I hate to be the first person to give 3 stars, especially since I’m not from here(but don’t let that completely discount my review, I am lover of food and the eating of food!). I was rather disappointed with Fiddleheads but there is a good chance that I had really high expectations based on the reviews I read before I went. Here is my rationale for the 3 stars: –I’m not sure when it was decided that it needed to be «dressy» but I don’t think the atmosphere really calls for it to be dressy. Don’t get me wrong, I love get dressed up to go out to dinner but«dressy» is bit much. –Overall, the food was good. The only thing I had that was spectacular was the Manhattan clam chowder. Probably one of the best Manhattan clam chowder I’ve ever had. However, I did find a bay leaf in the chowder. Hey, I know when I make anything with bay leaves at home, sometimes I can’t find them all but I’m actually paying to eat here and bay leaves are a funny thing in that everyone has a different reaction if they actually eat them and none of them are ever good(I know not to eat bay leaves, but maybe someone else doesn’t). I also got the Tilapia with cous cous and broccoli. Tilapia was good but nothing to write home about. Broccoli is broccoli and the cous cous turned into a mess resembling grits. –The wine I got was priced at $ 7/galss but it reminded me of Boone’s Farm. I don’t blame the place for serving bad wine, that’s my fault for choosing it, but I will blame them for stocking it. –I got crème brûlée for desert — THISWASNOTREALCREMEBRULEE. It was a cold, solid custard with a sugar crust. Crème Brulee should be light, fluffy, and slightly warmed. –My server was really nice and very attentive. Probably the best aspect of the meal. –Tonight was a Wednesday and the next youngest patron in there had to have been at least 60. Maybe on other nights they draw a younger crowd but I definitely felt a bit out of place. I didn’t take this into account for the rating, but it’s just a note. I just want to say that this place isn’t bad in the least bit, but I my overall experience was definitely not as good as everyone else who has reviewed thus far. I just wanted to put my two cents in on the off chance that someone else from out of town thinks about going here so they are fully prepared. I have the Wildfish chain at home, and they are much better for the same price.

This restaurant wins the award for serving the most clams I’ve ever had on a bowl of linguine and clam sauce. So many that a member of my family who was seated across the table asked me «Is there any linguine with that clam sauce»? 12 large, plump, and juicy Littleneck clams over a bed of perfectly al dente linguine and a sauce so full of herbs that it wasn’t white but green. It was very good. I started my meal off with their Crab Bouillabaisse, which was pretty much a Manhattan Crab Chowder(swap the typical clams with crab). It looked almost exactly like their Manhattan Clam Chowder which several members of my family ordered. The soup was okay. I’ve had worse, I’ve had better. The Clam Chowder eaters also agreed. They have a nice Prixe Fixe menu here that gives you an appetizer, entrée, and dessert for $ 24.95. It’s a good deal. The Pan Roasted Tilapia was enjoyed by several people at my table, as well as the Grilled Marinated Skirt Steak. The Warm Apple Crisp and Crème Brulee desserts were all well received. The décor is clean, casual, and comfortable. The servers are very nice, polite, and helpful. I would like to give them 5 stars, but there were some little things that could use improvement. While they served me an abundance of clams, a few were so chewy that they were hard to eat. A steak knife was needed to cut the broccoli. It was a white tablecloth kind of place, but no crumbs were swept off of the table before dessert. The meal server put the wrong plates down on the table in front of the wrong people for two courses. Nothing that couldn’t be overlooked, or that would keep me from coming here again. Just little things that mark the difference between good and great.

