I went to Lappert’s on recommendation from a friend. We bought some donkey balls(chocolate candy) for later and shared a dole whip. It was giant and delicious! Very filling, definitely don’t need one on your own. The server was so kind and friendly. A definite post-dinner spot in Palm Springs! PS donkey balls make a great gift!

If you come to PS, you HAVE to try this spot! They have a delicious variety of fruit flavors, especially, some that you wouldn’t think of like guava(my childhood fave)! I got the sorbet, which had pineapple, guava & coconut. Those are like my three fave fruits BTW! Hubby got the pineapple float, which was also theeee bomb! Lots of not-so-ordinary flavors. Give em a try! Great for 100+ degree heat!

I’ve never written a Unilocal review before, but I feel compelled to write a review about this poorly run business. It’s 109 degrees today and my friends and I wanted to get an ice cream on our way out of town. We were greeted by two of the most unfriendly employees I’ve ever had the pleasure of encountering and I believe one of them was the owner. I asked for one of their specialty shakes that’s highlighted in their LARGEST menu on the wall only to have the woman working there tell me «yeah I don’t know how to make that, so you’ll have to ask him» motioning to the owner. While she made two of my friends frozen bananas, I asked the owner for my shake. His response was«that’s going to take me awhile» and to my friend says«what do you want?». I opted not to get the shake because they made me feel like I was inconveniencing them and I was essentially told«no» the two times I tried to order it. This business is literally called«ice cream and shakes» on their sign. I cannot emphasize enough that you should not go to this cramped, poorly run business where the employees seem to operate under the motto that«the customer is always wrong.» You will be made to feel like a burden by the ungracious, incompetent staff. UPDATE: the owner of this business wrote me back with a disappointingly confrontational email. He took no ownership of the way my order was declined and, instead, suggested I learn to read. That’s the spirit! Here’s my suggestion to you: stop hiding behind your keyboard and insulting the people who pay for your services and train your staff to make what’s on your menu instead.

This is a cute little ice cream shop that we stopped in to get out of the desert heat for a few minutes. And what better way to cool down than to have some ice cream. They have a lot of flavors there and I went with blueberry cheesecake. It was pretty good and I loved the blueberries in it. They have a shelf of «donkey balls» which is basically flavored chocolate wrapped around a macadamia nut. I got the salty balls and they were pretty good, just the right amount of salt. I’d probably go with another flavor for next time. They also had a nice little water station off to the side which was a lifesaver because I was so thirsty. I’ll be back to try out the other flavors.

The best ice cream place in Palm Springs downtown. The shop is pretty small, can barely hold 10 people. There are some unique flavors and soooo gooood. I never leave Palm Springs without a scoop of ice cream. The seats outside are good provided the sun is not on your face. I do have to talk about the Dole Whip float. It is dairy free, gluten free, less sugar and all the good stuff. The float is made with Dole pineapple juice and soft serve ice. I have a big sweet tooth and frankly the float is too sour for me. I know a lot of people just love the float but I would rather stick to ice creams.

Love, love, LOVE this place! We have been here many times and have not been disappointed. We usually get waffle cones and they never taste stale. They let you sample the flavors before committing to a purchase. So far: Dole Whip(big hit with us and our friends, must try the float!), Pistachio, Strawberry, Coconut Pineapple, Kahlua Truffle, Date Casablanca, Kauai Pie, Kona Coffee… The Pistachio and the Kauai Pie are our favorites. Ten bucks for two waffle cones with a big scoop each. So nice to sit at one of the outdoor tables on a warm evening while enjoying a treat.

This is a small, no-frills, quaint place, and the best part is they serve Dole Whip just like in Disneyland and in the Dole Plantation.

The ice cream was just ok. But the cookies were dry like they had been there for weeks. I mean these things would float in a tub of dog spit for ever. Honestly if you’re drunk and want ice cream this place will work. But if you want really good ice cream keep looking…

when I was looking for palm springs on my GPS and saw lappert’s ice cream on the map, I was so excited! I had learned to love lappert’s in hawaii and never expected to find them in palm springs. then when I walked into the store, I was overjoyed to find all my hawaiian favourites, like kauai pie ice cream(chocolate, coffee, coconut & macadamia nuts) and surprise bonus… dole whip with pineapple! it was impossible to choose between them, so I’m going to have to come back again tomorrow :)

A little bit of Kauai in the desert. We stopped here because right in front of the store there was an open parking space and after a couple turns of the wheel I managed to fit the car. Hey this is Palm Springs where parking by the curb is a miracle. So my lovely wife has to have her Dole Whip. I didn’t order because I had my Date Shake at Hadley’s, and another cone of any ice cream was not going to happen, no matter how warm the sunshine is. Yup, given the same circumstances I would definitely come back for a Lappert Icecream next time.

