Sassiest man alive works here. I just placed an order for take out while at the restaurant. The man who took my order could not have been more rude. He made it seem like was a lot of work to take my order for 4 sushi rolls. He actually refused to say thank you to me. The food is good. I’ve been here a lot but I won’t be back.

I am a huge fan of this place not for their Sushi but their Curry Chicken Fried Rice. It is very tasty and their portion is also huge. I have also had their Bento box at times and can’t complain. Overall a nice little place to stop by for food!

Unimpressed with our sushi meal at Sumo. Rolls are way too big, rice is soft and doesn’t stay together. Sushi and sashimi pieces are too big and look like they were cut with a nail file rather than a knife. I would not go back to Sumo for sushi.

these stars are for their horrible delivery service — it took nearly two hours delivery. their food is decent, no real complaints no commendations either.

One star is generous. An Asian friend and I went to dinner there last Friday at 9:15 pm. In retrospect, the staff was not happy to see us. I believe they all wanted to close up the kitchen and go home early. This, even though the stated business hours are until 10PM. I ordered red curry tofu and my friend ordered pad Thai. Both dishes were terrible. My friends pad Thai had the wrong noodles. Not the thin noodles but rather the chow fun type noodles. That wasn’t even the worst of it. Very unpleasant tasting. My red curry was very disappointing as well. When we tried to discuss this with the manager, we were told they were not prepared to do anything for us because they wanted to go home. Wow. Is this America? I couldn’t believe it. 40 bucks for a totally inferior meal. Absolutely deplorable customer service. Which is to say, no customer service. Price is high. I will not be spending another dime in that place

I personally love(love love) their teriyaki tuna, to the extent that one day I just drove forty minutes to get some, such was my craving. something about it is just pretty special otherwise, their food is pretty standard for westernized sushi rolls with the iterations of sweet sauce poured over interesting sushi rolls. is it bad? not really. just don’t come expecting too much japan, and expectations will be closer to reality. great for a lunch internship

Underrated sushi in the area… unfortunately the menu is too diverse and hides the best items. Fan of their spicy rolls, creamy coconut curry katsu and chicken katsu juu(w egg n onion over rice). Good eel sushi. Had good duck items as well. The low point for me were their soups. If you run across the daily specials, check out totoro roll which is an amazing value for blue fin toro.

I love this place; Best sushi in the area! Although it can be a little pricy, the sushi is good and it is a byob so you can enjoy dinner with a glass of wine. My favorite roll is the Yumi Yumi roll!

Really enjoy the food here. The sushi is very fresh & all of the rolls I’ve tried are delicious. The only thing that keeps this from being a 5 star is that there isn’t a roll special on the lunch menu. On the other hand it keeps me from being stagnant in my orders. Try this place — you won’t regret it!

Stopped here for lunch with a friend I hadn’t seen for ~15 years. Apparently this really IS supposed to be a Sushi /Japanese restaurant. I had gotten the impression that it was more of a Chinese pan-Asian place, kind of a cover all bases for maximum profit sort of thing. Anyhow, I was advised that the sushi was okay, so little Ms. Fussy Pants went ahead and ordered a sushi /sashimi lunch, all expectations on the side. I can overlook the fish being ice cold. I can also overlook the fact that it was almost all sake and maguro. I REALLY liked the use of thinly sliced asian pear in lieu of the usual green plastic leaf as a separator. However, I can’t overlook the rice being under-seasoned and falling apart, nor the fish not being fully sliced and still attached, Siamese twin-like to its brother, and least of all the first piece of tuna that tasted like the supermarket fish counter smells. Ah well, at least I didn’t come to the table with any expectations. This is the first time I’ve ever experienced an Asian restaurant serving hot water and a(green) tea bag in response to a request for o-cha. And I thought I was becoming jaded. Misoshiru was pretty damn good, and undecidedly UN-Japanese in it’s abundance of tofu and nori. Balance be damned! Sumo aside, lunch was great. I REALLY enjoyed seeing my friend and should probably make a point of doing such things much more often.

