Anyone know why this most excellent venue has closed?

I have been to Zodiacs a couple of times before and known it for its friendly staff, mediocre food, outdated décor, lack of style(or should I say Kitsch) and distasteful paintings but I came here again for the music I love — Leo Nocentelli and Bernie Worrell show… I know this place is not a music venue but expected at least a decent sound and lineup. Not being a particular fan of the opening acts, whose the only purpose is to keep people buying overpriced drinks, I decided to skip it — not a chance! I was forced to suffer through the painfully unbearable opening act that started 40 min late, lasted for an hour, and the music was played at dangerous decibels. To make it short: The Show started unreasonably late, at 11:30 and the volume level was set too high. Looks like Zodiacs’ technical staff has no freaking idea about the regulations for volume levels for any amplified music or voice in the music entertainment industry.

This is a pretty cool spot. I came here for the first time for a concert. Bought tickets online and got in no hassle. The venue set up is basic but the sound is great. so ok acoustics. and the service is pretty fast. cool locals for sure.

I know, I know. The younger ones think this is the cat’s meow but lemme tell you this is the quintessential dive bar. No style, no décor, no space planning, terrible acoustics and drinks are overpriced. Just put in some flashing lights, crank up the volume to «11», and you gotta a party going on. I’m sure the crowds will come but not me.

Pretty cool atmosphere and bar but if you are expecting to come here to grab a drink, dinner, and watch a show… forget it. We waited 30 minutes before a waitress came over with menus and we gave up on waiting for someone to come over to take our drink orders and went up to the bar for them. She came by and told us they were short staffed and disappeared to come back 20 minutes later. I was no longer hungry and had finished 2 drinks which I ordered on my own at the bar by then. I would only come back for drinks which is too bad because the menu items sound delicious

Hells yeah, I’m a fan! Run by a young couple that have poured their heart and soul into this place, it’s a music venue with solid food available any time they’re open, and they serve their own craft beer. Killer sound system and great live music. From jam bands to bluegrass to funk to cajun… they got it all, and they bring it in a much friendlier and cooler fashion than the place down the street! It’s a little cavernous and dark. A retractable ceiling would be so amazing, but I bet that would cost millions… That’s the only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars.

Holy shit… This place just rocked our world. Breakfast was fantastic. They let us create what we wanted for breakfast and fed us a curry that was one of the best I have ever had… And I am a total Thai snob. When I first saw the curry dish I was like… Very pretty but not enough sauce. Then I ate it and the sauce was so perfect it was plenty. Amazing flavors and free range chicken! My gf made her own breakfast plate and the bacon was perfect. Eggs were perfect. Truffle fries were craze amaze. Don’t be fooled… Yes this place is a fantastic bar and music venue… But that doesn’t mean it’s not an amazing restaurant as well. Christen is a great owner and will treat you right… Not just cause she wants your money… Cuz she’s good people. Ps… Bottomless mimosas…

Such a great place. Brought my whole family in… kids, parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Kids were able to play around on the dance floor while we had dinner then we were able to bring our kids to the babysitters and come back for drinks. Such a fun, versatile resturaunt/bar/brewpub!!!

This is the jewel of Petaluma when it comes to a nice sized venue with great live music, great sound, great vibe, and great food and drink. The food menu is nice, good variety of drinks, lots of art everywhere, and there is even a nice juice bar attached. It is in a prime location downtown and as I overheard someone in town say today, ‘this is the best venue this side of the Golden Gate Bridge.’ It has a fun and wonderful staff too.

I really want to like it but I cannot. I love live music, and thought they would set this place up. Nope, big bar and musicians must play in the back of the room. No stage, no lights, no real thought to the performers. Without a band, this place is like a dungeon. I would only return when I wanted to see a band there.

Is it 5 star dining… no but it’s good food and good drinks(full bar), some super cool artwork to check out. would definitely come back at night for the live music.

The food is great and the kitchen is open until 11 which is amazing! The crowd is interesting, which can be good. There have been times where I couldn’t walk through sections of the bar due to BO, which is not the bars fault but it happens and it’s gross. The main complaint I have is that it’s hard to keep track of what’s going on which days and sometimes they have a show going on which means a cover charge and I’ve been turned away at the door several times.

