Doughby’s

I got takeout from here for dinner tonight with a group of my friends. Overall everyone was satisfied with their meals. The Miami crêpe with strawberries, bananas, and nutella is highly recommended.

Specials every day (used to be $ 5 but now $ 5.50 calzones of the day) and delivery (no longer free and charge is not mentioned until you ask about it). You won’t know their summer hours, it’s a mystery every time. Workers do not care about their jobs, but I don’t care, because I love those freaking calzones. FML.

I can hardly think of a restaurant I’ve been to with more horrendous service — other than a Taco Bell in Valdosta, Georgia. I’ve stopped by this restaurant a few times, usually late on a weeknight when I was the only customer present. It still took an insane ammount of time to get my food — I’m talking thirty minutes for a calzone. One time I made the greivous error of ordering from Doughby’s. I ordered online… only to NEVER receive the order! I tried calling the store numrous days to never have my calls answered — no voicemail, just indefintie dial tone. Finally, after about a month of waiting, I angrily called Doughby’s once more — it turns out they had been either closed or had limited hours for the past month or so due to winter term, but never had any indication of that on their online ordering service. Plus, when I tried to rectify the situation, the staff was rather belligerent and didn’t offer anything to make up for the experience. The only reason I am giving the restaurant two stars is because the food is decent — nothing spectacular. Some meat and cheese with sauce stuffed in fried dough. It’d not terrible, but the terrible service leaves a sour taste in the mouth.

Update: They finally refunded my money after three weeks, so they are back up to three stars. As can be seen in other reviews caveat emptor when ordering online.

The occurrence described in Ben H’s review also happened to me. I ordered food from this place tonight. An hour later it hadn’t arrived, so I called them and repeatedly got a busy signal. I called their other location in Lexington and was told that the Oxford location had closed permanently. This is not stated anywhere on their website. Even if the information I got is wrong and the Oxford location hasn’t closed, I’ll be reluctant to order from them again.

I had a chicken parmesan calzone at Doughby’s this past weekend while in Oxford, and I wish I hadn’t. While the dough was pretty good, he tomato sauce was thin, mild, and flavorless, and the chicken and parmesan were both subpar. Maybe the food was subpar because I ate there at 2:00 AM and the staff was tired, but I’d skip Doughby’s if I were looking for a bite again in Oxford.

Normally I love this place, but when I went there earlier tonight I had some of the worst service I’ve ever experience. My friend and I called in our order for pick up. When we walked in, no one even greeted us with a simple, «hello.» The place was pretty much dead so we just sat down at a table. After about 5 minutes I went up to ask them if I could add some fries to my order, since I figured they were still working on it anyway. The employee asked what my order was and I told him we had called in and what was in the order. He grabbed the order and said it had been ready for a while. I’m not really sure why he didn’t ask us before if we were waiting for something, but whatever. I told him I would wait for the fries and he acted like it was a HUGE inconvenience. Anyway, I paid for the order and left.
On top of that, the fries were cold and I paid for a cup of bleu cheese that I never got.
Needless to say, the staff really needs to work on their customer service skills.

Seriously great service and calzones. I haven’t tried the crepes, but they have free delivery and so many different options for their calzones! I would definitely recommend this to anyone in the mood for pizza for one.

Easily the best calzones and crepes I’ve had in 20 years.
Phenomenally good calzone — thin, crisp crust, with tangy, slightly acidic, nicely spiced marinara sauce. Good cheese mix that includes ricotta. Nice ingredients.
Crêpe was light, fluffy and excellent.
A great value, too.
Awesome. My highest rating. I’ll never come to Oxford again and not stop by Doughby’s, and I’ll probably crave it until next time…

Easily the best overall value for a quick meal in Oxford. Large selection of calzones, crepes, wings, salads, and a number of side items. $ 5 for the calzone of the day every day. Fast, delicious, and affordable, plus they deliver.
