When I can break free from the Twins and have a GNO my dinner of choice is: SUSHI! Restaurant: This dining spot is small. I was a bit confused as I looked for the grilled side but they prepare that in the back. We came on a Thursday at 6 and was able to get a booth luckily. Starters: We didn’t order any but was given free Miso soups. It was very bland but who is to complain about free soup?! Rolls: Being a Salmon(raw) lover I immediately look for rolls with Salmon — and not fried. There weren’t many. I ordered the Sushi 99 Roll. It was the best of all of the rolls I got but I don’t think the roll warrants the $ 12.95 price. Then I got the Spider Roll. A typical roll that is hard to mess up. It just just«ok». I also ordered the Kelmon roll. Again just ok. I also ordered sashimi bc there were so few raw specialty roll options I had to know if it was quality or just a bunch of sauces masking the fish. The salmon sashimi was good but paying by the piece was pricey. My friend ordered shrimp tempura. She said she wasn’t impressed. She ordered 2 rolls to go and also didn’t receive the sauce she asked for. Nothing burns me more than coming home with missing pieces to my take out order. Customer Service: They kept asking if we wanted anything else. We felt like we were being kicked out. My total bill with a large sake over $ 50. For $ 50 I expect more quality and better customer service. Would we come back? Nope.

2.5 so I’ll round up to a 3. I really wanted to like Sushi 99, but this is the highest rating I could give it. Completely empty on a Friday night, ok. Our server was very nice from the get go. She brought us soup(I didn’t try it but my boyfriend liked it) and holiday roll(fried krab) on the house. The holiday roll was very good. We ordered chicken skewers appetizer which was also very good and the portion was pretty big considering the price(less than $ 5). I thought we were off to a great start. Now, for the sushi — this is where it goes downhill. We ordered a crunchy roll, a mango shrimp roll, and a chicken tempura roll. Sadly, all of them were much less than mediocre. The mango roll has waaaay too much mango and nothing else, so it’s super sweet yet super bland. The chicken and crunchy roll completely lacked flavor. The rice was very mushy(not in a good way) and the temperature of the rolls was weird. Hate to say it, but easily the least favorite sushi I’ve ever had. I have absolutely no idea how people rave about the sushi here. It’s not good at all! Service was very nice and everything except the sushi was good. Maybe if you come here to not eat sushi, you’ll like it.

This place is very similar to my hometown sushi spot, Fancy Sushi. I love coming here for their lunch specials and the lunch specials are really good deals. The holiday roll is the best thing, you get that as an appetizer and whoever I’m with, we fight for the last roll. Its a nice environment and friendly staff.

Very surprised that this place got such high ratings because the food was terrible. Their sushi roles are so small and made cheaply. My volcano role was a joke. I can’t believe I ate it. We left to finish our dinner elsewhere.

Since my daughter and I were in the area we gave Sushi 99 a try for dinner. We arrived and promptly were promptly seated. Drink orders were taken followed by a complimentary appetizer and soup being delivered — before we even ordered which was a very nice touch. The appetizer was AMAZING.. . it was a fried sushi roll which was one of the best things my daughter and I ever had; the soup was average. We ordered 2 sushi rolls and while my higher priced roll was good, my daughter’s regular sushi roll was ‘ok’ — not much flavor and dry Service was excellent. We’d give Sushi 99 another chance, but would definitely get the appetizer roll. This place is worth a try.

So we came here craving sushi and after seeing the awesome reviews, living about 10 minutes way, we decided to go for it. As we walked in, we were immediately greeted by our server who was kind and excited to meet us. She brought menus, took drink orders and within two minutes brought us a complementary appetizer(forgot the name, but it was delicious) and the best miso soup I’ve had. Neither of theses were charged to our bill. She asked if we lived nearby and how we had heard about them. After a short conversation, she left us the menus and returned within a few minutes. Juan order two Spicy Tuna Rolls(around $ 6 each) and a Volcano Roll, made of oven baked conch, crab, fish eggs, mayo on top of crab snow and cream cheese($ 9.95). I ordered a Rock & Roll maki roll($ 6) which was made of Shrimp Tempura, crab, avocado and cream cheese. Additionally, I also ordered the Volcano roll. Order did not take long before it arrived and the presentation was both creative and intriguing. Fiancée pointed out that entrées should never have items that are not edible, but I didn’t mind it. We were happy with out food and service. Juan had ordered sweet tea, which he loved and I drank water. Our bill was $ 41 and we were satisfied. Pretty sure we will come here again in the near future. Good sushi, good service and very close to home.

Wow! So last night I had the lovely opportunity of going out to eat at this place. I was already an avid customer of Sushi 99, but would always take the food to go. This time we decided to dine in and OMG I am so happy we did. The customer service here is great, very attentive staff. The place was pretty packed last night for dinner, which to me is always a good sign of a healthy, delicious restaurant. As soon as we sat down within minutes we were brought miso soup and the holiday roll on the house. OK, this is where they got me… food on the house? Oh they know how to treat their customers well! The soup was tasty and the holiday roll, absolutely amazing! I believe it was crab wrapped in a tempura batter, but all you need to know is that it was so amazing! I ended up ordering the Crunchy and the Rock N Roll, both 5 stars! My husband got a whole mixture of about 4 different rolls, which I can’t remember the names, but they were also extremely tasty and were presented so beautifully on his plate. The sushi here is perfectly made and very fresh tasting. I am so happy that we have this amazing little spot down the street from us. The food is also very reasonably priced, especially compared to other sushi spots. If you are in the area, this is a must!

