Where did they go? Is this place closed for good? I will miss it if so — consistently reliable breakfast, cordial service, hard-working family owners always present, and the faint smell of the place is from the auto body shop next door… someone tell me what is happening with the café!(May 22. 2012)

This review is based on past visits; tried to stop in the other day and it was closed during usual operating hours. No sign about being closed and from look of windows wondered if they are closed permanently.(Anyone have an update?) Overall good breakfast food and a large variety of items. Hash browns are great(regular or crispy). Have tried a few lunch items and they were average to better than average, but nothing amazing. Generous portion of fried seafood(was it fish n chips or calamari…) for my friend. Sandwich option seemed skimpy as it was served — smallish in size and no sides included. Staff should work on up-selling. Not a huge fan of the bottled drinks, but understand this may be easier to manage for a small place. Most of staff has been great. The gals who(I’m guessing) own it and the one gal’s mom are attentive and/or prompt. The brunette waitress is less attentive and has forgotten parts of our order on more than one visit. The thought of having her as our server has given me pause about choosing Classic Café again.

Ooh! I like this place! I’m super excited about this because it’s about a mile away from my apartment! The service is great, quick, friendly staff. The food is diner food but very delicious. Everything came out in a timely manner and everything tasted fresh and yummy. They serve breakfast all day until they close which is around 3pm I believe.

Not impressed. Veggie omelet meal was bland and squishy. The waitress forgot about my meal and even admitted to it right when delivering my friends meal. Not even worth the 10 minute drive.

After a wait that seemed longer than it should have been, we received our food and it was delicious. BBQ chicken omelet– mmm!

YUM! When I lived closer to the area I would frequent this place for breakfast. Always a yummy meal and good service.

A solid breakfast-and-lunch diner. Not sure if they do a good weekend brunch thing or not, and I don’t think they’re open for dinner. Most of their business seems to be with folks who live or work nearby, and they’ve made an effort to offer some healthier options to attract patrons of the Gold’s Gym next door. The Classic Café is definitely a dependable place to get a decent breakfast or lunch(I work nearby and order from Classic several times a week), but probably not a destination in and of itself.

All though there was a chemical cleaner smell that was a little discerning… the breakfast with grilled English muffin, shredded potatoes and eggs was one of the best breakfasts I have ever had! It’s a greasy spoon but wow was it good!

This place is way WAY over rated. To start, this place really does smell like dish soap. The food was decent at best. Would never go back.

I would say the breakfast was okay, not great. The restaurant smelled like cleaning products, which is never appealing to me. We ordered a side order of the harvest pancakes and they had a nice flavor but were over cooked. Breakfast is easy… don’t over cook it and don’t spray cleaning products when people are eating.

Decided it was time to broaden our Providence-area dining, so I consulted the almighty Unilocal for something in Pawtucket, but not too far from our hotel(Marriott, Providence D-town, on Orms). The Classic Café sounded like our kind of place; ample menu, reasonable prices(not in Providence), and breakfast w/out the trendiness trappings and hipster fetish common at downtown eateries for breakfast. This Pawtucket eatery was the perfect choice. Just 2 miles from our hotel, the menu was extensive. I had an amazing pastrami omelet, toppedt w/Dijon hollandaise sauce. My wife opted for the French toast, topped w/custard and fresh fruit, which she raved about, topped w/sugar-encrusted pecans – the«best French toast I ever had!» Once again, we had our son with us(starving post-college student) and he went with the batter-dipped egg sandwich, which had ham and cheese. I ordered a side of corned beef hash(which other reviewers recommended) and it was awesome, as the three of us polished it off. Service was awesome, coffee refilled regularly and water offered. Definitely worth leaving Providence proper for.

Classic Café had good food, great coffee, friendly and fast service. My husband gets corn beef hash wherever they have it on the menu. He said that theres was soo good and not greasy. I had the Belgium waffles which were divine! We will definitely be back!

Classic Café is a really great choice for a diner in Rhode Island. I went there for brunch yesterday and everything came out really great. The prices are really reasonable and there is a lot of options. I decided to go with the waffles with sugared walnuts and baked apples. It was perfectly crispy and the apples were really flavorful. This is a great option if you want to go out for brunch but are on a budget!

I want to give it a 3, but i feel because I’m a crankersaurus in the morning is no reason to deduct points. Perfect cure for a hangover! Really good breakfast options, at good prices. Didn’t have to wait long for a table, however food did take a little while coming out of the kitchen, but with a small staff that is to be expected. Waffles were delightful, with lots of toppings to choose from. Eggs were done right, and the shredded potatoey things were heaven! Bacon wasn’t quite as crispy as i like, but whatev! My biggest complaint is that breakfast occurs at such an early hour and i was coaxed outta the house, into the cold prior to noon. But i begrudgingly concede that Classic Café isn’t to blame

It’s not pretty, but the service is great and so is the food. Their custard french toast is NOJOKE. It’s six pieces of french toast covered in vanilla custard, strawberries, blueberries, kiwis and candied almonds or pecans. I posted a picture, so just take a look at the monstrosity of it. Their breakfast sandwiches are also great. Big fan of the bacon egg & cheese if it’s a to-go type of situation and I can’t sit down for some french toast. The food is cheap, our waitress was super nice, the place was clean(though very outdated) and they’re probably the only diner in Pawtucket that actually accept credit cards, so kudos to all that. Oh and they also have cream cheese stuffed toast and outdoor seating. Get on that.

Broad menu, good food, good prices, pleasant and efficient service — what else could I want? Oh yeah… my favorite breakfast drink of diet mt dew — check! We stumbled upon ths clean, tidy diner while looking for a healthy breakfast option on the road. The menu is huge and the food is well prepared. They’re accommodating of special requests and have heart healthy options. I’d trade several of my local DC spots for this one stop! Definitely going back on this trip!

I’ve only had breakfast so far, but lemme tell ya their breakfasts are yummy and selections are many. I had the stuffed apple pecan french toast my 1st visit– oh the fresh apple cinnamony pecan yummy goodness… with sweet potato home fries! sigh… now i’m hungry lol

Marlena has it right — after reading her review my husband and I thought we would stop in. We had driven past Modern Café and read their reviews(we kept driving) and found Classic. The wait staff was very nice, the place is clean and the food was just fine. We plan to go back with our daughter as we are certain she would love the french toast.

Great food and staff with a great price. At breakfast I love their waffles and egg sandwiches. They have tons of daily specials and many healthy options.
