Big Daddy’s Catfish & Chicken

Their fountain machine wasn’t working, they lost their liquor license, they were out of corn, coleslaw, corn on the cobb and baja shrimp. We asked about 4 times for more hush puppies and tarter sauce but never received them. Unbelievable!!!

This place has hardly ever disappointed me. The burgers are great, hush puppies are awesome and I’ve never received bad service. Reasonably priced for the amount of food you get.

Charbroiled chicken was flavorful, but barely warm. I prefer it served hot. The catfish was okay. They don’t use a straight cornmeal batter. The sides were just okay. The best part was the hush puppies, yummy! The tarter sauce is really good too. Service was good and prices were reasonable.

The food here was pretty good. Loved the catfish.
If anything, this is a family oriented spot. I personally didn’t like the chicken here. I also do not like the coleslaw here. It tasted different.
I was greeted promptly and provided great service here.

Good food but I believe for what me and my wife ordered it was kinda expensive. I will be going to another place besides them from now on. It’s also my belief that the catfish was kinda weird tasting and the breeding was to thick and kinda over cooked. But for west Texas catfish not bad.

Really tasty food, generous portions, and fantastic pricing on kid meals. The hushpuppy sticks and pintos rock!
The ribs could be a tad more tender, so I’m going 4 stars instead of 5.

Great fish!!! The hush puppies are just the right spicy. Only thing is if you order chicken ask what cut it is. I ordered a combo plate with fish and got a leg & thigh. Overall it’s a fantastic place for catfish

It’s really hit and miss here. They usually have good food and and good service. Or you could have a hour and a half wait without an ounce of food or drink. Use to be really good, but now they need to step back up.

Really like BIG DADDY’s. Usually don’t have to wait forever to get in. Service is great, staff always friendly and food is great. Like their spicy hushpuppies too which are homemade. Yum

I have been coming to this place since I was a teenager and I have always liked. I left to Denver, Colorado for five years and came back not to long ago. This was one place I was looking forward to eating at again. I’m just glad the food is still good! I always get the all you can eat ribs because they are awesome and they were just that awesome! I especially loved our waitress Christy! She made us feel right at home and even helped us play a joke on a friend that arrived late! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and if she is there ask for Christy, she will treat you like family!

One of my favorite spots in Odessa. We go on Sunday’s for lunch. Service is terrific 99% of the time. The food is great. Wife loves the chicken strips. I’m a fan of the ribs and char grilled chicken. The hush puppies as other reviewers have stated, are absolutely delicious.
We order off the senior menu, a normal plate would feed us both.
Salad tip:
Get the dressing on the side, some of the servers will drown the salad in dressing.

I was not impressed and will not return. The place was ok but the service wasn’t great and the food was all too salty and overfried. I was disappointed.

The catfish was crispy, light, and very tasty. The ribs could be more tender but they were tasty as well. Our waitress was great but the people in the kitchen need some extra training. Almost everything that came out was wrong in one way or another. But our waitress really made up for it.

If you ever find yourself driving through Odessa TX, do yourself a favor and bypass all the big name chain restaurants and use your GPS to find Big Daddy’s Catfish and Chicken, you won’t be disappointed! After being seated, we were delivered hush puppy fingers with a cup of outstanding tartar sauce! Yum. I had the chicken strips, with mac-​n-​cheese and slaw as sides, my wife had fried catfish and chicken, with dirty rice and green beans as sides. The chicken was wonderful on its own, but when you dip it in the provided gravy, it is unbelievably delicious! My wife said the catfish was among the best she’s ever had, and believe me when I say she’s not easy to please. The mac-​n-​cheese was like cheesy butter, the slaw was like a refreshing vinaigrette more than a slaw, it tasted very fresh and did taste like slaw, but without a mayonnaise taste if that makes sense? Very good, that’s for sure! My wife loved her sides as well. Highly recommended!

Great catfish. Really great tarter sauce and hush puppies. The Baja shrimp is wonderful. I love good catfish and don’t get 4 star very often. Big Daddy’s is 4 star. I order the Baja Grilled shrimp and 2 pieces of catfish. Wonderful meal. I recommend the seafood highly. Service is a little slow but the staff is friendly and polite.

This place used to be great when I was growing up. The food used to be fresh and the catfish used to be thick and freshly battered. I don’t know if they have changed owners in the last few years or not but something has changed and it’s very bad. The food is old stale and cold when served. They now buy prebattered fish and all you get is breading. It’s very disappointing especially having had grown up and gone to this Resturant weekly as a child and teenager. If your looking for great catfish this is unfortunately no longer the place to go!

Me and my family went there for lunch. We had two rib combo platters and the bourbon chicken. The chicken was great as were the sides. The ribs were not that great. They were tough and didn’t taste very well. They mainly tasted like barbecue sauce. The catfish was alright, nothing to rave about. If you want ribs I wouldn’t recommend coming here. Everything else was decent.

I made the mistake and ordered all you can eat. I figured I’d be brought a plate containing a little of the 3 entrée items I asked for… nope. The waitress brought out a tray and I was immediately thrust into what felt like an eating competition. I received 5 pieces of fish (which were great), what amounted to about a full slab of ribs, and 5 pieces of chicken. The cole slaw is home made and wonderful, and the tarter sauce is good. My only complaint besides being overwhelmed by food is the corn on the cob that came out obviously was soaking in a hot water pot or warmer because the corn was way over cooked and mushy. Oh well, next time I’ll order a combo of some sort and avoid the corn. The 4 star review this place had before me fits it well.

The waitstaff was awesome!
However, one of my biggest pet peeves of a restaurant is nasty ass married ketchup bottles from 1922, well this place is one of those. Plus they were nasty filthy!!!
The burger was dry and crunchy. No juices or flavor except the burnt flavor. Fries were cold.
I haven’t been here in about a year, things like this don’t make me want to come back.

Excellent Catfish? Check! Fab Hush puppies? Check! Great Service? Well… um…not so much.
The ‘I’ll get there when I get there and you’ll like it,’ waitresses lack skills. Maybe not all of them, but the ones we’ve encountered on every trip there (4 if memory serves) were all really lacking in speed, customer service and friendliness.
The catfish fried to perfection makes up for it, though… and gets them pulled up in my book from a 2 star to a 3 star. Maybe with a little extra staff training they can fix that problem? I hope so.
