This is one of those places with hit and miss dishes. I guess it would be sad if the dishes that were hits were the complimentary bread and complimentary desserts — given to us by our server to make up for the missed dishes that we pointed out to them. Fresh bread was awesome and tasty. Mussels appetizer were ok but had a couple raunchy ones had left queasiness in our mouths. We were wondering if they were fresh, properly selected and cleaned. Shrimp pasta was ho-hum and barely touched except for the shrimp. Steak with bone lacked flavor and was tough. My chicken pot pie was really salty and had to be returned. The«recooked» one that came back was almost just as salty. Didn’t want to bother them again so took it home to recook it my way. ;). Plus it was really liquidy. I think good chicken pot pie should have more thick thickness and be creamier. Grilled fish with rice was light and good. Banana dessert was pretty awesome. Berries and whipped cream — to much whipped cream and not enough berries. Our server was great and very attentive and offered to comp us some for the mussels and gave us free desserts.

The menu that we saw online was not the same menu that we were given when we arrived. We ordered the mussels and they were beyond their best and we had to send them back. Next we ordered burgers medium well and they all came rare. The fries were really greasy seemed that they were cooked in oil that was not hot enough and it just soaked in to the fries. We also ordered shrimp wraps and Crabcakes that were very bland and lacked in flavor. I gave two stars because the restaurant was clean and the staff were friendly. A little pricey and not worth the money at all would not recommend. Apart from us there was only one other table on a Saturday lunch.

A middling meal. My husband and I were there on a recent Tuesday night and at 6PM we were the only customers there. We both ordered steak. My husband ordered his medium rare and it came out cooked through. We didn’t send it back because we were in a hurry. Despite being the only people there, the service was kind of lackadaisical. Overall, an expensive meal for the experience. Wouldn’t be in any hurry to go back.

Cold fries. Dry chicken. Mussels in a sickeningly sweet«Thai» sauce. Long wait for appetizers. Disapointing when dessert is the best thing about a restaurant.

Ate lunch there yesterday for first time. Had lobster bisque soup — watery tobacco colored with occasional bits of something phlegmy & salty. Nothing to do with lobster as far as I could tell & certainly not a bisque. Main course was spinach ravioli with pieces of asparagus. Asparagus was stalky roughage that’s usually thrown away and ravioli came out lukewarm with some parts almost dry. Very disappointing. Won’t go back again & suggest you avoid it. There were only two tables served for lunch so it wasn’t as if they were being pressed. Whoever is running it has no clue and the kitchen staff should find another line of work.

Love Jack Halyards for its great bar scene, live music, and fresh delicious food served by a friendly staff After several visits in the past we stopped by Jack Halyards for dinner recently and found out it’s under new ownership. We were met at the door by one of the partners a radiant young lady with an infectious smile and sunny disposition(always a good start) It only got better: I was in the mood for a burger and Jack Halyards now serves burgers made from fresh chopped meat not frozen patties and it was cooked a perfect medium as ordered and accompanied by hand cut shoe string fries with the skin left on them. You can always judge a restaurant by how they prepare the simplest items and my burger was a triumph. My wife had the grilled swordfish with pineapple salsa and sautéed spinach which arrived cooked perfectly with no salt as requested. The pineapple salsa was so good my wife asked for extra. Since it was my wife’s birthday we split a piece of coconut cream cake for dessert which was fresh, moist and delicious and tall enough for 4 to share. There was also a singer playing acoustic guitar at the bar playing rock and roll covers at a volume that was enjoyable but not overwhelming. The service is friendly, upbeat and accommodating On our way out the new owners were very gracious and appreciative thanking us and shaking hands. Overall Jack Halyards is a great destination in Oyster Bay.

Tried the restaurant for an early bird dinner advertised on their website. When we sat down the waitress wouldn’t honor the deal. Food was just ok but not exceptional. Would have been better going to a diner and having a much larger menu

The food was delicious and there was plenty of it! However, we obviously ordered all at the same time but our meals(there was 3 of us) came out with ten minutes in between each dish so none of us ate at the same time. It was very strange considering the place was not full by any means. Good food, poor service.

Excellent service and tasty food. After we finished the lunch, we realized that we didn’t have bread and others all have it on their table. So I asked the waiter why we didn’t get it… He apologized and wrapped a fresh made bread and gave to me as «take out»… Lol… It seems not big deal, but for service like this… I will definitely recommend and come back again and again…

Over priced iceberg lettuce for $ 20 and overcooked mahi mahi that tasted like saw dust. Seaweed was also served as there so called«spinach and artichoke dip!» I’ve sucked ass that tasted better

Literally the worst meal I’ve ever eaten, and I rarely write negative reviews. The halibut arrived selling like it had sat on the counter the better part of the day; the meatloaf was literally stove top stuffing with a modicum of meat and shaped like a brick — and cooked to a dried mass. Whe we sent the food back, the cost was refunded, but no one came to speak to us or see why. As we left, the owner literally stared us down. Never again.

