Craved some Portuguese was heading to Churrasqueira Ribatejo it was closed so came to Docas. Oh, haven’t been here in maybe 6 — 7 years & I remember it as having good food. The place hasn’t changed & it was full. It looks like local Portuguese families based on the conversations I’m hearing — it’s not Spanish. One table available & I was told to seat myself. Ordered three appetizers shrimp in garlic sauce, one cod cake & one shrimp cake & glass of red wine, no white wine available only Portuguese red. All three items arrived at the same time. A plate of medium size shrimp in garlic sauce nothing more, nothing less, cod cake, shrimp cake. Shrimp were maybe slightly overcooked nice garlic flavor with a hint of heat. I was leery of the cod fish cake because if it tastes fishy I’m done with the whole meal. First bit it was very tasty & no fish taste at all. Next, came the shrimp cake — umm — the cod cake was better. I finished both cakes and took half the shrimps home. Yes, I would recommend this, three stars simply because of the small meal sample. BTW the red wine was just fine.

We order from Docas a lot. This is a real Portuguese Restaurant, the fish come with bones and the food is straight up. We order the Salmon with veggies and the chips. Delicious! We also enjoy the grilled octopus. Don’t be intimidated by the men standing outside, they are harmless and respectful! Great spot, simple food that fills you. The portions are HUGE, you can have 2 meals out of each dish unless you are super hungry. Try this place!

Wow! The food here is so Amazing! Come here for authentic Portuguese cuisine with an old-world, family touch. You will not be disappointed. I ordered the Portuguese pork stew and it is out of this world. The atmosphere and the staff is tremendous and caring. Best restaurant is Ossining.

Family style Portuguese gathering spot with fantastic recipes I’d never tasted in the States. We had greens and homemade sausage soup, olives and bread, chicken blood stew, whole cod, lots of veggie sides. Enormous portions which we gleefully wrapped up for home. This must have been what Duarte’s in Pescadero was like in its first years. –A young waitress who could be running the whole country; I loved watching her handle 50 things at once w/o blinking. This is a place to be respectful if you are a visitor; and I loved showing my appreciation to be included.

Authentic Portuguese restaurant — sausage appetizer is a must!!! Shrimp appetizer was good but not spectacular. Waitress recommend the Cod plate. It was fabulous. Do not pass it up. Generous portions. BYOB. Purchased a bottle next door at the Wine Store $ 5 cork charge. Not bad. The service was quick even though the place was full. Highly recommend if you want an authentic Portuguese meal. Will definitely be back.

One of my closest friends and his wife always raved about this place and we went there Friday night. While not exactly much to look at and it’s byob, I have to say we really enjoyed the food. The sausage appetizer was very tasty, the shrimp prepared butterfly style were large and delicious and the skirt steak was better than I had in restaurants costing double the price. The service was very good. Looking forward to returning.

We had a truly terrible experience at this restaurant. Not only was the service extremely slow but the waitress was exceedingly rude. We actually went out of our way to be friendly to her and to give her the benefit of the doubt. But she was persistently snotty to our dining party and to several other parties in the restaurant. If you are the manager of this restaurant please do something about this waitress. Her behavior was unacceptable. We ordered several different dishes and all of them seemed carelessly prepared with poor quality ingredients and were either bland/tasteless or tasted outright bad. We love Portuguese food and frequently eat Portuguese. The food at Doca’s was by far the worst Portuguese food we have ever had. A small detail compared to the above… but the atmosphere was poor and the bathrooms were dirty. If you like exceedingly slow service, food that tastes bad and waitresses that insult you then this would be the place to go. Otherwise I would avoid it and eat elsewhere.

Perfectly delightful casual funky small restaurant in Ossining. Res a must for larger group and yummy unusually prepared Portugese cuisine. Recommend complete appetizer meal of clams, mussels, octopus, fish cakes. Most notable is the extremely accommodating staff and BYOB.

I always hate leaving a negative review, but we had a short time before Court and were promised our meal in 15 minutes… it came 30 min later(really not a big deal), BUT my meidum t-bone steak was cooked EXTREMELYWELL-DONE. I mean, it was so overdone it was difficult to cut. I asked the waitress to take at least 50% off the price, and she dropped it $ 6 or about 35% — which was nice, but really she should have comp’d it. Definitely will never be back.

