Well I will say that maybe I got bad waitstaff. but that’s still the restaurants fault. I ordered a tequila that was listed, after five minutes it was out, another member of our party ordered a Pisco Sour and they didn’t have that either. two out of four drinks nuttin! My wife ordered the chicken enchiladas and got a beef item… uggh! Overall food wasn’t bad, but service was inaccurate, slow, and unprofessional. Will try one more time, and reserve the right to adjust

Loved this place! The food was delicious(had the Street Tacos) and the service was very friendly and helpful. Can’t wait to go back in warm weather and sit outside on their patio.

I’ve been here before when no one was there and it was good. However, today I made reservations for lunch and we were told they couldn’t seat us for an hour and 20 minutes. I would definitely say that is unacceptable.

This has become my favorite restaurant in southern Joco. Have never had a bad meal there. The sangria makes a great primer for the main course.

We had an incredible time. The place was packed but only had to wait 3 minutes for a table. The food was on point and just like(if not better!) than the MHK Bolo’s. We have already been back multiple times and making plans to go again! This is precisely what this end of KC needed.

At the request of my boyfriend(who sings the praises of the Cocobolo’s in Manhattan), he, his sister, my friend and I went to celebrate his and my birthdays(Feb 4 and 5) last Saturday. The hostesses were super sweet, the drinks were awesome(yay for the sangria being perfect and not too sweet!), food was great and to my pleasant surprise, I ran into an old friend who is managing there, Jacob. I love the fact that he was dressed to the nines; it feels old-school and proper– a nod to better times. He was so gracious and made our night by serving us a pitcher of sangria and gorgeous, delicious desserts to help us celebrate! By far the best service I’ve seen in the KC metro in a long time. Also– our server was excellent; she provided great recommendations for food, anticipated refills and never made us wait for our next drink.(I really wish I could remember her name; she had really nice long-bobbed hair and mentioned she used to work in apartment/condo leases– in case someone can recognize that description and tell her«good job.») We will definitely be going back!

Stopped by for lunch — heard about this place from a friend. Had the Mahi Mahi sandwich with crispy waffle fries and it was delicious. Great service overall. Menu looks great and the atmosphere is really cool — definitely coming back! LOVE it.

Came here for restaurant week 2016. It was not my top choice for the day, but we ended up here due to other places being booked… and I’m glad we did. From memory, I thought this place was just a-okay, but boy I was wrong. We did the restaurant week menu. Firsts: We had the chile con carne and chile con verde. Both were awesome and warmed the soul on a cold day… the verde had quite a bit of heat. For entrees we had the pork sandwich and the tacos. Both were very filling and very good. We dined with a baby and they were very accommodating with that. We were shocked with how many other babies we saw there(5 on a Saturday afternoon). We even had a baby related SNAFU and they were very kind about both cleaning it up and getting us a replacement. Kudos for that! If you want to spice it up in the southern JOCO then check out CocoBolos!

My wife and I along with another couple had dinner at CoCoBoLo’s the other night and we all thought it was fantastic! I had a previous negative experience with a long wait and not a very good hostess but gave them another shot and they came through with a dining experience much better than we ever expected. Food was great, had Mahi mahi, Train Wreck, among others.

I can’t comment on the quality of the food because we didn’t get to try it. Friday night my wife and I along with another couple decided to have dinner at Cocobolos at Prairiefire. We arrived at 7:00 pm after a movie, we were told by the receptionist the wait time would be 25 minutes. After 1 hour and 10 minutes I asked in a very nice way how much longer it would be, she didn’t give me a time she just asked for my name looked at the list and said that we would be the next to be seated. After another 20 minutes the two receptionists were talking to a male employee that come over to talk to them. As they were talking they looked our direction, after a few more minutes the male employee came over to say«I could probably get you guys seated in 15 or 20 minutes but our kitchen is backed and you wouldn’t get your food for an hour after we seated you.» After we waited one hour and 45 minutes this is the way they treat their customers? The employees need to be trained or at least they need to hire people that have some common decency to have told us this sooner out of respect for other people’s time. After this experience we will not be back for another try and you can be sure we will share our negative experience with our friends, neighbors and family members.

Just went tonight for their burgers. I looooove their bolo burgers! Candied bacon, fried something(green tomato?), avocado, and pulled pork! Sounds amazing no? Yes. It used to be. The burger I got tonight, the same bolo burger, but not even close to what I remember it to be. There was no pulled pork. The meat tasted dry and not fresh. And the 2 pieces of bacon were not candied and they tasted dry and with no flavor. I don’t even know how there can be not tasty bacon, but apparently it exists on this burger. Anyway, very disappointed. Although the service and staff were great! Hostess was very friendly and sweet and the waitress was attentive. Just wish the food was better.

