There are two Radio Shacks within about a mile of each other and I really have no idea why. This location in Waterford lakes is generally more convenient since we’re at Waterford at least once a week anyways. I know most people these days are all, «Radio Shack, they’re still in business?» or «What do people still go there for?» Well it seems that most people are in there buying phones or stereo wires. Me? I’m there to pick up electronics components. Radio Shack is one of the few places I can go in and pick up some resistors, LEDs or switches. The selection of electronics components is pretty decent — offering most of the items you might need at the last minute — but it’s by no means comprehensive. They’ve got lots of LEDs, but maybe not the size or color you’re really looking for. Prices are, of course, dramatically higher than anything you’d pay online, but you can pick up what you need without waiting for shipping. A few of the employees even know what they’re talking about — at least enough to help you pick something out, but maybe not enough to actually know what the piece would do. The employees here seem to be really patient helping customers with even the most basic cellphone questions. On my last visit, I saw them walking a person through how to change their ringtone and how to download photos off of it. Radio Shack isn’t a place where you’d ever want to just go in and browse, but for those specific parts or supplies I need, it’s great.