Great potential. However; don’t sit at a booth. Distance front seat to table is too far. Our roll fell apart while eating– kind of ruins it. Pure shoddy sushi making. Thai basil curry was SUPER salty. Rice was good, but that’s not much of an accomplishment. Dinner with mom so dinner wasn’t ruined. Won’t be back soon.

Sumo is really good, don’t believe the negative reviews from uppity/picky people in here. Hard to give them 5 stars, but they are a really, really solid restaurant. Our family eats here all the time and we love it. The sushi is always fresh and fantastic. They make a really good red curry too, and the veggie lo-mein is as good as you will find at any asian restaurant. My kids love the pineapple rice too. Ignore the few negative reviews and give them a try, I doubt you’ll be dissapointed. BYOB…

It can be a little pricey to feed the whole family here for dinner, but it is a perfect place to go for lunch. Their rolls are very good; the dancing dragon is my new favorite. During the lunch hour, it can get pretty crowded, so I recommend going around 11:30 or ordering take-out.

This is my favorite sushi spot. The owner is usually behind the sushi bar when we visit and he genuinely cares about the quality of food and customer service. We usually order the sushi sashimi for two or we let the chef decide what to make us– A few times I have ordered off of the cooked food menu and the portions were huge and very tasty. Everything is always very fresh! I have never had a bad meal here. The wait staff is attentive and quick. I never have to ask for refills. BYOB, Ice buckets provided for beer and wine.

The lunch Maki special is a great deal and the waitress allowed us to have the tuna spicy. Overall, the quality is OK. The rice was a bit mushy and Tuna was a bit sloppy. I would recommend this place for lunch but probably not for dinner.

As a kid, I always thought that by now, I’d be an astronaut exploring our solar system and possibly beyond, stretching the limits of human exploration in search of answers to the deepest and most fundamental questions in the universe. Instead, I somehow ended up sitting at a BYOB restaurant in Central Jersey that’s reminiscent of a Japanese bath house. Not that I’m an expert on Japanese bath houses but I imagine that it’s something like this. And for Central Jersey, it would be a really nice bath house. If there’s a lesson in all this, say no to drugs and stay in school kids. Although it’s a Japanese restaurant the portions are decidedly American. I consider myself a pretty good eater and I still couldn’t finish my lunch special. The biggest disappointment is that it’s BYOB yet there isn’t a liquor store near by to buy that B. So if coming here for the BYOB make sure to plan ahead and get the the B before heading here. Cuz if you don’t you’ll just end up with a big W and what fun is that? Anyway, the food is pretty good and service needs an upgrade. But for the area, 4 stars all the way.

The food at Sumo Sushi is as good as the service is bad. The service is abysmal – surly, lazy and slow – if that gives you an idea of the quality of the food. I’ve been here a couple times – once with friends, once with family. Cute place but not sure if it’s worth it.

We went to Sumo Sushi for the first time last night. Service was good to very good — admittedly we practically opened up the restaurant. The portions were large and we enjoyed what we ate which did not actually include sushi this time. We’ll go back.

Had a work dinner here recently and enjoyed it, but only because I wasn’t paying. Bad variety and prices for the sushi dinners(soup/salad, sushi, roll): $ 25 and up. Few of the rolls are less than $ 12. Everything we had was very, very good, though. The booths are really uncomfortable: the table is too far away, the seats are solid wood, and the benches are too long for two people but too short for three people, so the spacing is weird. Service was good.

I really like the sushi. But when you have Sushi in your name you should have the best in the world. I would say it is 3 our of 5 stars. Spicy tuna should be spicy. When you eat there the furniture is very uncomfortable. Not really built for children at all. I will say a huge bonus is that when you do have children the waiter brought over children’s chop sticks and it made her day. She was so happy and actually tried all of the food. The food is Good and price is fair