Great local place to meet up with friends and unwind. Great Martinis… Kevin makes one of the best Lemon Drop Martinis and it is made fresh with lemons and sugar… Enjoy !!

My husband and I love Jack Halyard’s. It’s a local spot, so close to home, and the food is delicious. I love being surprised by the specials(and always secretly hoping for the shrimp tempura tacos and/or the pork ossobucco with risotto– YUM!!). Definitely take advantage of the specials. Don’t hesitate or think I don’t know if I should… Just try it! Trust me. However, if you’re not feeling up to trying a special, the regular menu is also great. The farm stand flatbread is delicious, the salmon delectable, the burger is beyond tasty, and the chicken paillard is one of my faves. Knowing that it’s more than just what’s on the menu is all part of what makes Jack Halyard’s a great restaurant. It can get pricy, especially because it’s hard to resist getting a three course meal here, but it’s a warm, welcoming, down-to-earth spot that I highly recommend.

Tuesday’s are the best night here — they always have been. The staff does their best to make sure you have A more than average experience. Food is consistent in its rating.(Which has improved with new ownership) Music makes the evening — MIKE is excellent !

THEONLYPLACEINOYSTERBAYWITH A SUSHIBAR. Isn’t that all you need to know? lol The bartenders know how to make a nice stiff drink, maybe because of all those hottie sailors coming in from Oak Cliff nearby ;) Food is excellent(Chef John Brill is always on point with his seafood and new American fare), prices are reasonable and live music on Tues, Fri and Sat nights is always good with a mix of acts that keeps me moving. Love it guys! Keep doing what you do! Oh and Ladies night is Thursday! Brunch, BRUNCH, on Sunday 11 – 3.

If it were possible to rate Jack Halyards American Bar & Grill at zero stars, I would. I went to Oyster Bay Brewing Company with my boyfriend, cousin and her fiancé. Of course, after a few beers, we were on the prowl for something delicious to eat. Jack Halyards is conveniently located next door to OBBC, so we thought ‘why not’(even after reading through some skeptical reviews). I have a few issues with Jack Halyards, but I will start with the only one positive, our waitress. She was kind, sweet and endearing. Other than her presence, I have nothing good to say about this establishment. Issues: 1. OVERPRICED. Lunch for four came to a total of $ 147. This included one round of drinks, three burgers and a wrap. 2. One of the owners is a terrible human being. We witnessed him screaming at our waitress approximately four feet from our table. I can’t speak about the other owners(apparently there’s three in total) but this one owner commutes from NJ and maybe that’s why he was miserable, but I’m sorry, that’s not an excuse to treat your employees terribly. I was completely disgusted with his behavior, which he did not even try to hide from us as well as other customers. 3. My main issue– I split the bill with my cousin’s fiancé. The price we each signed for was $ 72 and change. We both had pending charges for days. Once my charge was fully processed, the amount jumped from $ 72 to the total of the bill, $ 175(while his change was still pending at $ 72). I called Jack Halyards to dispute the charge. I was appalled by the unprofessionalism I dealt with over the phone, but in the end they did rectify the problem. Although they were able to rectify the problem, it should have NEVER happened in the first place. All in all there were way too many issues with Jack Halyards. I was appalled, underwhelmed and overall disappointed. I would strongly encourage you to look for another establishment to dine at if you are in the Oyster Bay area.

Apparently there is a new owner & they wouldn’t honor the Unilocal free glass of wine offer. As a new owner they should honor it to keep customers coming back.

We have been there twice in two months and love the place. Funky atmosphere with great friendly service. The apos we have tried include; sushi, mussels pot, mac n cheese, and oysters… all were great. Last night’s mains included duck, crispy and cooked perfectly. Crispy Pork Shank. huge and delicious. Friends had Swordfish and Teddy Roosevelt Roll and enjoyed them. There was a guitarist in bar area making our experience most pleasant.

The mad Russian and I have been coming here about once a month for a while and I thought I’d update my review. We were looking for some live music the other night and not having found any that was starting for another hour, we showed up at Jack Halyards — We were seated straight away and Sean came immediately to take our drink order and explain a few things on the menu. Use your Unilocal«check-in» feature for a free glass of wine! We’ve always enjoyed the food when we’ve come and this time is no exception. Two new updates: If you like tuna tare tare, this has been updated to a «nacho type» platter. Wow was this great– chips guac and chunks of Tuna… So good The mussels pot was out of this world good… big chunks of Onions and Red plum tomatoes with plenty of garlic and dipping juices… my stomach just smiled thinking of them. Great food– Great service
