I love this place, it’s dog friendly, kid friendly. Me and my little Jada dog had a blast watching the kids play on the beach while hubby was playing with his buds at the bar. The atmosphere here is very welcoming and everyone treated me like an old friend. The bar tender cooked up a couple of burgers for my little Jada with no bun on a plate they had a bowl of water at all times for puppies. I love this place.

Sandbar is so much fun for the family during the daytime(it’s a pretty adult scene in the evenings). We like the variety of chicken wings and good selection of board games. A cool place to have a frozen drink during the hot days while the kids play Jenga, Sorry, Trouble or more. I was surprised that them lobster sliders were so good. The clam chowder was reliably good. The chili was not that good(too bell peppery). Our favorite dish is the buffalo chicken salad!

A group of friends and I came here for July 4 weekend, and we were excited by how festive and lively this place was. Can’t speak too much to how it is normally, but for the holiday period it was packed! Tons of liveliness, color and vibrancy– we were basically pulled into the bar after hearing the noises, seeing the dancing, and loving the music from inside.

This place is pretty gross and they don’t do a good job of cleaning as the night goes on. Napkins are all over the floor and you feel as though you will have a seizure with the crazy lights and super loud music. You have to be drunk and it has to be really late for you to hang here. Actually during the day they have a good scene and usually fun live music.

Super young crowd here. I came here really late night, so I’ll have to try again earlier and maybe it won’t be as obnoxious. There were roughly 8000 napkins on the floor… not sure how that even happens. I did like the appearance as it was certainly«beachy», clad with plenty of red wagon décor. Considering it was a holiday weekend, I’ll give this place a little bit of a pass and chalk it up to that.

Oh man… spent many a crazy night here! I’ve been coming here for a few summers now, and it has consistently been a good time. I’ve never come here for meals, because to me while it serves food, it is not known for it’s culinary excellence, but rather, its awesome night life scene. This is always our #1 go to spot when going out for the night on Fire Island and in Ocean Beach. The place itself is adorable and has a beachy essence like most places on Fire Island. Little red wagons hang from the ceiling, the colors inside are bright and tropical, and there are lots of beach signs and decorations. Again, if you’re not a regular visitor of Fire Island you wouldn’t get the red wagon thing, this is actually very significant and indicative of Fire Island. Red wagons are an icon of Fire Island. The bartenders can get a little snippy, but its understandable when seeing the very high volume of people they have to serve. I always get the giant«fuel» drinks here. It’s about 14 dollars for a large slushee drink. Usually two are enough to get me pretty drunk, feeling good, and ready to dance! There are also shot specials running each time I visit. The DJs and bands who play here are on point and usually get the whole crowd dancing. Excellent place to drink, dance, and party. Lots of fog machines and lights going, and at midnight they shoot a ridiculous amount of napkins into the air! There is also a foam party night which I’ve only been to once, but was definitely a lot of fun. I highly recommend coming here! Why minus one star? DONOTEVENTRYTOUSETHERESTROOMSHERE! The line is ridiculous and you will spend forever trying to get through the crowd! Also, I have come here on «off» nights expecting to see the huge, loud, fun crowd that is normally here, and there are maybe 20 people here max at its peak hours. I would say 85−90% of the time there is a consistent, awesome crowd. But, I have come here on weekend and weekday nights and been disappointed by the atmosphere. Definitely an Ocean Beach classic. Probably one of the best places to party in Ocean Beach on the weekend.

This place is a ton of fun. They had a 10 piece band play when we were there, they offer a ton of drink specials and the bar is just an all around great time. They do serve food but I wouldn’t eat here. Its better suited for some pre or post dinner drinks and dancing. Check it out for sure.

Bartenders = good. Nightly drink specials and activities = good. Why only 2 stars you ask? You know the smell of a mop that hasn’t been cleaned in years? It contains chunks and particles of undigested pizza from that college kid’s vomit that had a few too many and couldn’t make it to the toilet. It has been dragged across urine soaked restroom floors time and time again. Slimy from spilled drinks and bodily fluids. «Throw some more soapy water in the bucket, it’ll be fine!» You know… that mop? Well that’s what this place smelled like. I’m no prima donna, but i couldn’t stay there and drink. I’ve drank in the diviest of dive bars, but I expect a little better from a fire island venue. Crowd was kinda douchey, but really young, so I’ll give them a pass. I remember my first soco lime shot bro… Where’s John Taffer when you need him?

