NOTIFICATIONTOHEALTHDEPARTMENT: FUJISTEAKHOUSE on Martin Way. My family gathered to celebrate my 40th birthday tonight at the Fuji Steakhouse. We have been coming here for 9 years now to celebrate our birthdays. I watched our chef bus the table at grill directly across from us, handling dirty dishes while coming back to our grill to mix the fried rice. Then he shook a customers hand, and again, resumed at our grill. He then went to the other grill to clean it, and I WATCHEDHIMPOURALLOFTHEDRINKSFROMTHEPREVIOUSPARTYDIRECTLYONTOTHEGRILL. Water, Soda, and poured a bottle of beer. I gathered up my party of 6 and we walked out, never to return to Fujiyama Steakhouse

The food was good but the experience was ridiculous. When the chef walked up to us, the first words out of his mouth to our very large party was, «What’s up my niggas!» I could not believe my ears. But it gets better. The inappropriate comments this 50 something year old man made in front of a 16 year old girl were completely outrageous. He was more interested in acting like a clown than actually making the food and experience the star of the evening, which is why people usually like to go to these types of restaurants in the first place. You could look around at every person at our table, which wrapped around the entire thing, and see that nearly every person there was uncomfortable. Then to top it off, we were served the sherbet before our meal was even half way done. It felt like we were being rushed to get out and there was probably a good 45 minutes or an hour till closing still. Thank God the people in our party were all laid back, easy going people. But I know if it would have been my daughter he was talking like that in front of, I’d have had something to say to him for sure! I won’t ever go back to this place again.

This restaurant is HORRIBLE, and the owner, is a super bitch. very low quality beef, and seafood, served at top shelf price. they reuse, unused sauces, and salads .we worked valentine’s day with no break, and was given 2 pieces of chicken to an employee, u are charged for mistakes, any accident that may occur. I felt ashamed serving the food at this place. both owner and head chit, are ugly human beings. And B J is a method head. don’t waste ur time or money at this place.

Customer service. To me that means taking care of the guests and making them feel comfortable and wanted as a guest. My experience today was the exact opposite, server was honestly rude and very unfriendly. I understand they were busy but there is never an excuse to treat a customer the way myself and my family were tonight. Absolutely terrible experience.

Waited here for an half an hour after ordering drinks and food now just got served our drinks and the woman said the chef couldn’t cook our food yet because we didn’t order for everyone and then said we had to work for a kid at our table who is only 3 years old which we didn’t work him food because frankly he wouldn’t eat all the food and we could just share with him. So she served us our drinks and left. Frankly the worst serve I’ve ever had and I’ve come here a few times. Not so happy Valentines Day to us.

45 minute wait standing around waiting to be seated, for an hour and 45 minute wait for them to start cooking, only to be told they are far too busy to be bothered to make any of their appetizers. if this sounds appealing to you, then you too may enjoy spending $ 50 on chicken for two…

I can’t say anything about their food because we walked out and left before the chef arrived. I made reservations at 6 and by 7 we did not even have water. A member of our party had dietary restrictions and was informed that because she was not ordering food she would be charged $ 7 just to sit at the table in an almost empty restaurant. When we got up to leave we were offered no apology rather the owner tried arguing with us. Do not eat here.

I used to love this place, but the past three visits, have been consistently the same bad experience. I am giving 3 stars as an average of all my experiences. The service and food used to be amazing, very quick and attentive to any special requests. The past three visits have been horrible. The service slow and they haven’t had any of the sushi on the menu the past three visits(they say due to short staff). The husband ordered a Long Island ice tea and there was a bug in it. He told the chef and the chef took the bug out with a fork and lit it on fire and then said it wasn’t a bug. I was in shock. The guy who has been cooking for us the past three visits talks way too much and mumbles and you have no idea what he is saying half the time. A little conversation is good, but we are there for the kids to watch the entertainment of cooking, not to hear talking the whole time. My 6 year old son even said he talks to much. Due to the recent experiences, I will not be going back to eat here. Way too overpriced, for crappy service and okay food.

