Good sushi and not crazy busy for a downtown restaurant. We went about 5:30 on a Tuesday and we were one of two groups. Staff was friendly, prices pretty normal for sushi, atmosphere was casual. Ordered 3 different rolls, all were good!

Sushi in Omaha? I had to try it. Who knows, maybe this place is like some of the great sushi places in Denver? Sadly, I was disappointed with this place. We ordered a lot of rolls from a pretty large menu but unfortunately, none of them impressed me. They were small and had lots of rice which overpowered what little flavor the roll might have had to begin with. The fish did not taste fresh. It tasted like it was frozen, thawed and sat for a day or two before it made it onto our plates. The price was high considering the quality of the rolls. Silver lining: The miso soup was good.

Miso soup was best I have ever had! However, that’s where the good review stops. The rolls I ordered to go took a half hour to make, and i was 1 of 2 peiple in the whole restaurant, and when I got back to my hotel, I found I did not receive what I ordered. still tried them, but could not get past the first slice of each of the 2 rolls I ordered. absolutely horrible. mushy fish, tasteless, and would never ever try again. so disappointed.

I only go there duing lunch special AYCE. it’s good for the price but don’t expect too much. Food comes out really slow. really slow like a turtle… Their miso soup taste really bad. I couldn’t eat miso soup because it was really sweet. I never had sweet miso soup like that before and they charged fee for the leftover miso soup. :( Their roll taste all the same. Only thing I liked was their butterfly shrimp. Service is bad.

The food is outstanding and high quality. We got veggie rolls and mixed tempura, which turned out to be the best we’ve had in omaha. The broccoli and shrimp tempura were especially tasty. We’ll definitely come back!

The all you can eat sushi is the best deal in town. You get to choose however many appetizers you want as well. The miso soup is high quality and the tempura appetizers are delicious, don’t miss out on the pumpkin!

BLUF– Great food in a great atmosphere and at a great price! Four of us visited Matsu Sushi on Christmas, we had selected the location because one of our party is vegan and the restaurant offers vegan selections. The sushi selection was the largest I’ve seen, our food arrived promptly, was as described and the prices were right. The only complaint was the women’s bathroom, the toilet wasn’t flushing correctly and this was reported. We all left there full and three of us left with leftovers. The portion sizes were perfect, no skimpy plates here. Unique, delicious, vegan/vegetarian friendly and easy to access being right downtown.

I’m hovering between a 3 and 4 star on this one. We decided to use a groupon we had purchased($ 10 for 20 dine in) on a Sunday night. Sunday night often =dead, no exception this time there was a lot of parking(free after 5pm!) to be had. I totally recommend to dine on Sunday nights and snag a good spot. The menu here is pretty extensive for sushi. A few highlights on the menu was that there was a picture menu in case you are unfamiliar with some of the common sushi rolls and ingredients. They are also very explicit about the number of pieces in a roll order. Nothing worse than assuming you’ll get 8 and there are only 4 small pieces on the plate. Other than that there are some nice Japanese food options like bento boxes and don dishes, udon, and other options which I didn’t really explore. We tried the katsu don and a few rolls. I was pretty impressed at the service overall. Our waiter was a younger guy, and all the waitstaff was attentive, polite, and through with explaining dishes as they arrived and making sure we didn’t need anything. Really great service overall. The food was ok, the Don was a little on the salty side but still pretty tasty. The three rolls were enjoyable. Fresh fish and not overally drenched in sauces or condiments. I think the groupon deal is pretty good. I would recommend this as a groupon purchase – I see it on there pretty often.

‘ve been to Matsu several times and having tried all the other sushi joints in Omaha I can say it is hands down the best Sushi. If you want trendy and expensive go to Blue. If you want good quality reasonably priced sushi go to Matsu!

This is hands down my favorite sushi spot in Omaha. It’s not all about the giant fish tanks and neon lights, but I like that a little better anyways. They obviously make the focus about the food. The sushi is like no other in town. It is as authentic as it gets in Omaha. We always go here for celebrations, birthday dinners etc. and sometimes order sushi for take out too. The staff remembers us every time we come, and really takes care of us. I like that in a local restaurant. It feels like Cheers, but for sushi. We always order the asparagus tempura as an appetizer. Their eel sushi is the best in my opinion. Order your sushi with a side of peanuts and eel sauce, it’s delicious! This was a recommendation by a waiter and I have never looked back.

Decent sushi and nice all you can eat lunch option. It’s been years since I have been to Matsu, but it looks exactly the same as my last visit. Service was good, but felt like the one server was a bit overtaxed having to cover all the tables, but I still was able to get in and out in about an hour. The AYCE lunch special(14.52 including tax) included sushi rolls, nigiri, hand rolls and cooked items(soup, appitizers, salads, tempura…). The selection was good on the rolls(not all krab) and there were several non-fried, raw fish options, but the rolls themselves were a little loose and prone to falling apart. The nigiris’ fish was on the thin side, but wasn’t so thin that you couldn’t taste the fish. The nigiri menu had the most options out of any AYCE sushi restaurants in Omaha, which does make the price a better deal if you order nigiri. If you are looking for a classic no-frills sushi experience, this is the place to hit.

Had a craving for sushi so I went here. They are conveniently located & have Internet so it worked out better than I thought. I had steamed dumplings and the triple roll, both were fantastic!

I have been at Matsu a ton and every time I go, it’s generally pretty good. The décor seems a tad outdated, but its still okay. The restaurant is always clean. The wait staff is always nice and prompt with getting your order. The prices of sushi seems to rise every time we go, but I can’t knock them for keeping up with the market and supply and demand. A time or two, my wife said that her fish in her Rainbow roll smelled a tad off and wasn’t as fresh as normal, that would be my only gripe. And we have been there over a dozen times. We seem to go to Matsu once every month or two for our sushi fix and we aren’t going to stop any time soon.

Second time to matsu and I like it. I’m a fan of the funky monkey, I got it last time and this time and it was good if you like a little bit of heat but just barely. If your ok with tune I liked the Honolulu, again with some more heat, more than the monkey. It’s a quaint little place just north of old market but it’s not hard to get in. The service this time was much better than the last. My wife enjoys the lighter side with the Philadelphia and the Las Vegas. They have a normal menu, even with a kids section, if you’re up for more than just sushi.

Love it! This little place is slightly out of the old market, but worth the walk. The service is kind of slow and there can be an awkward silence if you are the only person there. The vegetable options are splendid. My current favorite of a spicy avocado roll. Excellent preparation and terrific taste. I have never had a bad time here. My friends’ dishes also looked great. Very fresh and displayed well. These guys also have a decent grasp of Groupon so i don’t hesitate to buy the biggest offer because i know i will use it

Prices were alright, but I was very disappointed in the quality of the fish in the sushi rolls. I usually order simpler roles, and if you can’t do those right, well… I’ve had better experiences here in the past(or maybe I’m just becoming a snob), so perhaps they usually have fresher fish than this. The service was a little weird, but the atmosphere and roasted green tea made up for it.

I like Matsu a lot. Although I had a bad experience once(soggy overcooked udon noodles) the authenticity of their dishes make up for that one isolated experience. I’ve eaten sushi in many big cities in the world ie. Honolulu, Chicago, etc. and trust me when I say that for Omaha it’s decent. The rolls can be a bit on the pricey side if you order the specialties(which I often do) but on positive note they’re usually always very good. Next time you walk by this place I would give it a try!