Doca’s is a solid restaurant in Ossining, with some definite pluses and deltas! Feels like a great place for the Portuguese community to hang out and eat reasonable authentic food– but seemed a little expensive for what you get. My favorite part was BYOB– from the liquor store next door you can pick up a bottle of wine, and they have many bottles from Portugal and Spain to match the meal. Awesome. Food varied a lot from plate to plate. As a vegetarian, I was caught off guard by meat(pork I think?) in my vegetable soup, so that was passed off to a family member and I picked at vegetable sides. The soup smelled fantastic and got rave reviews from said family member. Potatoes were amazing, but a friend was not impressed with the quality of the salt cod(«Chewy»)– but I didn’t try it.

My wife and I went to Docas despite the so-so reviews. We were looking for something different. Well I am glad we did. The food was excellent and the portions were huge. There did seem to be only one server but she did a very good job of taking care of everyone. My wife and I ordered steaks. She had the Grilled T-bone and I had the Grilled T-bone Docas Style with shrimp and clams. We were both very happy with our meals. Give this place a shot.

We went here because we knew that they would be broadcasting the EuroCup semi-finals & it was convenient as we live in Ossining. The décor is kitschy & the clientele made me feel as though I’d stepped into a little neighborhood European café… which I really enjoyed. An assortment of Portuguese-speaking men lined the bar… watching soccer & sipping beverages. There was a notice on the door that they’d not yet received their liquor license but you could B.Y.O. for a bottle opening fee of $ 5. I picked up a bottle of port next door at the new wine store(which is great) — I did find out after the fact that they do serve beer & wine. No harm… we savored our drinks throughout lunch & the game. The service was friendly. The portions were huge. I started with a shrimp cake, which was okay. It was a bit on the greasy side. I had the salmon & vegetables. The salmon was done perfectly & was really delicious. Another in the party started with a sausage appetizer which itself could’ve been a meal. He then had a chicken cutlet that was quite good, slightly oily but not so much to spoil the meal. It came with french fries which seemed to be of the previously frozen variety. Those didn’t impress me. We had espressos after the meal which were very good. I gotta’ say, the pros outweighed the cons. I like this place & will be going back for more long lunch/soccer viewing!

Food was OK, but not great. Service was indifferent at best(e.g., I had given up on the possibility of getting more water when oddly enough they refilled the glass after the meal was over). I got into a big fight with the waitress over the bill(long, unpleasant story). I will definitely never go back to this restaurant.

there aren’t many tables so we had to wait at the bar… but it’s a byob. Luckily there is a wine store five feet away. we got a bottle and settled in for an evening. while we were waiting the host stopped by just to see how we were doing. when a table finally opened uo we were seated promptly. My wife ordered the grilled fish and I got the dobrada, a traditional tripe and whit bean stew. This has got to be one of the most flavorful meals I’ve eaten in a long time! at the end of the night the bill was less than $ 40. Good service, good food, good people.

This is one of our favorite lunch spots when we need a break from the office. The service is prompt, the food is usually good and there are invariably a few swarthy gentlemen at the bar. I definitely recommend ordering seafood from the specials posted rather than the printed menu. They also brew a hell of a cup of coffee. One of the best meals I’ve had here was the grilled squid special which was a garlicky delight. Drawbacks of Docas — the décor, the food tends to be oily

Doca’s is great food and is very reasonable considering the price gouging prevalent in Westchester. I’m a fan of the cold grilled squid salad salad appetizer. Well prepared fish and the delicious sangria are staples ar Doca’s. One of the best restos in Ossining.

Doca’s is a true Portuguese restaurant. It’s also more of a bar than a restaurant, but straddles the two in order to fill the void left by the closing of a larger Portuguese restaurant a few doors down. The owner of Doca’s used to work there, and branched out on his own. The bar is not a problem now that smoking is banned, but a lively crowd of my countrymen usually gather at the bar, especially when a soccer game is on the Portuguese channel, which is of course almost daily. Foreigners(aka, Americans) are always graciously attended, though the wait staff doesn’t always speak English. Wait for the owner(Abel) or his wife to clarify any questions you might have. The food can be good, but the ingredients used are not always the best(frozen vegetables, for example). Desserts are also hit or miss. If you’re Portuguese and live in the area, you don’t really care though, as this is one of two remaining Portuguese restaurants in Ossining, so you take what you can get. Now that I’m living in SF with not a single Portuguese restaurant in sight, I definitely miss Doca’s.