Took my cousin here today right after her plane landed. Was surprised they were open New Year’s Day! We had amazing service, great food and an excellent time! BJ and June were great chefs! Sarah was a fantastic hostess! Even got to meet Mrs. Young– who was very friendly– and needs to drink some sake! :) thanks for a great start to a new year!!!

I thought a bit about my experience and I think I have come up with a proper review, that is fair. Its a 3 point review and my final point is my biggest complaint about the establishment. 1. I have outgrown the Japanese Steakhouse experience: I have been to a number of Japanese steak houses and they range in quality. This one was average. My problem is the fact that I spent 19.50(16 for chicken meal and 3.5 for fried rice) on a meal that left me overwhelming unsatisfied. The moment I left I was already hungry. So this means I spent a majority of the meal cost on the show. The show is fine, but for me the food is king. In this situation the food was fine, but not worth $ 20.00. Honestly as I think back on my most recent Japanese steak house experiences, I feel the exact same way. Food is fine, but not worth the cost. 2. Food quality and quantity: The food was fine. I chose chicken only because I was concerned anything else would upset my stomach. Typically I dont get the fried rice, mostly because I dont need the calories, but additionally because I dont love the cost associated with it. I was talked into the fried rice and I think that was my first mistake. Lets hit on the positive real quick:. The soup and salad dressing were great. I really enjoyed both of those overall. Now onto the main course. Everything was super oily and my chicken and veggie portion was small. Like I mentioned above I left hungry, this was mostly due to the fact that the portion was just too little. This is the primary reason behind the 3 star and could be the reason behind the lower score overall. 3. 18% gratuity on party of 5+: This place adds a 18.5% gratuity automatically on parties 5 or more. I dont know if I have ever seen this number less than 8 before and I really dont care for the practice of auto gratuity. Overall my experience tonight was fine… not 20% tip fine… not much else needs to be said about this… Overall its part of the reason I will do what I can to avoid this location again. It just doesnt make sense to me. Tipping as a whole is about a person earning a bonus and if the show is good it stands on its own, and no matter how I feel about tipping I will typically leave something, not be given a choice kind of bothers me, and not be given a choice on a smaller party really bothers me. Overall the experience was fine. Its not really for me anymore and I can see that now. My biggest complaints are the 18.5% gratuity added on automatically and the portion size.

Food was great and staff is very friendly. BJ assisted our chef in training and did a great job. Very entertaining and got all the people in the restaurant to join in the fun. Highly recommended.

Aweful! When they first opened years ago, this used to be our families favorite place for celebrations. We haven’t been there in couple years and they have seemed to have switched owners and the prices went up and the quality and portions took a huge dive! Would not recommend this place at all. The yum yum sauce(which is a favorite at every teppan yaki place) looked very suspect… was way way too sweet and did not have the bright orangish color it usually does.

Grumbling misogynistic drunk rum pirate? Check. Arguing over seating arrangement? Check. Walking in and getting clapped AT? New one. Our anniversary, but chef jokes I am talking to my girlfriend on the phone? Check. Mis-hearing my order? Check. Passive aggressive mood in restaurant? Check. Very very uncomfortable place. Felt like I had taken a bad mushroom trip. By the way the food was tasty.

We used to visit the Fuji Steakhouse pretty regularly and it was usually pretty tasty, the chefs put on a pretty decent show and the other staff was very friendly. Unfortunately, our latest visit indicated that the place has seriously gone downhill. The first thing we noticed was nightclub music, dive bar decorations, and a bunch of Seahawks stuff. The classy upscale atmosphere had left the building. The next problem was the seating arrangements. We have a baby and the hostess was visibly agitated by the fact that we wanted to put the high chair between us instead of where she wanted him. The«show» was bizarre at best. Our cook told some jokes and sang a lot but most of it was completely unintelligible. Our portions were small. Although he made a joke about refusing to cook steak more than medium because it ruins it, he cooked our steaks until they were shoe leather and gave our medium steaks to the people who actually requested shoe leather. It was like our chef had been replaced by a cut-rate comedian who couldn’t cook. Our bill for small portions and poorly cooked food for two was $ 70 before the tip. We can cross the street and pay $ 30 less for the same meal minus the weird comic show. Needless to say, this will be our last visit to Fuji.