Great meal, personable staff! A little hidden gem. Reasonable prices! Sat down and was given soup, and a chef’s special to try! Great flavors! From the basics like Tekka Maki to Amaebi, each dish was well prepared and given a nice presentation! Being my son’s birthday, the bought out a Fried Oreo roll! It was great! Will be our go to spot when visiting UCF!

Love this place. Clean, modern, quiet and everything is made fresh to order. Every roll that I have tried has been delicious. Staff is friendly and management is always making guest comfortable and often offer samples of things on the menu. This is my regular sushi spot and I visit about once a week. Best sushi I’ve had in Orlando to date. Well done sushi 99!

Dinner was great. #15, #16 where awesome but don’t order then if you don’t like some heat on your sushi. BTW, you get a holiday roll as part of your meal which is really good. Soup is also provided. Best of all, soup and the holiday roll come out before you even order

Pleasant place. Clean nice ambiance. Beef negimaki — pretty good was over cucumbers good for 2 – 3 people with ponzi sauce Beef tataki — decent lil saucy with scallions. I may have this mixed with the item above. Steak fried rice was a huge disappointed bit pretty much was their house fried that comes with your hibachi meal with some slice cubed steak thrown on top. Not your typical fried rice where it’s tossed with a combination of vegetables etc. the only $ 8 so I guess it’s worth the price but not your typical fried rice. Sweet shirmp sashimi is great comes with fried prawn heads that are yummy. Ordered black dragon roll and volcano roll both didn’t disappoint. Had hibachi in the pass it’s good if you want something quick and don’t feel like going to KOBE. Service is service not bad not good, but their is a language barrier. Overall decent place because it’s convenient and food isn’t bad. Ideal for your quick fix and price is not bad.

Finally got to try this place the other day and was pleasantly surprised. With all of the issues with Asian food in four area lately, it’s nice to finally have a place to get my sushi and Japanese food fix. I had the hibachi steak and shrimp and it was so good. Their white sauce tastes just as good as the Kobe sauce. The décor is nice and clean and service was spot on. I feel dirty for not trying their sushi, but I’m sure it’s just as good as the hibachi I had. Add this place to the list of places that I have to return to. Well done.

Given the disclaimer that I pretty much order the same thing every time, this place is good. Also, I’m glad that they are here since the place that I used to get my sushi from closed. I mostly pre-order and pick up — 2 shrimp tempura rolls from the lunch special. Recently, I dined in for the first time and was surprised to get a free white soup, holiday roll(appetizer size) and salad(lettuce and dressing). Now that I know, I will be dining in a little more often. The holiday roll is good — normally, I would not have ordered it since I generally avoid imitation crab. It is pretty good — now I sometimes order a roll of it with a roll of shrimp tempura. I also like that they don’t color the ginger pink — I always thought pink ginger was weird. And they have one of my favorite desserts on the menu… ice cream tempura! I mean, what good is tempura if you can’t get a little ice cream inside? :) The inside is beautiful and modern with nice, clean décor. I haven’t had any negative experiences with the hostess/cashier or server. Except for the last visit where they forgot my ginger, my order is generally correct and hot. Definitely a fan.

This is some of my favorite sushi I’ve ever had. I get the spicy salmon roll and the jax roll(shrimp tempura with spicy tuna in top) which combines all my favorites for sushi. The first couple times I went, I got it to go but the other day my boyfriend and I went and ate inside. You definitely get more when you sit down! They gave us soup and a free fried crab appetizer. It was really yummy! And a whole bottle of white sauce!!! Their presentation is also very nice and it’s pretty affordable. Will definitely continue coming here.

This place is a hole in the wall mom and pop that locate in the Avalon Park area in the same plaza as a Walgreen. It relatively new and close to our place so we decided to check it out. Surprisingly, it was worth the try! The décor is simple and clean. The menu has a large option which included sushi rolls, hibachi, sashimi, udon, and lunch special. I have been here for lunch and dinner and both time I was able to get in and out quickly. The best thing about the place is the free soup and appetizer. Also, the rolls are meticulously done and the plating is very detail and pretty. I am a sucker for pretty things! Overall, food is great and pricing is reasonable. I would definitely come here often.

I will premise this with a disclaimer: I am not a sushi girl. I don’t eat seafood. I visited Sushi 99 for lunch with a friend for lunch and was excited to try some new hibachi in the Avalon area. The lunch special is $ 8.95 and comes with soup/salad and some sort of krab appetizer thing which I let my friend have all to herself. It’d be nice to have a non-seafood option to start off with! My friend ordered a sushi/sashimi combo. The server seemed a little put off when she asked which fish was in the sashimi but asked the chef and reported back to my friend. My hibachi was good but I’ve had better closer to my house. I was pleased it included stir fried udon noodles which I love. I took those and some rice home since the meal was fairly large. My friend was a little surprised when she got her bill since she ended up spending $ 16 after her special dish and drink. Keep an eye on your total!

