No longer talk of the town now officially known as LA Frontera or The Border night club Mexican/Latino bar

This is one of the dirtier, more run down bars in the area, a den of debauchery as I like to call it. Everything from the door man, to the«alcohol», to the rape scene bathroom is just downright awful. The doorman is rude as f***, he seems to think that he is some kind of a cop just because he has a shield patch on his vest, a tazer on his hip, and a dark black security shirt that is 2 sizes too small for him, what a douche. If that wasn’t bad enough, he scams a sliding scale fee out of who ever is dumb enough to pay it and on top of that, he gets all up in your crack when he pats you down, I’m all for security, but man this dude gets too friendly. Once you get in, things start going south real fast, don’t let these bar hags fool you with their house special cocktails, they don’t have a clue what they are making, it’s nothing more than heavy syrup and watered down bottom shelf liquor. These drinks wouldn’t be so bad if they at least had a kick, but sadly they are weak as S***, you might as well drink a piss water bud, same thing as far as I’m concerned. Lastly, stay the hell away from their bathrooms, it’s like hepatitis in a closet, the last time I was here; someone S*** on the floor, and there was a used condom in the sink, hella nasty. Stay away from here at all cost.

Pssssss, I’m going to give this place one star just for having the nerve and audacity to call themselves«Talk of the Town»!!! Had they not been so disrespectful and just changed the name when they bought it I might had given them 2 stars, if they had kept the recipes and menu the same I might have given them 5. This was once my favorite restaruants, I used to go there all the time. Even after I left for college my last stop before I would return to school was always«Talk of the Town». After I joined the Marine Corps I would come home on leave, my last stop was always«Talk of the Town» until one year I came home before I went on a 6 month deployment and they were closed. I remember standing by the chained door thinking how is this possible!!! After college, after the Marine Corps, after living abroad for a little over a year I returned home. To my surprise«Talk of the Town» had reopenned so I immediately pulled over! I walked in and I noticed a change with the kitchen right off, it was kind of set up cafeteria style and it was only one gringo working in the kitchen. Not that, that’s a big deal but«Talk of the Town» used to be real authentic Mexican Cuisine with a real authentic Oakland feel. So I use GRINGO in the truiest sense of the word FOREIGNER. He was definately a foreigner to Mexi-can Cuisine and more familiar with the Mexi-can’t way of doing things, and he seemed as out of place on International Blvd(E14 for all the olé school locals) as I would be at a Garth Brooks Concert. I will say he was really nice, he explained to me that the previous owners had some personal disputes about the business, one sued the other and they were forced by the courts to sell the business. Which made sense because there’s no way they would had ever went out of business due to lack of clientele, that place was always busy. He then said that he had made a few minor improvement on the recipes and suggested that I give him a chance. I did, and I’ll always regret doing so, my taste buds were prepared for«Talk of the Town», but instead they got a cheap cheap cheap horrible version of a Chevy’s burrito. I really wanted to slap the —- out of him after the first bite, but being that I was no longer in the Marine Corps, and no longer a kid running the streets of Oakland, this type of behavior wouldn’t be socially acceptable, but at first I wanted to. That was a really big day for me, I realized that once a restaruant closes, changes management, owners, chefs, my favorite waitress, bus boy, or whatever you can’t really expect for things to remain the same.

Man, growing up me and my dad went here like every week, Now… ewwh. It is shame I loved the taco with whole beans… what memories of looking over the juke box over and over while papa’s had a beer at the bar, while waiting for our tacos. A wait that seemed so long. But this is just a memory… Now ewwh. Like13 years ago this place was 5 stars. Even after I moved out of Oakland me and my girl would ride the good olé ACTransit from castro valley just to get some PINCHE tacos. Now I wont even drive my car for their pinche tacos… It seems like after the shut down it never came back… I miss you old talk of the town. Some great things just come an end.

New ownership, WTF, man? How do you compromise a perfect burrito recipe? Many, MANY, great nights trekking all the way across the town from MacArthur and Harrison to get to this joint. Legendary burritos. Now, they are gone — its just not fair. Damn this global warming! Really the new guys have to get the old recipe, or at least post where the old owners went.. . jeez.

I like a place with different types of people, but this place was like a hide out in south central LA from immigration and boarded patrols! oh yeah, there were a few trannys also, not exactly my cup of meat.

the last time i was there, the burrito didn’t measure up to the previous owner’s burrito. also, the place was nearly empty. 4⁄30 looks like new owners have taken over.

Oh hell yes!!! I remember this place and really wish it was still in business with the original owners and the workers in there. They had the best burritos ever. My parents used to come here after late night church services when I was a kid. I haven’t had a burrito yet that tasted as good as theres. I was to young to drink there back when they were open but I heard they closed because of some shady business taking place and thats why the original owners are no longer there. But its got a new name but the old Talk of Town sign is still up. Still looking for a taco truck that measures up.