We ventured out during restaurant week to try something outside of our comfort zone and ended up here at CocoBolos. My husband is a huge fan of this type of food so he was super excited to dine here. First of all, let me advise anyone who is eating here(or at anywhere near Prairie Fire) on a busy Friday or Sat night to utilize the complimentary valet. We had called ahead and staff alerted us or we would not have known. This made the difficult parking situation a breeze so props to them for having that all worked out. The waitstaff was very kind and attentive. However, the food was really just meh. My husband got the bacon wrapped shrimp as an appetizer and he really said they were very good. I chose the chicken enchilada’s for my entrée. They were drenched in a white sauce and filled with shredded chicken which was good but not great. My husband selected the thai pan pork which he described as «spicy for no reason» and he enjoys spicy food. We both enjoyed our desserts(try the cheesecake!) and had plenty of food for leftovers the next day so we can’t really complain. I guess overall I don’t feel like it was a good bang for the buck considering this was close to a $ 100 meal with tip and we had no alcohol. There are many, many other selections in the area that can really knock your socks off for a «fancy» date night.

Came in after being at a group work function across the street. We sat at the bar… had a great bartender Jessica. Had delicious street tacos… the best was the pork carnitas. Delicious! Also had the Mahi Mahi and chicken pastor… they were both good as well but enjoied the pork carnitas the most, they properly put chicharones on top of the soft pork and salty queso fresco however instead of cut strips of the ‘chich, they grind it into a a course crumble that adds a wonderful crunch atop the taco. The mgr. «Laddy» was great in his attention to us and making our short inexpensive evening worthly of another visit! Viva la Street Tacos!

Get the Carnitas Tacos! We were going to go next door to the sushi place but they turned us away. Best thing ever since we stumbled on this gem. Sounds like previous management screwed the menu. Give it another try… especially if you like carnitas tacos.

Definitely a nice spot to pop in Overland Park before a movie! On Thursday night they have the Bolos Burger half price for $ 7 it’s loaded with bacon, carnitas, and avocado… Need I say more. With the best bartender ever Jessica Ames mixing up awesome margaritas and palomas, you can not go wrong!

I am so happy to see the original menu in effect. This is the Bolos I’ve loved since 2000. There is literally nothing I wouldnt recommend off the menu! Everything from the atmosphere to the food and staff, I am quick to become a regular there again!

We went here last night and asked to sit on the patio after being told there was a 40 min wait. It was a very HOT evening but we were not even given the option of the patio when we checked in at first -! The service was so slow our server apologized, «It’s my first night on the floor.» I can’t really blame him for a restaurant that seemed to be struggling with so many things when only marginally busy on a Saturday night. The best part of the meal was the guac + chips and the live outdoor music(provided by Newport Grill). My husband had the Street Tacos and I had the Fish Tacos. Both were lacking flavor and not memorable. The rice is supposed to be cilantro-lime, but tasted like plain white rice. Our kids meals were a beef and cheese burrito which was slightly burned and mac-n-cheese which was a rigatoni with more of pablano cheese sauce? The house margs were very average too. Just REALLY sad and could be so much better.

I went to this restaurant with my partner after wanting to see what prairiefire was all about. We were expecting a good Mexican restaurant that was serving some fancier fare, especially given the price. This is not what we got! I must say, the drinks were good. We got two different kinds of margaritas. They were strong and delicious. That’s when the delicious stopped. The chips were stale and the salsa wasn’t spicy and only a lateral move from pace picante. The meals were also unimpressive. I got the Mole chicken with black beans. The chicken and bacon tasted old and the mole was undeveloped. My partner got the train wreck and it was ok, but nothing special. We could have found better fate for half the price at any number of other restaurants in the area. For adequate service and decent drinks, this restaurant gets a second star.

My husband and I tried out Coco Bolos on a Wednesday night(6:15). Like many of the other Unilocalers, we were underwhelmed. And, judging by the nearly empty restaurant, the reviews are spreading. We ordered the guacamole appetizer to start. It was unimpressive and lacked flavor. I ordered the street tacos and thought they were a little dry and pretty bland. My husband ordered the Baja Fish Tacos and we both agreed they were fine but nothing exceptional. The fish was very spicy and that took away from the flavor. The positives of this place are the atmosphere, location and service. They have a good patio and a friendly staff. In the end, we decided this place makes a better happy hour spot than dining experience.

My wife and spent a Friday evening at PrairieFire and the CocoBolos patio cried out to us as great place to spend a sunny evening. It took a little while to get service at the bar, but it was moderately busy so I certainly didn’t hold this against them. We ordered drinks — including a Caipirinha, which is a Brazilian concoction of sugar cane hard liquor and wine, and the bartender was very accommodating. The food left a lot to be desired. We sampled the meatballs — which were not well seasoned and just had an ordinary ground beef taste. The issue is that they were doused in marinara sauce, and the combination of regular ground beef in an Italian sauce didn’t sit right with me… I felt there should have been a basil or Italian seasoning kick to it. Also, the meatballs were not evenly heated up — an dead giveaway of being microwaved. We also ordered the crab meat quesadillas and were less than impressed. The crab meat was bland and the quesos were so overloaded with black beans that they fell apart before they could be handled. Mahi Mahi entrees were just not good enough to justify the price. Aside from a nice patio bar atmosphere in the up-and-coming PrairieFire development, this restaurant doesn’t really set itself apart and the quality of food leaves a lot to be desired. I would not recommend it.