Well folks, I previously gave this place one star because my son accidentally dropped his $ 6.50 Dole Whip Float and I was flippantly told«sure I’ll replace it… for $ 6.50.» Now, don’t get me wrong, no ice cream shop is obligated to give a kid a new ice cream when he screws up and drops it on the ground. But hey, it’s a kid, and sure I’ve had this happen once or twice before(which apparently means I’m not«a man,» but more on that later), but other shops have always given a big smile and a new ice cream for the kiddo. I mean, hey, you’re in the smile business right? Stuff happens, and you want your customers to be happy, and say nice things about your shop. Even if their kid should have been more careful. So again, yeah, it’s on me(and my kid) and not the shop’s fault the float ended up melting on the sidewalk. I was pretty surprised at the answer(and the attitude), but I didn’t argue or stoop to the level of rudeness. I just walked out the door and posted an appropriate review to tell my story. Behold! The power of social media. Now, I hope you find the following message as funny as I did. Word for word, here is the Unilocal message I got from someone named«Adam P.» I assume he is the shop owner. And now if I had any curiosity about why the clerk would give me such negative attitude, well, let’s just say it’s no longer a mystery. Read it for yourself, and you be the judge! Adam P’s message to me: First of all I have sold Thousands of floats and there all the same size!!.if your boy kock it over it was because you didnt pay attention to him, I was told you put it on because you work with another store, But your review is so stupid that no one would believe it… try to pay attention to your kid next time, blame it on yourself and be a man!!. (In Adam P’s defense, I’m pretty sure he meant«knock it over» and not«kock it over,» but I can’t be sure. And I kept waiting for his«second of all,» but alas, it never came. Oh, and finally, for the record, I do not work for a competing ice cream shop, but I did enjoy the«single bullet theory» conspiracy accusation. Thanks, Adam P! You’re a peach!) Like I said, the ice cream was good. So, if you like your float or cone served up with a heaping spoonful of derision and snark, this is the place for you!

On a very sunny and hot afternoon in Palm Springs, my friend and I were craving a cool treat. We were attracted into the store by the dole whip sign outside, as dole whip is a rare find! Sadly, the moment we walked into the store, we were told that all power was out on the block and that the dole whip machine was broken. However, we were still able to order ice cream scoops, and I’m sure glad we did! I had the guava sorbet and still think about it to this day. I’m a huge fan of guava flavored items, and it’s often hard to find quality guava products. This particular sorbet was not too sweet and had genuine guava flavor. I can’t wait to come back and try the dole whip next time!

There is a difference between run of the mill snow cones and real deal shaved ice. Before walking in to Lappert’s, I’ve only seen real deal shaved ice in two places– Baltimore and Hawaii. Now I can add a third place to that list. Shaved ice is ground razor thin, almost like a powder, with none of the gravel sized lumps you find in a snow cone. I watched the guy as he made my shaved ice. He went into a freezer and pulled out a disk of solid ice, and placed it inside a machine with a plastic housing, a grinding wheel, and a foot pedal to regulate things. Something began to spin, and in a few seconds there was a big fluffy mound of powder-like shaved ice. Add some coconut syrup and in a few seconds I was enjoying an awesome frozen treat. Lappert’s sells all kinds of ice cream and Dole Whip — a pineapple juice whipped up into a frozen froth. Lots of the ice cream flavors are Hawaiian themed, and he also sells chocolate covered bananas and cheesecake slices for those feeling especially decadent. Of course, the sign in front of the store advertising«Donkey Balls»(some sort of chocolate-macadamia nut deal) brings in a lot of curious customers. Lappert’s was a fun stop for us as we meandered up and down North Palm Canyon Drive.

I have gone completely out of my way twice to stop by Lappert’s and have a Dole whip float. There is a tradition that is quickly gathering speed that when returning from out of state on the 10, take a slight left and grab a Dole whip float at this place. This place is pretty cool and located right on the main strip in Palm Springs. On a recent vacation I stopped by twice just for the Dole whip. They have all sorts of ice cream, and even«schweddy donkey balls» if you want some chocolate. I suggest you eat them quickly if you plan on walking outside in the middle of summer. This is a great little place and a place you need to stop by and check out if you’re near Palm Springs

2 Things worth noting, and then that is all. 1. Hot day in Palm Springs and you need something refreshing? Dole Whip Ice cream. All day. Everyday. Just do it. 2. Tip the super friendly and really nice man that owns the place. He deserves it. His customer service is on par.

Lappert’s is a total dream! Known for making island flavors, it’s always difficult to make a choice. I love that they offer ice cream flavors on one side and sorbet flavors on the other side. Creamy & icy. Feel free to ask for a tasting. They got: FAMOUS Kauai Pie Kona Mocha Chip Kona coffee macadamia nut vanilla bean white chocolate macadamia nut, Mango madness guava coconut pinapple Banana fudge …and so so many more!!! Another major plus is that they offer Dole Whip as seen is Disneyland. Yes, the hype us real. On hot Palm Springs days(everyday), a cold refreshing pineapple drink with ice cream is exactly what the doctor ordered.

Yayyyy, finally a spot that’s not Disneyland or the Dole Plantation in Hawaii to get Dole Whip! Refreshing, pineapple-y goodness! All their other ice cream flavours and drink creations were delicious as well. Lots of tropical flavours. Friendly, helpful staff. Stop here on a hot day in Palm Springs! Really hits the spot!