First of all the correct address is 62 South Street. If you plug 62B South Road into your GPS your gonna get lost, trust me I did… Now on to the review… I went to this place on Valentines Eve and it was packed, I called at about 5PM that day and couldn’t get a reservation until 9:15PM, so the place does get packed. It’s located on the outskirts of the Oyster Bay village(which isn’t that big anyway), so still within walking distance to the heart of the village. It’s got an old style american eatery look to it, tucked in a small strip store which contains a beer distributor and liquor store(not the most envious location). The restaurant is not very big, maybe 15 tables or so, it’s tightly packed, but you are not piled on top of each other though it may appear that way. It has a small bar area which seats about 10 – 12 people. It has a full bar, but not the type of bar you would go for happy hour, it’s pretty much there just to give those waiting for their reservation a quick diversion. Eating areas are split into two different areas one side has the bar and the other is the main dining room. It’s split about 4 tables on the bar side and 11 on the dining side. The dining side is next to the kitchen, but don’t worry you don’t feel like your eating in the kitchen. The interior is classy, white table clothes and quaint. Now onto the meal. My reservation was at 9:15PM, I arrived at about 30 minutes early, so I went to the bar for margarita or two… The bar as I said was tight and people were eating their meals there so it made you feel a little awkward to nudge yourself in to get a drink, luckily we got our drinks right as a some seats at the bar opened up, otherwise you would feel like your imposing on those eating near you. The margaritas were very good, they used a good tequila, I think patron from the look of the bottle, and nice amount of tequila… 25 minutes after my reservation they seated us. Now onto the best part, the food… I went to this place for seafood so seafood is what I ate… For appetizers we ordered mussles and crab cakes. Their Mussels were served in a shallots, lemon, garlic and white wine sauce. The mussels were delicious. No sand or grissle in them, also no seaweed. They were some of the best I have ever had. The crab cakes were also awesome, it was one jumbo crab cake with tons of crab in it(not full of bread crumbs), it was served with like spicy russian dressing sauce, yummy. Now onto the main course, I had the pan seared bay scallops served over a mixture of fine greens. It was a nice size portion of scallops, they gave me about 5 or 6 nice size scallops. Delicious, they were seared and spiced to perfection. For desert, I had a coffee flavored crème brûlée. It was to die for!!! one of the best deserts I have ever had. It was rich with coffee flavor, tasted like hagen das coffee ice cream. My bill for night about $ 125, which included $ 32 dollars in margaritas(four of them), $ 12 for mussels, $ 13 for the crab cake, $ 56 for scallops($ 28 per order), and about $ 6 for the crème brûlée. Just a note this place is fancy casual, wear a collared shirt and khakis or a blazer, this place is full of the Oyster Bay crowd and lets face it they have money so they don’t dress like bums!!!
The food and drink here deserve five stars, awesome!!! The place is cramped until you sit down, my recommendation don’t show up early for your reservation, waiting in the bar area can be uncomfortable. Also, the bar tender kind of ignored us, until we could get a seat at the bar, but the place isn’t setup like a typical bar so what can you expect. For this aspect I give it four stars, BUT when we were leaving they told us they will be doing a major renovation in the next month or so, so the place will be much bigger and bar area will be improved. Give this place a try the food is great, you won’t be let down.

Once every summer I like to have dinner in Oyster Bay, mostly as an excuse to drive through the back roads of Nassau«gold coast». This time, after reading some nice reviews on Unilocal,we selected Fiddleheads. The atmosphere was just right, nice but not stuffy. The open kitchen is a plus for me; I enjoy watching the staff operate what looks like a clean and well organized kitchen. Our server was friendly and attentive. The food was just right, really. For starters, husband had fresh Long Island Oysters; a big hit. I had the fig salad; light and fresh, with a slightly lemony dressing. We both ordered a shrimp dish, his with pasta, mine grilled over vegetable couscous. Both were excellent. Everything we saw coming out of the kitchen looked good. This is not a super fancy place(white sheets of paper serve as table cloths) but it is comfortable with good food and service, and I think good value for the price. For me, that’s what it’s all about.

This is one of the best meals my family and I have had in a long time. Service was good, presentations was awesome! You got to taste it to believe it… Meat was so tender you could cut it with a fork! This is a keeper!

American Seafood. This place has been a mainstay in Oyster Bay, a culinary desert, for quite some time now. The best way to classify it is as seafood with a spin. The dishes are all very creative and even though the place was sold a few years back, the style and substance remains the same as the original. In fact the new owner was the previous sous chef. The place is divided roughly in half with the bar and more casual side on the left and the main dining and kitchen on the right. They have live music on Thursday — Sunday(maybe more — not sure). The bar is on the small side but the bartenders are all decent. Parking in front.

If you’re a seafood fan, you’ll enjoy this restaurant. Lots of different fish varieties, however they don’t really offer too many options for the non-seafood eater. Make sure you know your dining company.
