Steak ‘n Shake

I have had horrible service every time I have come in to dine but tonight I had such a great experience. Our server was amazing at keeping up with us and being kind. I’m truly impressed at how they’ve turned around. I will be back.

I’m really surprised by the poor reviews and felt compelled to write a review as I had a great in dining lunch experience here today. I hadn’t been to one of these in years and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food and price. I eat out at least once a day at restaurants with all different price points and was shocked to learn you can get a seriously delicious fresh made double with fries here for $ 4! This a ridiculous deal! This burger blew Windsteads burger out of the water by a long shot. Not only was it delicious, it was delivered in less than 15 minutes. To top it off, we had the best service. Anthony our server did a great job with recommendations, delivery, and honestly was just a pleasure to speak with. I will definitely be coming back here when caving an old school steak burger and you should too!

Horrible experience. 4 TIMES. My husband and I have been to this establishment 4 times in the last month. We keep going because of how good the shakes and food are and obviously the price is not one to beat (and this location is the one most convenient for us) But come on people, have you ever heard of customer service?! Last night was our most recent experience, It was so bad that we had a laugh at it. First of all about two of the workers look like they were on crack, one was extra rude and our waiter was bad, I mean bad. We waited to be sat and when someone finally came up to us he just looked at us, and my husband finally had to say «two please». This same guy was our waiter. He gave us shakes in to-​go cups, and I was curious why they didn’t give us our shakes in the regular dine-​in cups so I asked him, and he responded «oh no we don’t have any of those anymore» I asked «why is that» he said «oh because the guys in the back don’t feel like washing them». WHAT?! This place has some serious work to do. We are really debating on whether to return or not. And we probably won’t! I have never been there during the day though so maybe different shift, different service? I will update.

Spent nearly 20 minutes in the drive through during my lunch break. I finally pulled out of line and went somewhere else.

Truly pathetic!!! They don’t care about their service, they’ll get to you when they feel fit. I watched the gentleman look at me and walk to the back and make me wait 20 minutes without even taking my order. The place was empty at 4am with just me so what could he possibly be making me wait for.

My soon to be husband and I came up here because we had never been to a Shake n Steak. I would give the food a C+ and the shakes A+. What we were really frustrated with was service. Our waitress was really friendly, but the rest of the staff was distant and kind of rude. We felt extremely rushed and it almost felt like we were an inconvenience to everyone else. I might give it another shot sometime but it left a salty taste in my mouth rather than a sweet taste.

We tried to eat at this establishment yesterday but service was terrible. We were finally seated after waiting several minutes and no one was in line. Once seated our server took around 10 minutes to serve our drinks and that was another disaster. Our tea was sour and we just ended up leaving and what an embarrassment to Steak ‘n Shake

15 minutes to make a shake?!?
The waitress seemed completely uninterested is us, took ages to make two shakes, and didn’t return to take our order until after we had paid since it was going to take far too long to actually eat here.
We ended up at Chick-​fil-​a across the road. About the same quality and ¹⁄₅₀^th the time.

Ok, so I don’t usually even post comments out here. But tonight I am after yet another bad experience at THIS restaurant. A week ago I placed an order for a simple «cheesey cheddar burger». I got home and it was NOT what I ordered. Even the little kitchen receipt said dbl bacon w mayo and lettuce. First off this is not what I ordered. Second there was no bacon on this burger. I don’t like mayo so threw it away after calling the restaurant and speaking to a lady about the situation. She said if I come back they will make me a new one. Ok so I live a couple of miles away but it was cold outside and I wasn’t happy about having to drive back because of their mistake. She took my information and said she was putting it in «the book». So tonight I go to the drive thru and said I’d like a cheesey cheddar burger and explained my name would be in «the book». I not only got the third degree but then they asked me if I had my receipt. WTF. I explained they never told me I needed to keep it as it was for the wrong order anyway! I guess I still have the receipt as I found it when I got home. The young man at the window said well we will replace it this time but I should have kept the receipt. OMG. I let him know he was the one working the window when it happened. He said oh I must have been really busy. They weren’t there was only one other car in the drive thru. So I informed him then they should inform the person who calls in because the store messed up their order that they need to keep it. As I was not told that. He said they couldn’t find «the book». I work for the federal government and would not lie to get a free burger! It was only a cheese burger so they should stop calling it cheesey because it isn’t! They must have cut the cheese portion down. I’m not even sure why I even tried to buy a sandwich there as I have boycotted that place due to an incident a couple years ago when I and a friend stopped there for dinner. We were seated inside and everything was good till we saw our food order delivered to the wrong table. We then watched as the guests were eating French fries off the plates and handling the burgers. They then informed the waitress that they got the wrong order. The waitress carried it to the back then within s minute brought that same food to our table. We asked if that was the same food that was just delivered to the wrong table. Her reply was it is fresh off the grill. We immediately knew she was lying as it would have taken longer then that to get new food to us! We got up and walked out. I’ve never done that but knew that situation was not right.
I will not be back to that place. This did it for me. I work at a restaurant /​bar and would never let this happen. They need better management and training.