Seriously disappointed in this restaurant. Went in at 8pm Friday June 26 and won’t ever go back. Walked in, 3 of us, and the whole place had maybe 12 customers in it. The hostess started arguing about where to seat us, at our own table or with a few others. After 15 minutes of waiting we got seated. Then the pure fun began. The chef across the island from us seemed like a grumbly pirate that had a bit too much rum. He was making lewd comments about the women at the table and just kept mumbling on and on thinking he was funny. It got to the point that two of the four got up and walked out in the middle of their dinner. My girlfriend and I ordered the steak and chicken Hibachi for two, my son ordered the chicken. We got no salad, or miso soup. Eventually the chef comes out from the back, looking more annoyed to be there than anything… and drunk pirate chef at his back made it that much more fun! Within about 10 minutes he had cooked our food, and rolled back to the kitchen. Drunk pirate guy was still at his griddle the whole time! I can say that the steak was tasty, and the veggies were good but the portions were tiny. The chicken was dry and overly salty. The veggie fried rice had little to no veggies at all too. In the end we paid our bill and got the heck out of one of the worst teppanyaki experiences you could ever have!

DISAPPOINTING! D Brought my sis for a bday dinner… Hadnt been here in years, and I wont be going back. I’d rather drive up north to Samurai’s in Spanaway. There was only cook working on a thursday evening. I asked why he was the only cook, he said the other guy was drunk, which often happened. well that wasnt the response I was expecting. He seemed like he hated his job. I bought the dinner for 2… They didnt even give us dessert, which was included in the price, and the steak tasted off DON’T WASTEYOURMONEYHERE!

One-star rating for the following: COST — I ordered the salmon dish. The listed price on the menu is $ 22. I was charged extra for fried rice and vegetables. I thought it was a given that those were included. I assumed wrong. So, with $ 22 you will receive a small salad(iceberg lettuce with a mayonnaise-type dressing), miso soup, salmon, WHITE rice, and sorbet. Oh, and minimal sauces/seasoning. The food was mediocre, at best. SMALLPORTIONS — I’ve been to several teppanyaki restaurants. Fuji’s portions are, by far, the smallest. Perhaps that was due to the size of the table. Even the miso soup, salad, and sorbet were very small. CROWDEDTABLE — On a Friday Night, I came in with a group of six people. That’s a good size group for one chef. However, there were only two chefs working that night. As a result, the waitress seated us with six other people. Twelve people to one chef. The size of the food wasn’t even enough to feed everyone. The chef forgot to give me vegetables. It didn’t matter, since there wouldn’t have been enough for me anyway. Still, I asked three times but he was distracted taking care of 12 customers. After several minutes, he came back with a plate full of vegetables for me. I greatly appreciate him doing this. I wish he wasn’t overwhelmed with so many people. LONGWAIT — On a Friday Night, the restaurant was ¾ full but there were only two chefs working. And they were working hard. They were enjoyable but I could tell they needed some help. I was there for 2 ½ hours. MISCOMMUNICATION — My friend ordered a second beer. The waitress forgot to give it to him. He was given his beer when he asked again, however they charged him for three beers and not two. He had to convince the waitress, several times, that he was not lying and that the waitress charged him for a beer that she forgot to bring to him. And there’s the whole«extra cost for fried rice and vegetables thing» the waitress did not inform us of. The chef didn’t even ask if we wanted vegetables or not. Perhaps, everyone at my table didn’t read the menu correctly; we were all surprised by the extra charge. ADDEDTIPPING — The receipts were split individually, however the restaurant added a 16% tip because I was seated with 11 other people(6 of those people were strangers). Considering the service I received, I would’ve wanted to have more control of my tip. Meaning, to whom my tip went to and how much. MILITARYDISCOUNT — Expect them to only offer a military discount Monday through Thursday. Considering the food, the price, and the service, this restaurant is not worth another visit.