I’ve been eyeing Sushi 99 since I saw it open and after my first trip I’m happy to report it will be a regular spot I’ll visit! Upon sitting down you are immediately served a few soup and a free sample appetizer– both delicious. In my few trips I’ve tried probably 8 – 9 different rolls(I’ve visited with the boyfriend, I didn’t eat al of that myself) and everything we have had has been good. It only is everything tasty but their presentation game is on point! Our volcano roll came to us glowing multi colors, the plates always have some fancy picture drawn in sauces, and I even had a tree scene made out of celery on one plate. Full time fancy! I wouldn’t put Sushi 99 up against my favorites around town but this is a solid neighborhood choice.

I feel like Sushi 99 is overall a pretty good sushi restaurant, so I want give them the benefit of the doubt and give them the fourth star. Really, it’d be closer to 3.5. The service is very good, and the people we dealt with were friendly. We got a free appetizer to start, a fried krab stick with a drizzle of white sauce. After we had ordered, we each also got a free cup of mushroom soup. It was a nice touch. I also ordered a seaweed salad, which tasted fine but was a bit disappointing because of its small size and $ 5 price tag. My initial instinct was to order the chirashi, but instead we ordered four rolls for dinner. Choosing the rolls was more difficult than we had hoped, largely because the menu seems to lean very heavily toward cooked rolls and ingredients like cream cheese. Combined with the fact that we were given a huge squeeze bottle of white sauce after putting in our sushi order, you can tell where the focus is here. We found some that looked okay: Double Salmon, Fire Tuna, Sweet Heart, and Crazy Tuna. We enjoyed all four of them, although everything other than the Sweet Heart(which was wrapped in rice paper) lacked any structure, they had a very soft and mushy texture. The flavors were fine though. Unfortunately, the special rolls with the raw components also tend to skew high from a price perspective. Three of our four rolls were special rolls and the average price was $ 13. I’d be happy to come back to Sushi 99, but next time I’ll be skipping the special rolls and going with the chirashi or something similar.

So happy that Sushi 99 has joined our community! We stopped in today for lunch and were pleasantly surprised at the interior which was much nicer than we had expected — being in a small strip mall, and an old Quizno’s location. The décor is modern lounge/trendy without trying to feel like a nightclub like some other places in the area. We were immediately greeted by some employees and shown to our table. While we went over the menus, we were brought bowls of soup(I believe they were the«clear soup» listed on the menu, but the waitress did not identify it by name). It was delicious, with a pleasant, but not an overly strong flavor. We hadn’t ordered soups, but all of the lunch specials include it. I’m not sure what they would have done had we not ordered off the lunch menu. We ordered a sashimi lunch and the three rolls special(spicy tuna, yellowtail, and eel & cucumber). The lunch specials also included salads. Not the best salads we’ve had — a few too many iceberg hearts, and not my favorite dressing, but enjoyable. As we finished these, the waitress brought out a house special appetizer. I didn’t catch the name, but tasted like crab. The menu made no mention of the lunch specials including this, and it wasn’t on our bill. It may have just been a special treat item since they just opened. Whatever it was, it was delicious. Our food came out pretty quickly, but there weren’t many tables full while we visited. The sashimi ended up including tuna, salmon, albacore, yellowtail and fatty tuna. Each piece was sizable and delicious. The rolls were very good — nicely rolled without too much rice, and a good amount of fish. Not the best sushi I’ve had, but very well done. My wife ranked the sashimi amongst the better ones she’s had. If sushi isn’t your thing, they also offer cooked entrees, including the more common stuff like katsu, teriyaki, and tempura, as well as various teppan entrees(chicken, steak, shrimp). It looks like we’ve found our new go-to sushi restaurant in the area.

Sushi 99 in Avalon Park is ran by the same owners of the Sushi 99 in Port Orange. Three and a half stars rounded up to four. Good sushi for the area. There are a far better places in quality around Orlando, but if you live in Avalon Park this is a nice convenient location that provides decent sushi. We did not order any of the hot foods, but I do hear that their hibachi is good. After ordering, we were served a light mushroom soup, standard ginger salad, and a free appetizer from the kitchen, which was two fried Krab sticks drizzled in white sauce(everyone’s favorite used for hibachi) We ordered the love boat, which comes with 12 pieces of sashimi, 12 pieces of nigiri, one california roll, one salmon roll, and one special roll(chef’s choice). I ordered two ikura(salmon roe) nigiris on the side as well. I think the sushi rice used on all of the sushi was a tad too sweet. For my salmon roe nigiri, the sweetness of the sushi rice overpowered the flavor of the salmon roe. The quality of the fish is good, but I’ve had a lot better at other sushi spots in Orlando. Again, it is good for Avalon Park since we don’t have too many great sushi places in this area. If you live in the area, give Sushi 99 a try.
