren’t worth it.

Apple picking… APPLEANNIES… this will be fun. Does anybody think it’s going to rain? This line is pretty short this year… We were sat outside, which is fine with me. A few sprinkles fell, a few more and then it was heavier, but not as heavy as my second serving of chicken fried steak. I eat very fast and as I was sitting there enjoying the rainy weather, the waitress asks me, would you like another??? A little conversation followed, about eating till your full and I said sure. I like the food here, I’m sure it’s common place diner food, but I like it, I like the tradition of coming and enjoying time with my family. As delicious as gravy and breaded meat is, one serving is always enough! Don’t be tempted or pressured by your group. Also add a pie to your bill, mile high or French crumble.

8 of us and 3 babies went there last Sunday, the busiest and event filled day of the year! The line was long to get in but it went really quick. The waitresses and servers were excellent. The food, hamburgers, Chili bread bowls(gigantic and could easily feed 2 hungry folks with some left over!) The prices were very reasonable. Did not have their Vanilla Ice Cream laden Apple Pie but did notice the bowls and portions were huge. We all look forward to the next trip.

tl;dr: Pies are eye opening to behold but beyond the wow factor, half of it is air on the inside… Geez they have menus for everything: Annie’s Breakfast, Annie’s Lunch, Annie’s Favorites, Annie’s Dinner, a senior’s menu, a kid’s menu, I just wanted some pie… We stopped by Apple Annie’s of the cute name near the end of a long day at Oak Glen stuffing our faces here and there so we were not in the mood for more to eat on the spot; we figured we could take a slice or two to go and devour it later. They’re located pretty prominently in front of the Oak Tree Village parking lot so there’s no fee to visit Annie’s. There are a lot of door’s to try but the pies are right on the corner of the building. On one side they have dozens of whole pies that you can see on the rack, but we went around the corner where the line was forming out the door where you can buy pie by the slice… An amusing anecdote: the associate who was ringing up our slices to go was initially fumbling with her handheld calculator that was running out of batteries. That was when she whipped out her smartphone and recalled her calculator app. After watching all of this, I finally realized that this teenager was relying on a calculator in order to make change for us, something that I’ve taken for granted that most people could do in their head, particularly one who was tasked to perform the duties of a cashier. Another example to me of having the most sophisticated technology available at the disposal of the dumbest people using it… Back to the pies. Like a bimbo they’re beautiful to look at but there’s a lot of air on the inside. Their signature 5lb mile-high pie has a terrific high rise crust but is quite hollow just beneath the surface. The apple fruit is great tasting with firmness in bite and texture, I think I prefer the simplicity of the regular pie over the French Crumb which was a little more cinnamon-y. A little surprisingly, the crust was also thinner and less flakey than other pies that are not as high and filled with less fruit. Since we only bought slices I thought these pies might be more impressive to keep whole to bring over to somebody’s house for dessert… The pie is nice to try once but I don’t think I need to repeat…

I have always made the drive here for their apple pies, perfect for the holidays. All of their apple pastries are just awesome and the staff has always been helpful and patient with me. Today I had breakfast here, eggs and potatoes. A simple breakfast that a lot of places can’t seem to get right. Not Annie’s, they nailed it the potatoes were one if the best I’ve had. One more thing I thought was neat if you finish your meal and are still hungry seconds are on the house. What more could you ask for?

After a long day of adventures in Oak Glen we decided to grab a bite to eat before heading to our next destination. I read on the Oak Glen website that Apple Annie bakes a mean chicken pot pie as their Sunday Special and luck for us we were visiting on a Sunday, so naturally we had to try it out — luckily in the knick of time! I completely understand that small towns close early but closing at 6pm for dinner seems pretty early to me. Thankfully we knew this in advance and started waiting at 5:15 pm. After about a 40 min wait, we were seated and promptly ordered a chicken pot pie to share. It’s definitely big enough for two and quite a steal for like $ 11 or something like that. If you can finish one by yourself, you can get a second one on the house — talk about good olé’ hospitality! The crust was flaky and the fillings were very creamy. However, I didn’t get much chicken, which sorta defeats the purpose of chicken pot pie. Otherwise it was a-okay meal.

We enjoy eating at Apple Annie’s when we venture up to Oak Glen. There is usually a bit of a wait, but if you are in line, they have markers that notate about how long the wait is from that point. We arrived about 6PM with a group of 5 and a child. The wait on the sign said it would be about 20 minutes, which was how long it took to be seated out on the deck. The waitress took our order and the food came out about 15 minutes later. At the table, we ordered two chili bread bowls, fried chicken, chicken fried steak, apple pie a la mode, and an apple empanada a la mode. The dinner was average, unfortunately the soup and chicken fried steak were lukewarm. The fried chicken was piping hot but came out with French fries instead of the mashed potatoes my sister ordered. We let the waitress know, and she brought out the correct potato order on a new plate. The chili in the bread bowl was huge, we split one between two people and still had quite a bit left over. #1 thing, by far, here was the apple empanada a la mode. Far superior than the apple pie. Next time, we will come back just for the empanada and skip dinner.
