Amazing wine. Way expensive but perfect for a special event. Not your everyday drinking wine unless you make over $ 500k, but you’ll wish it was.

Cold, without personality in both staff and ambience. Expensive tasting, mediocre wines offered for tasting. Wine tasting should be fun and inviting not sterile. There are many to chose from in this region, pass on Sextant.

The reviews of this place are hit and miss for a good reason. Came here in the pouring rain on a girls weekend in March. It wasn’t late and it wasn’t busy, but it still took a fair while for one of the people behind the counter to acknowledge us. We ended up with a blonde lady probably in her 50’s who took as long as possible between pours. The wine was ok. The blend was nice and so was one of the others. Couldn’t help but think tho that they were quite expensive compared to neighboring wineries who served comparably better wine? Their policy is that you have to buy two bottles of wine in order to waive the tasting fee, so either you buy two or none as it doesn’t seem worth the money to have them add $ 10 to an already expensive bottle of wine. Probably won’t come back on our next trip down.

If you are taking yourself on a wine tour up and down highway 46, skip this venue. While Sextant has an attractive tasting room, it really doesn’t feel welcoming to tasters unless they are members or prospective members. I have a distinct feeling that this venue/tasting room was created to draw big spenders/winery membership seekers since there is a secondary Sextant location in Edna Valley that has a totally different vibe. Because of this, my party(consisting of me, my boyfriend, and his aunt) felt out of place and almost unwelcome. We were ignored by the tasting room attendants(there were two) for several minutes despite the fact that their was only one couple at the bar. We didn’t even get a glance upon entering. When the male attendant came to help us, he poured our first tasting, gave us some information, and then left us for ten minutes. This continued until halfway through the tasting when he stopped giving us information about the wine entirely. After another, larger party came in(which included wine club members) he abandoned us and went to help them. He was charming, helpful, and charismatic with them, totally unlike how he acted with us. His fellow attendant finished off our tasting, became distracted with another client, and only came back after several meaningful glances from me so that we could pay and leave. I don’t know if the negative vibe/bad service effected my tasting, but I(and my group) found the wines to be incredibly lackluster except for the Kamal Cabernet Sauvignon, which I bought.

Love the wines at Sextant and Amy. She remembers us every time we come in and is so gracious! Our favorite wines here are the Wheelhouse Zin and the Kamal. We drive five hours to get this wine! We have also eaten lunch there from their deli and it us VERY good. Nice friendly people, good food, and great wine. That’s definitely worth the drive!

Stopped here today on recommendation. The tasting room was not that busy but our server was not attentive. I did the wine and chocolate pairing. The chocolate was better than the wines!

I hate how you can’t give a half start rating on Unilocal.Sextant would get 3.5 from me, but I can’t justify 4. Originally my wife and I visited and were knocked off or feet by customer service. We came in around 4:15, which is probably the worst time to start a tasting. Instead of the normal exasperation one may get from a tired employee, we were lead through the lineup by a cheery attendee. She did mention she worked at the welcome center for Paso, it showed. Because of this, we were impressed enough to visit again with the in-laws. Boy, did that ever come back to bite me in the rear… Over the course of a week the entire feel had changed. We came in around noon; early enough for the room to be fresh, but not groggy. This occurrence went sour quickly as the pourer showed a general disinterest in my family. It’s not enough for me to rant on, but I can say that my entire perspective changed with the attitude of the pourer. She may have been having a bad day, by ensured that ours was as well. As for the wine, I would describe it as average. It was actually on the thin side, but that is up for debate amongst pallets. The one positive on the list is the Chardonnay. Kid you not, tasted like popcorn. That’s pretty neat, but not enough butter to cover the drastic fluctuation of customer service.

This winery came highly recommended… A lot of money has been put into their tasting room and club members room. It has a bit of a corporate feel for my wife and I. Coming from a couple who can appreciate a $ 300 bottle to a $ 15 bottle, we felt the wines were mediocre for the price point. We purchased a unique blend, Caledoc, for $ 38 to wipe off the tasting fee… except we were still charged a $ 10 tasting fee. We aren’t certain if that’s policy, or just a pourer banking a few extra books. No value in the bottle, scenery wasn’t for us, $ 10 tasting fee on the way out the door, we will pass this stop on our next trip.