It was like walking into a drunken toy store. First sight, a ton of children. Second, a ton of alcohol. It’s Tuesday so maybe I can understand the diversity. Sit down with my boyfriend and order a blue moon. Unfortunately my boyfriend didn’t see anything he liked so jokingly ordered a Long Island. $ 22. Are you serious? A draft beer and a mixed drink(I understand fully LI are more expensive but $ 16?!) so on top of the yelling 21(?) year olds and the inattentive bartenders I can’t see anyone over the age of 20 staying here for more that a drink. Then again… it is a Tuesday, but I don’t think I’d give this place a second stop.

I stopped in for lunch with my wife for some fish and chips, fish was flaky. Chips were real thin sliced potatoes done great. Good music, it was quiet while we were there in June 2014.

Went here once in summer 2013 and it was packed and had great music by DJ Tanner and dancing. Cute with the red wagons on the ceiling. Another time I went it was a little empty and music was not on point. Good place to go mid summer for some rocket fuel!

We came here for lunch before heading out to the beach. It’s a pretty expensive restaurant, but I guess that’s what you get when you’re on an island and can’t really get food elsewhere. We all had margaritas and they weren’t very strong. My friends also had the ice cream shot, which they said tasted pretty good. The food was okay, although not as good as it usually is in a normal bar. The fish and chips literally came with potato chips even though it’s really supposed to come with french fries, so I guess they either didn’t know that or people on this island actually prefer chips… The buffalo chicken wings were ok although they didn’t have much sauce on them at all. Our waiter also claimed she was new and didn’t know a lot about the menu at all and had to keep going back to ask about stuff we asked her about.

This place had, if not the worst service then definitely in the top 3, that I have ever come across. 8 of us went in on a Sunday at noon and the place was empty minus a few people by the bar. We ordered very basic food, wraps and chicken fingers w/fries. Besides the fact that it took about 20 minutes for our food to START being served, our waitress was bringing our food out ONE sandwich at a time, with about 7 — 10 minutes between each plate. With 8 of us, it literally took over 40 minutes for every plate to be served. By that time everyone’s food was cold and it was not worth the wait either. Now I understand why we were the only table there.

Food is nothing to write home about, but what makes the experience worse is when they let«DJs» with twitchy fingers operate the sound system. Every 3 minutes the volume was drastically changed as if to torture the guests. Maybe next time a better review will be given after they remove the squirrels from the volume knob.

Stopped in during a rainy Saturday afternoon of walking around Ocean Beach. My friends and I were dying for oysters and beer and this was the first spot we stumbled into. Granted, half the crowd consisted of a a rowdy bunch of college boys who demanded that we dance before passing them-a good time was still had. They’ve got a few board games to keep you busy while you wait for your waiter to come around… and believe me-you’re going to WAIT! We actually ended up walking up to the bar to order our second round since our server was MIA. Great live music too-a guy with a guitar doing anything from«Pour Some Suga on Me» to Jason Mraz’s «I’m Yours.» Left to go to another bar & grab ice cream but when we came back, all I saw were endless hootchie mamas with mini skirts going in. Needless to say, we didn’t come back for our after hours drink.

Since Fire Island is basically a developed Sand bar itself, our group of rowdy hooligans thought it might be fun to mix with the local culture on a Saturday night. Now, before this cultural adventure you should have at *least* 5 margaritas because when you’re grinding with a five foot tall balding 22-year old that keeps his tan year round and lives off protein shakes and the word«yo» you’ll need a serious buzz. The doorman here was my absolute favorite, total beefcake who touched his balls in some way once every 3 seconds. I was informed that it was highly likely the guy had just shaved his balls and couldn’t stay away from them… but that’s neither here nor there. While there are three bars on the main drag, Sand bar is a prime destination. This is probably because of their extremely popular Piña Colada drinks that mix well with ‘roids and the smell of crabs wafting through the bar… oh and it smells like shellfish as well. The cherry on top was that they were playing the«King of Queens» family sitcom on the big screens providing the sole lighting in the bar. The saving grace? The tunes are on point here… Boy II Men, ABBA, Whitney… they have it all. We were singing along and dancing like crazy despite the creepy prowlers and $ 12 cocktails.