The owners must have done a really good job of rallying their friends to write good reviews because this place truly sucks! I guess if you’re going for cocktails only, it’s hard to screw that up, but as for the food, HORRIBLE all the way across the board. This is Sonoma County, a place where people take food very seriously, and to call this a barbecue joint is disgraceful. I’m a big fan of live music and I work in the industry. I was really excited to here about another new venue opening up in the area. After taking 15 months to open the place, really, 15 months, I couldn’t wait to check the place out. The first couple shows I went to see there sounded okay, but the fact that they jam the band in the back of the venue with no stage and zero stage lighting is a bit ridiculous. It’s a huge building, they could have come up with a much better floor plan. 15 months to open and you couldn’t figure out how to build a stage or put up lights. Don’t even get me started on the backstage green room area, it’s like a scene out of Spinal Tap. All I can figure is anyone that wrote a positive review on this place must have just gone in there and got so drunk that they couldn’t actually taste the food, and they probably thought there was a DJ because you can’t actually see the band. Seriously disappointed Zodiacs I was hoping for better things in Petaluma but I guess we’ve still got the Mystic and the dirty old Phoenix. You must either have really deep pockets or be down to your last pennies and you’ll be closed soon. Hopefully somebody can take over that knows what the hell they’re doing.

Jonesy and Kristen the owners are absolutely awesome! Best bar in town food is amazing drinks are amazing the bartenders know what they’re doing. If you have a bicycle they’ll park it inside for you how cool is that. Great atmosphere and local music, and the art… great.

Can’t’ comment on the music but happy hour visit on a quiet Tuesday afternoon resulted in tasty food. Service was a little cool(like we were not one of the regulars) but enjoyed the red curry miso soup(hot, great flavor and a tad spicy), chicken and waffle skewer was decent(chicken not real flavorful but two nice sauces on the side), and rib side with 4 meaty ribs was very good. $ 10 cocktail overpriced and not that good of mix but Petaluma Hills ESB on tap was cold and a nice accompaniment.

Our 30th high school reunion was looking like it wouldn’t happen until we contacted Kristen, one of the owners. Not only did she come to our rescue and make the place perfectly welcoming for us, she even decorated with balloons in our school colors and our grad year! This is such an awesome eclectic venue with master bartenders and a delicious menu to suit most diets, they also have a wide variety of live music every night! I wasn’t sure the vibe would suit our diverse bunch, but everybody seemed to really appreciate the ambiance. Plus, we kind of took over the sound system with awful ‘80s music, so we really did have the place to ourselves for most of the night! Although I’m sure saving floundering high school reunions is not part of their business model, they were remarkably adaptable and certainly worth a look when in Petaluma!

Our first visit may just be our last. Called in a food order tonight and spent $ 50.00 on Chicken & Waffles w/greens, Mac & Cheese, & Burger w/Garlic Fries. The portions were VERY small. I truly hope they are having an off night because all of it was inedible. The chicken had no flavor and was overcooked, the waffle was burnt, greasy, & very thin like the batter was made improperly. The«greens» yes were in fact green, but were not like any Southern greens I have had. They were cooked or rather drenched in wine and you couldn’t tast anything but the wine. The Mac & Cheese was dry and flavorless. The burger was just okay, but the«garlic» fries only had garlic on one fry. This might be the kind of food that you want when you are drunk and have killed your tastebuds from all the alcohol, but if you are wanting a good meal, venture elsewhere. I will say that the bar/venue looked pretty cool. I just wish I could say something nice about the food. Disappointing… I’m not sure how it has gotten such good reviews, must be all their friends writing in.

This place ROX! I’m a huge happy hour fan, and this bar has a great one. Not only are the drinks exceptional, the food was terrific. I got a dark and stormy(it was called something else, but you get the idea), and it had real ginger muddled in. Delish! Husband got an excellent margarita. Happy hour drinks are 2 bucks off btw. We had 4 sliders, which are $ 3 or 2 for $ 5. We tried the hamburger, buffalo chicken, and pulled pork slider. All were super good! So many times a hamburger slider is dry and overcooked, but this one was juicy and pink inside. Perfectly cooked! Pulled pork and chicken sliders both cooked to perfection and tasty. On the side were a few homemade pickles that I loved. Everyone that works here is friendly and does a super job. My only complaint is the location isn’t close enough to my house! I’d be here ALLTHETIME if it were, but I will be back, and hopefully soon!
