Stopped by here inadvertantly a couple years ago about 2pm on my way to another store. I wasn’t too impressed, and the buffet looked cold and sad indeed. I think they sold some desserts but none looked too appetizing. Perhaps I should come here right at lunchtime when the food is still fresh. It’s a small space, one of the few aisles in the store had enough room for one person at a time. The air inside was stagnant and a bit suffocating and hot. I think I’ll stick to my Manila Oriental off Commerce St. in Springfield.

When we travel my wife and I always try to find some Filipino«soul food». Beth’s Kitchen filled the bill admirably. From the cozy house setting to the tasty turo turo we had a «ferpect» dinner. Two entrees and rice was $ 5.99 so the price is right! Tonight among the many selections they offered was Pinakbet,(sauté bittermellon) so I was sold immediately. The owner even brought some extra Bagoong when I asked. While we were there several Filipino customers came in for take out. A good sign. The only down is the styrofoam containers and plastic dinnerware but it’s what’s inside that counts and Beth’s serves up some tasty home cookin. Masarap, busog na busog! I might mention if you’re using a GPS you might have a problem finding it, the address is wrong here, though the map is OK. My GPS wouldn’t recognize the addy and sent me too far south. I called the resturant and was told Beth’s is in Oxon Hill NOT Fort Washington, changing the town GPS brought me right to the place.

According to the owners, Beth’s Kitchen just opened three months before this review. It is located in what looks like a house on Livingston Road about half-way between Indian Head Highway and Oxon Hill Road. It is very similar to North Star Bakery in appearance but with less food and only a hint of bakery items. The buffet selection is sparse but the food was good. I had the two entrée deal for $ 5.99. The kare-kare and menudo were very tasty and the portion sizes were adequate with plenty of rice. The owners are from the Philippine province of Pampanga which most Filipinos acknowledge for it’s culinary art. The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly. Minus points for the dining area being too small though: only two tables near the front. There was also no silverware or plates — everything was served in styrofoam take-out boxes with plastic forks. They are CASHONLY… they don’t take credit cards or personal checks, which is never any fun. All that being said, I think overall it’s a nice little family-owned eatery and a good place to go for Filipino dining if you are local to the area.(Photos uploaded…)
