I’ve been coming here for about eight years and not much has changed, this is a good thing. Howards is not fine dining — You come here for a solid burger, salad, and waffle fries. I’ve had friends go and tell me that they weren’t impressed because they didn’t have xyz on the menu… its not that kind of place. This is a great neighborhood restaurant. It’s not trying to be anything and it’s got nothing to prove. I love coming here because you know what you are getting the second you walk in the door — solid burgers, great fries, good drinks, and a friendly crowd

Having been here a few more times since the original review in 2011, I must say that I did over-estimate this place. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice little place but just not up to a 4 star review. I still recommend it as a place to check out for the locals or if you are in the area, but I don’t think it’s worth going out of one’s way for.

Howard’s Café I remember being on the cheaper side… The prices has sky rocketed I feel. The Burgers here are $ 16 The Entrees are about $ 18 However with the dinners you get, it comes with a free bowl of salad and a tiny pitcher of beer or soda. Yeah, I suppose that’s pretty cool. However someone like me who has work in a few hours can’t take advantage of that tiny pitcher of beer. The burgers was O.K. Sadly the waffle fries were better. I’m not sure, I feel at prime dinner time(6pm) this place should be more filled. I would have given this place a higher rating but I’m still stuck on the price of a burger, it’s really just upsetting and also the fact I am honestly here sitting in a bench seat which is practically a piece of plywood, no cushion… Unless the prices drop. I don’t expect to be going back, I don’t think it’s really worth it.

I have been coming here for probably about 20 years and one thing i can say is it is always consistently great. The fare is solid stick to your ribs bar food with some great specials. I usually get the burger and its always cooked perfectly by a friendly and attentive server. It’s truly a locals regulars dominated place because once you go her you find yourself coming back. I moved out of the area years ago but still meet friends here for dinner or hit it after a round of golf often.

Howard, you’ve let me down; I don’t know who hyped this place up so much but, a miniature burger at 13 bux served up less than curtiously isn’t my idea of a good meal. I have heard many comments on how great these burgers are… And I wondered how a place gets to be so amped up, or how a person believes such a falicy. It wasn’t bad, just not worth extra scratch. That is until you realize, you’re getting a tiny little side salad. That makes up for everything… Okay no, but what is redeeming is that’ll come with pitchers of beer(not great beer, but beer) One of those dark hometown spots that they don’t want the outsiders to like, and for that reason, they earn redemption.

It’s been almost a year since I visited, mostly because I moved out of state, but a recent trip to see mom created a prime opportunity to visit Howard’s! The food was better than I remembered. I had the Something Special with waffle fries – there is much to be said for the waffle fries here – crisp but with the right amount of chew – just like a Long Island bagel. Mom had the lobster roll and was not let down. Two hot dog bun sized rolls came out STUFFED with lobster salad. Mom was impressed and noted that they probably don’t make much off the rolls(she would be perfect for that old TV show Supermarket Sweep). Finally, my friend had the reuben, which was huge. Seriously, if you order this you should be prepared to unhinge your jaw because this sandwich is HUGE. I was lucky enough to have a bite and it was pretty tasty! Finally, I wanted to mention that we overheard our waitress calling the owner«dad” – great to know this is a family owned and operated place!

For what you get you can’t beat the price, meal, salad, pitcher of beer or carafe of wine, and the food is «like mom used to make» dinner specials, sandwiches and burgers. The only negative I have is they REALLY need a décor update and some padding on the booth benches. Definately a keeper for our lunch and dinner outings!

When we pulled into the shopping center, I assumed it was going to be a dive bar. I was pleasantly surprised! Because it was Memorial Day there weren’t too many people in there so we got our pick of where we could sit. We chose a booth in the center of the restaurant part. The décor is normal pub style décor, with sports memorabilia. The staff was courteous and accommodating. We decided on the gourmet burgers, which come with a salad, a carafe of beer, wine or sangria and different types of fries. The burgers were cooked to perfection. So delicious!!! I definitely think we will make this a regular spot.

The first time I came here I really wasn’t that impressed. I’ve since come a handful of times and haven’t been let down since. Everything deserves a second chance! This is a really no-frills bar/restaurant that serves up burgers as their specialty. If you’re not into a burger, you can sub it out for grilled chicken, chicken cutlet, veggie burder, or a turkey burger too(I think). Each burger will run you about $ 12 but before you go crazy… each burger comes with salad, a side(get the waffle fries and thank me later), and unlimited pitchers of beer, wine, or sangria(get this and thank me later as well). This could get slightly dangerous as they keep serving you alcohol as long as you’re eating… and if you have friends like mine, this could become more of a drink-off than dinner. This place is definitely worth a try if you haven’t been before.

This place feels kinda like you’re stuck in a time machine set to 1996. Bottom line here though is that the food is actually decent, and very cheap. Typical bar type food– burgers and the like, and bomb-a$$ waffle fries. Also, as long as you’re eating, you’re served sangria or beer(just bud or bud light I believe), at no additional cost. I took this as a personal challenge. Sangria– 1KWOOD –0

I have come here way too many times to remember. Howard’s Café is a restaurant that does inexpensive dining and drinks the right way. Howard’s Café has an ambiance, culture, and style of restaurant that is reminiscent of simpler days gone by on Long Island that is hard to find anywhere else. The place reminds me of a 1990’s restaurant and bar. The staff is among the friendliest and most mature for sure. You will NOT find a snobby teenager or haughty young know it all serving your food. The staff here has a genuine kindness and helpful attitude. The salad here is probably one of the best I have ever had. Each salad comes with three styles of dressings which are all delicious: Italian, Blue Cheese and French… sooooo good! The lettuce is fresh and crunchy. There are SO many different styles of burgers to choose from, all of which are delicious and flavorful. My favorite meal to get here is the salad, a burger(with a side of fries) and it comes with pitchers of beer or sangria or wine, you get ALL of this for just over 10 dollars. I’ve always enjoyed my meals here and the prices are incredibly fair and wallet friendly! Really cool little place!

I haven’t been dissatisfied ever when I went here. The food is great and I love the pickles… there is something about this place that makes me feel nostalgic. The pitchers of beer are a real treat and the waffle fries are killer! Can’t wait for another visit. Only 4 stars because it could use a little renovation to compete with other restaurant’s that compare.

This place is awesome for drinking. Let me start by saying unlimited sangria, wine or beer. With that said after being here a few times it’s like what do you order other then burgers but becoming friendly with the waitresses we found out you can change any burger into grilled chicken, chicken cutlet or veggie burger. This is a totally redeeming factor because all you can drink and their assortment of burgers and possibly chicken or veggie burger you can totally switch it up without tasting the same thing over and over. P. s if your thinking appetizers defiantly the baked clams or the spinach artichoke are awesome.

Love this place. Where else can you go for a huge burger and waffle fries, a huge salad for the table with a carrousel of toppings and dressings and a craft pitcher of beer wine or sangria for just over 10 bucks !! Love the food and the atmosphere.

For what this place is it gets 3STARS. It has very friendly staff and service is great. Burgers are good. Deals are great. I don’t eat at places like this often and it’s unique for sure, so I can’t really compare to anything else. Great for guys to chill and eat inexpensive meal. However not a lot of room at the bar so if you wanted to watch a game get there early.