Went through the drive-​thru at 1pm on a sat. I only accepted the order because the guy was wearing gloves and I believe he was just handing off the bag, not cooking the food. He was wearing literally the most disgustingly dirty «white» work shirt I’ve ever seen. This was not someone who had something spilled on him, it was soaked in grease, had food stains all over it, it was something pulled off the floor after being worn six times and put on again. From the seated perspective you could see up the sleeves and it was just as filthy inside as outside so I know it wasn’t clean when he put it on. Soooo gross. Had I not been so shocked I probably would have asked for my money back (a girl took my payment, he just handed off the bag).
I did call and eventually after two try’s got a manager who said he’d just gotten there and hadn’t seen the guy. Not really buying that but okay. I don’t know if I’ll go back or not. Despite the fact he had on gloves and only handed off the bag, it was still hard for us to eat the meal after seeing how gross the employee was. Any decent manager, (or fellow employee for that matter), would have immediately sent this guy to get clean clothes.

Less than 1 star. I know you get what you pay for but this place is really bad. I don’t know how I waited for almost 15 minutes in the drive through and got cold food. Everything was cold. And the order was wrong. And pretty poor quality.

Food is okay and shakes were really good. Our waitress was obviously not all there. Kiddie waters for adults and being slow and non-​existent made for a longer dinner. Other waitresses seemed to be a lot better.

Service was VERY slow. The waitress never said hello. She didn’t show us to our table. She just took off and set some menus down then pointed to a table and told us that’s our table. It took 10 minutes to get a milk shake. 15 minutes for water and a ice tea. When I got my ice tea it was yellow… really…yellow ice tea is not ice tea. It’s dirty water. Can’t wait to see how crappy our food is.

I just love me a 3.99 double steak burger meal with a chocolate shake. I have been to many other popular steak burger chains and you just cant go wrong with the classic steak and shake. I do enjoy the others but for the price I prefer steak n shake.

If you’ve been to one Steak ‘n Shake, you’ve been to them all. Burgers are average, milk shakes are good and the service at this one happened to be good. If you’re looking for a gourmet experience, this isn’t the place to come. The burgers are much better than your average fast food places and they do have healthier options.

If you don’t like you’re burgers super greasy, order them «dry».
Breakfast is consistently good and inexpensive.
The fry seasoning makes everything better.

Service is an abomination, very slow. If you have a lot of time on your hands, this is the place. This used to be a go to place for me, but they have become kind of dirty and worn, like Winsteads. Also, like Winsteads, the food is still worth the stop. The steak burger here is a good as Freddy’s and much cheaper, so yes, I’m a fan. Not as nice as they used to be (some cleaning would be in order, and faster service).

The service was okay, the food was okay (although when the fries are good, they are VERY good).
Keep an eye on the check; soft drinks and shakes are half price during their happy hour, but show up on the check as full price. The waitress told me not to worry, that it would be taken off at the register. It doesn’t make sense, but it did ring up correctly at the register, once a cashier noticed me.

In the past I’ve had some pretty weird things happen at Steak N Shake (not only this location, but definitely this location has had its share)… I really wanted a hot fudge sundae. I was on SMP and it was rush hour. I finally decided that this would be the easiest place to stop for a quick fix since it was on the right side of the street and close to a traffic light.
I was greeted at the drive thru and placed my order. When I pulled around, I was greeted again by a friendly guy who smiled and was polite (since the last time I was there, I had to wake the employee up that was asleep in a booth; this was already a vast improvement).
I was given my treat and headed home to dig in. It was close to $ 3 for this sundae, and it wasn’t that big, but it did have a lot of hot fudge on it, so that was exciting.
Unfortunately, the ice cream was literally ICE cream, as in it had HUGE ice chunks in it. I guess they scooped it with a wet scoop (yum, milky water ice from last Tuesday). So pretty much the whole ice cream part was sorta grody.
Hey, the hot fudge was good.

It has some good stuff. Drive thru, friendly staff, consistent food, good coupons & deals. Food is always the same, sometimes they forget to put something in your sack, but are happy to make it right. 24 hour place!
