1965 atmosphere with 2005 prices. What’s not to like. I feel like I walked back into my 60’s childhood every time we come here. I swear even the serving staff are the same ones from my childhood… They even have the little baskets of individually wrapped crackers, you just don’t see that anymore. They have wine and beer, but true to the 60’s roots if you want a cocktail bring your own bottle for setups. Service is very efficient in a non-chatty industrial approach sort of way. Food is never off the charts good… but it is GOOD. The crowd is usually a mix of older couples and always a big family group or three. The cool kids are never here, I don’t miss them. We usually get a steak or prime rib, both are always very good… Not Manny’s good, but a steak with salad and potato is $ 22.00, not $ 90.00. It is not our special occasion place, but sometimes a dose of yesterday is just what we want, and they serve plenty of that here.

I had an event in MG at 10 so I got here at 8 when they opened. I was kind of surprised that they weren’t fancier based on the menu. Someone was telling me about the steaks and I jumped to conclusions. It’s just regular folks and it seems to fill up with regulars. I got the prime rib hash, topped with some tiny poached eggs. It’s loaded with meat and I ate half and had the rest later. It was delicious. My server was great as well. Looking forward to many more things to try. I also discovered Highway 81.

It’s a real Mom and Pops type of place. Proof? Any time my Mom and Pops come to town, this is their choice to dine out. Having grown up in a small town/rural area, I too prefer the quaint simplicity of Dehn’s to the sterility of the typical chains that abound in Maple Grove. The restaurant has been in operation since 1958, far before the area was built up into what it is today. Dehn’s hearkens back to a bygone era where families gathered around the table and enjoyed one another’s company with hearty food and good cheer. With a friendly wait staff and lack of pretense, you can sit back and enjoy a solid meal at a reasonable price. I’ve mainly stuck to the steaks, and they’ve been well prepared and flavorful. My latest excursion found me with a slab of prime rib(only available Thursday-Saturday), which was herb crusted, tender, and delicious. At $ 18.95, it’s priced right($ 16.95 on Thursday night special). It comes with baked potato or French fries, or you can upgrade to hash browns for $ 0.75. I upgraded and found the hash browns to be tasty, though I wish they were crispier. It is also served with a side of au jus and creamy horseradish by request. Horseradish is a must for me. All entrées also come with soup or side salad and a basket of warm dinner rolls – all good, too. They serve beer and wine only, with set ups available as they do not serve liquor. You can bring your own bottle. I’ve never done so, but it’s an option. They’ve got a decent selection of beers to satisfy most palates(see my photo of the menus). Joyce has been our waitress more than a few times and she is simply delightful. She is on the ball, friendly, and makes sure you have a great experience. Such a nice lady! Overall, I recommend Dehn’s for its timeless simplicity, good food, and great service. A true«hidden gem» that is worth a trip slightly off the beaten path just north of County Road 81 on Fernbrook Lane.

I have been coming here for awhile. It is the closest thing to a real supper club in the northern suburbs. The prime rib and hash-browns are always well cooked and tasty. My only knock is they do not have a full bar. Weekend brunch is great including the Prime Rib hash.

When you show up at a restaurant at 1:00 p.m. and every table in the place is empty, you should probably think twice about sitting down, but it was a long drive, so I sat down. As could be expected, the service was great. I ordered the Reuben sandwich as that is why I had come. It was, at best, disappointing. The meat had an oily taste and I could not discern any Thousand Island dressing. It was not packed the way most Reuben’s are. The fries were fine, but I would have rather had it with a kosher dill and chips, the classical way that Reuben’s are served. At 11.95, the sandwich was over-priced and underwhelming. So my quest for the perfect Reuben continues.

Great brunch on weekend. Nice, family/country vibe for dinners. Don’t expect steakhouse quality here but it is a solid meal for a reasonable price and its not a cookie cutter chain. You feel like you are eating a a local spot.

Got the witch doctor, hot. Came quickly and was hot as heck! Very good, exactly what the doctor ordered after a night out.

Forget the chains this is the place to go for breakfast. My favorites are the pancakes, thick sliced bacon and apple fritter French toast. Bottomless cup of coffee. They started having the breakfast on the weekdays too and we try to go at least once a week.

First time here on a Sunday morning, we tried the Tex Mex and Witch Doctor(photos attached to review page). Great food, friendly staff, reasonable priced, huge portions! I would definitely go there again to try out the lunch or dinner menu. Nice, quaint diner off the beaten path, but definitely worth a try!

My wife likes this place but I don’t care for it. We both had prime rib. It was good but I was hoping for better. It lacked having enough. The service was great tonight. The beef with barley was good even if it was just a little too salty. I think that more times than not we had flies visit our table. That is very uncommon anywhere else. The last time I was there the was a kid screaming at a nearby table. I think I’m a pretty easy guy to satisfy but I expect better than what this place has to offer.

Decided to try this place the other night since it wasn’t to far and had 5 stars on Unilocal. My meal was ok but not good enough to say i’d give it another chance. I had the prime rib and half of it was fat. It was cooked medium rare just as I ordered, but I can usually eat an entire steak fat and all, couldn’t do it here. My wife had the ribs and they had excessive fat as well. The kids did enjoy their food and the service was prompt and did a good job of keeping our beverages full. The prices are reasonable altho we could have gone elsewhere for better food at a comparable amount. The place was busy by the time we left, so it must be a popular joint, just not up to my taste.
