Clear

We had clear for a couple of years while we lived in southern OP. At first the service was spotty and even though the map online showed that we supposedly had full service, internet and shows would lock up constantly. Later in the two years it got better, but would still lock up occasionally. We recently moved to Belton, MO where our neighborhood sort of has service (our street is listed as poor service on the online map). Internet/​shows hardly worked at all so we decided to cancel. We got another cable/​internet service, and between work and settling in, forgot to call and cancel until after our next monthly payment had gone through. I called to cancel and the person (obviously in another country and barely speaking English) kept trying to convince me that we should keep the service, even though it didn’t work. I told him 7 times that I just wanted to cancel the service, finally raising my voice. He then put me on hold. 5 min later he came back and told me our service would be cancelled at the end of our next billing cycle, 25 days from now. I told him no, that I wanted it cancelled now and refunded the prorated amount for the remainder of the billing period since we hadn’t been using it since before we were charged. He just argued with me, so I asked for a supervisor. After arguing with me he finally got a supervisor who was also rude about the situation, snapping at me «If you had read your agreement it says no refunds». I explained to him that most companies refund for unused periods when you prepay, such as cable, phone, and utilities. He replied «I don’t care what other companies do, that’s not what we do».
Poor internet service… poor customer service… if you’re thinking about getting clear, run away!

Worst. Internet. Ever. Actually, CLEAR is one of the worst companies I’ve ever had to deal with in my 30 years. I live in Mid-​town Kansas City (close to westport) and have found that my connection is on par with dial-​ups I’ve had. (Only it costs $ 50 per month!) Whenever I call them (over a dozen times) they tell me that they’re experiencing high volume and equalizing everyone’s bandwidth. Evidently all times (even early morning like 3:00 am Central time) are «high volume». Of course I played with the modem for hours, my signal strength on the modem is always full strength, and the Clear website connection support shows that I’m getting full strength connection.
Also, they claim that there are «no contracts» and maybe that’s true now, but I got roped into a contract and they’re going to charge me a huge fee simply because I’m moving out of the area and into a town with no Clear Internet available. thank god.
Basically, if you are considering CLEAR internet, you need to RUN, FLY! get as far as you can from these scam artists!

I have Clear and overall I’ve been very pleased with it. I have not tried using it while driving or switching from 4G to 3G. I have neighbors that also use Clear and they love it. Sometimes, I do encounter disconnects, but not often. I have used it on the Missouri side and it does seem to be faster over there. In all fairness, I do have an older computer and it’s just not what it used to be. For my money, Clear has been the perfect solution to my internet connection needs.