My husband, baby, and I stopped here on our way out of town. We didn’t realize, but due to Cinco de Mayo, they were giving away free chips and salsa. I loved that the menu was modern and interesting. My husband tried Bolo’s Burger(8oz Fresh Ground Beef, Pork Carnitas, Tempura Fried Poblano, Pepper Jack Cheese, Avocado, Smoked Bacon and Tomatillo, Jalapeño Jam served with French Fries) and I opted for Bolo’s Burrito(Large Flour Tortilla Loaded with 8-Hour Pork Carnitas, Cilantro-Lime Rice, Black Beans, Monterey Jack Cheese, Smothered in Chile Verde and Cocobolos Queso, served with Tortilla Chips). We were very pleased with both! Our waitress was also very friendly and accommodating, finding us a booth with a little more privacy so I could nurse my son. Happy customers!

I went here last Saturday night in a group of 7. I was really shocked at how easily we found a table when everything around the area was such a zoo! Our waitress was absolutely lovely and made fantastic recommendations for drinks and food. She suggested that we try the house special, which was perfectly cooked salmon with a teriyaki glaze, and set over sauteed peas, carrots, and cherry tomatoes($ 24 was a little steep, but there was enough to share between two of us, which made it totally reasonable). The queso tasted great while we waited for the rest of our party to arrive, but it did start to seem a little like velveeta once it began to cool down. I don’t recall the price of the appetizer, but it may be worth trying another option if you’re looking for something a bit more unique. Two of the others tried the house sangria for drinks(~$ 9), and they couldn’t stop raving about how delicious it was(or stop ordering them either)! For their margarita, you select the type of tequila you’d like, and the waitress guided me towards the best selection for the price and kind of flavor I had in mind. The beverage was made with fresh ingredients, had just the right amount of punch to it, and was overall very delicious. In general, I really liked this place and would come again. If I could make any changes, however, I might suggest that they add a couple more options to the menu for vegetarians, or some food options that are under the $ 10 price range.

Attention K-State alums: this is NOT the same Coco Bolos as you’re used to in Manhattan. At first glance, it seems to share a few similar menu items including my all-time favorite, the Tijuana Trainwreck. Description was even very similar except this came with cilantro rice and black beans instead of the mexican potatoes I love at the other one. We started with an appetizer of the street corn. It was actually really good served with some chips. You didn’t get very much for $ 7 but nonetheless, I enjoyed it. 4 stars for the street corn. Of course, I ordered the Tijuana Trainwreck and was disappointed to say the least. This version had very little sauce(like the corn tortillas had just been dipped in the verde sauce) but did have a decent amount of chicken. I felt like it was just chicken, tortillas and a tiny bit of sauce. The Manhattan one was SWIMMING in sauce and cheese(delicious!) but this one lacked both… very dry. The cilantro rice did not have enough cilantro for my taste(I didn’t detect any unless it was sprinkled on top.) The black beans were delicious though, I think they had some chunks of meat in it. Lastly. the service. I’ve definitely had worse, but the thing that gets me — she didn’t refill my water! We sat there for a long time and it was never refilled. She DID stop by a few times and ask us how everything was, but I assumed I didn’t have to REQUEST to have my water refilled so I never said anything, I assumed that was a given. Wrong. I should have asked. If you can’t keep my water(my one drink) refilled– come on. Overall, I’m not impressed. My expectations were probably too high, but like someone else said, for the price, it was sub-par. I will save my Coco Bolos visits for when I go back to Manhattan.

My experience was only at the bar, so that’s what my review will reflect. I stopped by CocoBolos on a day with particularly pleasant weather. This was our choice because of the nice open air bar and because we just wanted a cocktail. Inside, the restaurant had very cute and quirky art on the walls. The bar was very nice and orderly. I ordered the Oaxaca Old Fashioned and my mother ordered the Strange Fruits cocktail. Both were quite tasty and came out quickly. Our bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. She told exactly was what in the drinks and then gave us a fun lesson on mezcals. We both enjoyed our visit and I would definitely return for the bar and possibly to try the food(though it did look a bit pricey when I glanced at the menu).

Short and sweet: After too long of a wait at another restaurant, a few friends and I decided to eat here. It seemed like every other restaurant in Prairiefire was busy, but when we arrived here at 7pm on a Thursday, there were only 2 other parties eating. The menu was pretty simple, but nothing on it looked super appetizing. A strange mix of random kind of Mexican dishes. I decided on the Bolos Burger and was not impressed. Even though it was topped with bacon, pork carnitas, and cheese, it didn’t have a flavor at all and mostly tasted burnt. We also ordered the chips and salsa trio. Our waitress asked us if we would like to try some of the hotter salsas in addition to their standard trio. I like a little heat, so I said yes. The salsa she brought us tasted like tomato bisque and had no heat at all. I would not return to eat here or recommend it to others. I would be surprised if it was even open 6 months from now.