To start: the staff was great, attentive, and efficient… if not the most knowledgeable I’ve had at other wineries. Two of the staff members were trying to remember if they’d been there for 6 or 7 months… this does not give you confidence that you are dealing with knowledgeable staff, but they were very nice and friendly. Of the wines we had(about 7, I think, between the normal tasting and the reserve add-on tasting): two were outstanding(Caladoc and Cab Sav), one was undrinkable(Syrah…and I typically love Syrah), and the rest were okay. The biggest problem I had was that I was seriously interested in buying a single bottle of each of the 2 we thought were outstanding. However, they require a 3 bottle minimum purchase PERPERSON in order to waive the tasting fee of $ 15 each($ 10 + $ 5 reserve tasting). I live in Sonoma County, so I’m very familiar with the normal practice of waiving tasting room fees when you buy wine. Most wineries waive the fee with a single bottle purchase per person. Why in the world would I spend approximately $ 75 – 100 just to waive a $ 15 fee? There is absolutely zero incentive to buy. If I had bought both wines($ 36 and $ 25, each), it would have cost me $ 91+tax for $ 61 worth of wine because I still had to pay the tasting fees. This is stupid. I completely understand, and agree with, a tasting fee if no wine is purchased. However, they gave me no incentive to buy because I wasn’t going to buy $ 200 worth of wine just to save $ 30 in tasting fees. Want to sell more wine? Change your structure to a tasting fee waived per bottle of wine. I would have bought at least 2 bottles today, if that had been the case, AND I would have returned to your winery with friends and probably bought more wine. Instead, I didn’t buy anything because it doesn’t make financial sense on my side to do so, and I’ll probably never return unless the tasting fee/purchase structure changes. I’ll just enjoy the Justin and Hammersky that I bought earlier today, who did waive the fee per bottle purchase.

I can’t say enough amazing things about Sextant! My wife and I were first introduced to them at their SLO tasting room by Tony(the ex fireman) who was awesome. He was very informative with the tasting notes and got us to become members of the First Mate wine Club. Such an fabulous idea that was! We tried the Genoa and it’s our most favorite red wine blend ever! It’s perfect. Recently, we were able to do a VIP tasting in Paso Robles. The tasting room there is quite different than SLO but the folks are just as welcoming. If you like wine, you should absolutely try Sextant’s wines. You will not be disappointed.

The wines weren’t that great. The service was mediocre and they didn’t seem to really know very much about the wines.

The five stars is first and foremost for the outstanding service we got from our server, Kate. She knew the wines well and was very friendly. She also helped me pick out a very cool silver Bear pourer and they have cool Sexy Sexant t-shirts! I did love the wine too, especially the Caladoc, which is a unique blend that you can only get here, the Wheelhouse Zin, and the Grenache Blanc. Thank you Kate for being so helpful and fun.

What a great experience today. Even though it was packed due to Harvest weekend, our tasting server Paul was totally attentive and informative. He turned us on to their Kamal wine. Oh my gosh! It’s divine! I will definitely be returning.

So this review is for my visit this past Sunday 9÷6÷15. I am a wine member here and there was a members only event that day but I was turned down and told they can not accomodate my party even though I am a member there and was in Paso Robles celebrating me getting married next month with my girlfriends. Service was horrible and the girl that I talked to seemed annoyed. I feel like there is so many wineries in Paso that have great wines with fabulous customer service and this place is not one on my list anymore. Needless to say, I will be canceling my wine club membership and will not be coming back her on my next visit to Paso!

OK! We just left Sextant and had to say… Conor has made it! What an entertaining and educational visit. This is our favorite place to be in Paso along with Justin. But Justin needs a tasting rep like Conor. So much fun! Come to both winery’s and have a blast!

First off I want to say that this winery is adorable, cute, and has a great staff. The wine does taste good which was why I became a wine club member… The reason why I’m writing this review was how I got mislead into What I was going to get… They don’t tell you how many bottles you get with each order but they promise you it’s under $ 160, stupid me thinking that it might be a six case box delivery, maybe even 12… «I can wish, right?» My first delivery ended up being two bottles for $ 146. Wow! I was super surprised I really wish someone would’ve gave me the heads up before I became a member that this was what I was signing up for. I very much so enjoy all my wine club memberships with other wineries where I don’t feel like I’m getting ripped off. My other memberships always email me or text me before an order is even placed so if I have a friend to pick it up or I can it’s there. When I called to tell sextant I had someone picking up the wine they already mailed it. My last thing I want to say, because I feel like I got cornered intothere high-priced membership club wine I wanted to cancel because I wasn’t happy which resolved in a $ 50 fee. I’m a chef by profession so I can buy great wine at wholesale price but I like to support wineries. But I truly felt like I got scammed. By all means come taste their wine but really second look at the club membership.

A nice, intimate tasting room with a great staff! Connor handled our tasting. Friendly, knowledgable, but didn’t make me feel like I was an idiot because I wasn’t an expert in wine. Everyone working in the tasting area was so personable. The wine was great and by far my favorite set of tastings for the entire day. Even types of wines I typically don’t care for, shocked me. I hate Zins for the most part and I came home with a bottle of it. If it wasn’t our first stop of the day, I would have gone home with a whole lot more. I will definitely be back.
